Camping and glamping in the peaceful Cambridgeshire Fens

The flat fields of Blooms Westerby Farm in the Cambridgeshire fens make for camping and glamping with far-reaching views, big skies and, often, spectacular sunsets. The site offers a collection of glamping options and a handful of pitches – so there’s a way to stay that will suit most types of Hipcamper. There’s a small fishing lake and archery on site, plus a riverside village within walking distance. There you’ll find a pub serving up good food and a place to hire canoes and kayaks so you can enjoy days messing about on the river.

The range of places to stay on site start with a simple grass pitch and stretch to a cabin that sleeps four with a kitchenette, log burner, TV and a hot tub outside. There are bell tents, a yurt and shepherd huts too. Each of the glamping options is slightly different but all have one thing in common; proper beds and bedding for a comfy night's sleep. They also share loos and showers just a short walk away in a purple cabin that’s hard to miss – you’ll see. There’s a campers’ kitchen, too, which is handy place for those in the campsite, the bell tents or the yurts.

Perhaps handier, still, are the breakfasts offered by your hosts, Christine and Richard. This friendly pair meet all guests and make sure you are not only happy but fed – if you want to be. They offer cooked breakfasts, waffles and breakfast rolls in the morning and scones at afternoon tea. For lunch or dinner, you can easily wander into the village to pick up supplies or sit down at one of the local pubs. With fishing and archery on site and kayaking just down the road, you won’t be short on things to do. But if you want to venture beyond this fenland village, the Cambridgeshire town of Wisbech and the Norfolk town of Downham Market are lovely places to explore that are not too far away.

Set on 7 acres Westerby Farm has a small fishing lake. Dotted around are shepherds huts and cabins and in the summer a couple of Bell Tents and a Yurt. Most of our accommodations are off grid and have outdoor cooking facilities. Toilets and showers are shared. There are wood fired hot tubs on a couple of the accommodations - these are exactly what they say, a tub that gets hot for you to sit in and listen to the wood crackling under the starry sky We are pet friendly so your dogs ( or cats ) are welcome to come with you Tents are welcome through the summer to pitch amongst our accommodation. On site we have an indoor and outdoor Archery Range and through the village runs a river where you can hire canoes and kayaks or bring along your own paddle board There are shops and a pub also within the village and we are also close to the historic town of Wisbech where Peckover House can be explored. There is soft play areas and bowling located at Guyhirn which is 10milea from site and in Stow bardolph is Church Farm where you can interact with animals and there are activities that you can do - the maze maze and play area is also 5 miles from site at skylark
Nearby attractions

Blooms Westerby Farm is on the edge of Outwell village in the Cambridgeshire Fens. You don’t have to go anywhere for the closest activities as there’s hobby fishing in the on-site pond (rod licence and a day ticket are required) and there’s an archery field too (extra cost). Off site, Marmot Canoe Hire (three miles) just outside Upwell will rent you a canoe or a kayak for a day on the river or you can take your own to launch into the quiet waterways. Nearby Wisbech (five miles)  is a nice place for a wander with lots of Georgian architecture, a riverside setting and plenty of shops, cafes and eateries. It’s also home to the National Trust’s Peckover House and Gardens. For kids, Church Farm Rare Breeds Centre in Stow Bardolph (nine miles) is a good day out, where you can meet the animals and, in summer, the Maize Maze at Skylark Garden Centre (11 miles) is another. The Norfolk town of Downham Market is nine miles away.

Food and drink

Breakfasts and afternoon teas are served from an on-site kitchen. There are two pubs called The Crown in Outwell – one that does food and one that’s just a watering hole. If you’re after a meal out, it’s wise to book a table in advance at The Crown Lodge Hotel as its restaurant is popular. There are also more options in the neighbouring village of Upwell. Between them the two villages have a range of general grocery shops and a butchers too. For supermarkets and a bigger range of shops and eateries, head to Wisbech (five miles).
