Our campsites are mindfully scattered across two acres of our larger woodland property. They are designed to offer a peaceful forest experience—spread out enough that you won't be bothered by neighbouring camping sounds, while still letting you catch a friendly glimpse of tent lights through the trees. 📍 Great Location on Vancouver Island Our spot is ideal for both adventurers and peace-seekers. Use us as your ideal base to explore local trails, visit the iconic ancient giants at Cathedral Grove, and take an inspiring tour of our Earthship before you head further west to explore Tofino or journey up north. Located about an hour north of Nanaimo, we’re a great stopover for guests travelling to or from the mainland. Mount Washington is just a 45-minute drive if skiing is on your itinerary, and we’re also well-positioned for day trips to Hornby, Denman, and Lasqueti Islands. 🥾 Hiking, Beaches, and Outdoor Fun Nearby Explore forest trails, a children’s playground, and a bike park right in our neighbourhood. We have one campsite available for tent campers and car campers in a beautiful forest setting. This site easily fits 2 tents. The tent site is tucked into the forest, surrounded by cedar and douglas fir trees with ample room for your tent(s). NOTE: this site is near the driveway. With a picnic table that seats 6 comfortably. There is an outhouse a 2-minute walk from the campsite. Go for a swim, kayaking, spend the day hiking or simply enjoy a beautiful sunset. We had a great time at Susan’s (Under the canopy) The camping spot is very private yet close to every attraction we were going to. We visited the Horne Lake caves. We would have liked to visit whit our hosts and spend sometime learning about earthship and all the permaculture design they have implemented; that is something we will plan for next visit. Beautiful little tiny cabin nestled far back away from any traffic on their unique property. The night sky was clear, air fresh, and it was a much needed peaceful break for us. Hosts were both very welcoming with their recommendations of local sightseeing and best places to eat in the area. Will definitely return. Thank you for having us.

What a lovely camping experience! We stayed at the under the canopy site, which was so quiet and private, even with guests staying at the other sites. The property itself was beautiful, and Susan and Tony were lovely hosts. I must recommend the earthship tour, so cool and a highlight of our trip to the island! They also had firewood and Susan baked delicious blueberry muffins.

Quiet oasis nestled under old trees. Nearby hiking trails are great, and seashore just 5 minutes from this private spot. It’s basic, and I had a big tarp above me so I did not need a fly cover on the tent, as well as picnic table. They have have an organic garden, and you need to bring your own water. No generators, so nice and quiet.

Under the Canopy tent site at the Doighouse Earthship campground was great! Stayed 3rd week in August for a couple of nights. Quiet, private and lots of trees Loved that the tarp was already set up: a time saver and gear and campers stay dry if it’s raining. Lots of walking trails nearby. Fascinating project the Doug’s are constructing, tho’ we did not do the tour. Walk to beach in about 20 min.

The Maple Cabin provided the easy way to car camp. The little site had a picnic table, nearby water supply, and outhouse. We were effectively camping, but we got to sleep in a comfortable bed and our clothes stayed dry and sheltered in the little cabin. There was a battery-powered lantern provided for night visits to the loo.

Beautiful property, a short drive from "town". Bright stars and quiet. Stayed in the Maple Cabin which was perfect. Short walk to the composting outhouse - remember to bring a head or neck lamp. We weren't there for long so didn't have time to do the tour. Maybe next time

The little cottage is the cutest. It manages to squish a functional kitchen, dining spot / desk, and living room into a stylish but small footprint. We cooked breakfast and dinner, re-froze ice for our cooler, and slept comfortably in the loft bed. Cellphone reception and wifi signals are appropriately weak (enough to remind you that a break from your phone is what you came for, but not enough to keep you from accomplishing the necessities). Susan is the greatest host. I could talk with her all day!

Hands down this is the most unique Hipcamp you will ever visit! Susan and Tony offer a variety of units. Our cabin was spotlessly clean and fully stocked with essentials and featured its own bathroom. We deeply appreciated their focus on sustainability and loved getting to learn about their earthship design. Between hiking and paddleboarding on the nearby lakes, the location has so much to offer. We 💯 recommend their Hipcamp and are already planning a longer return trip!

Down a long driveway off a quiet road, you’ll camp in silence amongst the trees, with only the sounds of birds to wake you up in the morning. The hosts were friendly and attentive, and their off-the-grid lifestyle is inspiring. Lighthouse Country Regional trail borders the property, but we didn’t have time to explore. There is a pub and a cafe a short walk away, but check their hours if they are in your plans. If you find the gate locked check the message in the app for instructions.
