This property is located on the border of VA and NC, 6 miles from Kibler Valley on the Dan River with recreational releases for Class 2 white water kayaking in the summer. We are close to Class 1 kayak and canoe river runs as well in Danbury NC along with hiking in the Blue Ridge mountains, Hanging Rock State Park and Pilot Mountain State Park. We are close to the legendary Mayberry NC , also known as Mt Airy NC and many wineries and breweries in NC and VA. We will send an email with links after you book. For now we are only taking one booking at a time so you can choose your spot and have the whole place to yourself and your group up to 16 adults. There are multiple tent sites as well as room for one or 2 small campers. You can set up your tent under the pavilion or on the band pavilion or string hammocks under the pavilion or from the trees. Well behaved dogs welcome, NO GUNS, NO FIREWORKS.Kid 12 and under are free. We purchased his property in 1981 when it was 70 acres and have been able to add to it until we are the proud owners of the 100 acre wood.  In 39 years it has grown more beautiful and now we want to share it with others who will appreciate a peaceful getaway. We have recently had necessary logging done, mostly by the road which will be startling for those who have been here before but the sheltered beauty at the lake remains. At this time we are limiting bookings to one group at a time and have increased the size of the group to 16. When the Birdhouse on the ridge starts renting you will be sharing the lake and the trails. You are welcome to camp anywhere around the lake or party deck. The 16' X 20' tent platform at the dam end of the lake is now surrounded by more level land for super large or multiple tents. You can drive to this site. There is a 14' X 9' tent platform at the upper edge of the lake. We will let you know if it is dry enough to drive too or if you will have to stay on the gravel and walk a short ways. Currently, the firewood you purchase when booking will be a milk crate full for $6.00 . More will be available on site if you need it cash or Venmo.   One beautiful campsite on the creek is about a 5 minute hike in and we recommend trekking poles as there is a narrow stretch that can be slippery.  The tent site is 12' X 7' . This site has a stone fire ring and we will walk in the firewood you have purchased. Our spring fed lake is about 2.5 acres and is wonderful for a dip on hot days. We have bass, crappie, catfish and grass carp for catch and release.  We have a paddle boat and numerous kayaks available for the summer season.  There are no bright lights to hamper the night sky stargazing and the stars above the lake can be glorious.  We have numerous trails on the property that we are in the process of mapping and marking.  The spacious outhouse was built in the spring of 2020 , has solar lighting as well as motion detector light inside. There is a 3 season handwashing station. In winter, please bring hand sanitizer.  We have a filter on the warm weather sink for delicious drinking water.  The kitchen consists of a refrigerator, 2 burner stove, BBQ grill, seasonal cold water sink with water filter and a beautiful granite counter.  You will have to provide plates, pans, utensils etc. and you will need to heat the water for dishwashing at this time. (We have some pans for that.)  There are multiple picnic tables and chairs. We want to remind campers that there are bears and raccoons here though we have not had any problems. Please keep food and trash secured. This a beautiful, wild, peaceful place with limited cell phone service. We live on the property are are available to answer questions and for any emergency. Because it is wild, please keep your eyes open for snakes and protect yourself from ticks, mosquitoes and poison ivy.  We are 6 miles from Kibler Valley on the Dan River with recreational releases for Class 2 white water kayaking in the summer. We are close to Class 1 kayak and canoe river runs as well in Danbury NC along with hiking in the Blue Ridge mountains and Hanging Rock State Park.  We are not far from the Rock Castle Gorge trail and Buffalo Mountain trail. We are close to the legendary Mayberry NC , also known as Mt Airy NC and many wineries and breweries in NC and VA. The world famous Primland Resort is 15 miles away.

Peaceful Place 💜
This place is amazing! So peaceful and quiet. Great for the fall but also for summer bc the water is great for swimming, standup paddleboarding kayaking and soaking up the sun. Patty and Steve are easy to work. I’ll def be back.😊

Wild Toad Lake
Hidden treasure.
Wild Toad Lake was beyond what we were expecting. It was clear when we pulled into the camp that we had arrived as far as campsites are concerned. A pavilion with everything you would need to utilize for a large group camping trip or just yourself. There is a deck over the bank of the lake, water slide, a pretty posh composting outhouse, and full bank access around the whole lake for fishing. The host definitely think about how to make sure their guest have a excellent experience. The on property trail system was awesome for getting the dogs and yourself a small bit of exercise. I can honestly say I’ve not been that relaxed at a campsite in years. We loved every second we were there.
