80 acres of natural bushland with 300 meters of Mary River frontage. This is a great place for a base camp to explore the region. Campsites are nestled amongst trees.
There's nothing here but peace and quiet, spacious sites. The banks of the river are quite high and there is limited access into the water.
There are 2 boat ramps about 7 or 8 klms from the property.
Arrive between midday and 2pm if possible so you can set up your camp. Don't forget to bring your insect repellent as you are in the bush and beside the river.
We have also just built a shelter shed/camp kitchen have 1000 litre water pods.
No rubbish bins at the camp so bring everything you need & remove everything you bring.
- Dogs welcome. Due to past incidents, friendly, non -aggressive dogs only please.

Our property is located on River Heads Road which takes you to the barge to the largest sand island in the world, K’Gari Fraser Island.
Paperbark Camp and Farm Stay is a perfect pit stop on your way to and from the Island or for a getaway from city life. The campground is located close to the road so you will hear passing cars traveling to and from River Heads.
We have a large communal campfire ring set up, sticks from the paddock can be collected as kindling and firewood. Additional fire wood can be purchased and portable fire pits can also be requested for your own private fire at your site.
Paperbark Camp and Farm Stay offers our guests the opportunity to pat and feed our animals during the farm walk and take a stroll thru our food forest and gardens upon request. You are also welcome to explore the camp area with our dam and lovely bush surrounds where you will find hidden treasures amongst the trees and camp ground.
On our little farm, we have lots of quirky chickens (who lay the most delicious eggs), our beautiful horses, pet dogs, sheep, alpacas, pigs and miniature goats! Purchase local and fresh produce from 'The Hut' which is our located in the centre of our camp ground.
You are only a very short drive from shops, beaches and attractions.
The following shops are only 5kms away-Foodworks, Chemist Warehouse, Dentist ,Dr Surgery, Airport, BP Petrol Station, Bottle-Shop, Hairdressers. T
Take a very short walk to the Pir'ri Reserve Walking Track where you can do a spot of bird watching or simply enjoy a stroll on the rustic bush tracks.
Beautiful calm swimming beaches are only a 9km drive away. You may also like to visit our huge pier at Urangan, or take a walk along the bike path which stretches 17kms along the waterfront. You will also find a shopping centre with Woolworths in this area and other specialty shops (post office and retail). Plenty of takeaway available- KFC, McDonalds, Golden Chicken, River Heads Cafe for breakfast and lunch daily and pizza three nights a week and restaurants in the vicinity.
River Heads where K’Gari Fraser Island barge leaves from is 7.5km from our camp and you are welcome to leave your vehicles parked up for a small fee.
Families are very welcome however children must be fully supervised at all times as we do have a dam on the property.

Overview
About
Lush mangroves and wallum heathlands circle the lakes and waterways of Poona National Park. It’s an idyllic escape for nature lovers, where you can enjoy woodland walks, admire wildflowers, and spot rare birds and frogs around the lakes. Explore the rugged trails in a 4WD, try your luck fishing along Kalah Creek, or set sail on a boat cruise from the Maaroom boat ramp. Camping isn’t permitted in the national park, but campers can find plenty of options along the Fraser Coast.
When to go
The wallum heathlands of Poona National Park are most beautiful in early spring (September and October) when colorful wildflowers cloak the landscapes. Summer temperatures can reach 30°C, so prepare for hot and humid weather, but there’s still plenty of shade to be found. Showers are possible at this time too, and trails can be muddy after rainfall, so be prepared.
Know before you go
- Poona National Park is located along the Fraser Coast, 125 kilometres south of Bundaberg, or a 1-hour 45-minute drive.
- Access to the park is by 4WD, boat, or on foot.
- There are no facilities in the park, so bring everything you need with you. The closest town is Maryborough, a 15-minute drive, where you can pick up groceries or purchase fishing and camping supplies.
