Urban Regenerative Gardens

2 sites ¡ RVs, Tents2 acres ¡ Sherbrooke, QC
This rare urban site acknowledges our Abenaki heritage, who camped and lived along these shores for centuries. Our beautiful urban location near highway 410 and Bishop's University, directly on St. Francis river, makes it an exceptional starting point for cyclists who want to enjoy the Route Verte path; fish, canoe, kayak or tube the river or simply explore all Sherbrooke has to offer.  Our birdlife is amazing and is a recognized birding location by provincial authorities, especially for swallows and chimney swifts. A fire pit will be made available, in respect of all fire bans, with firewood available for purchase. In 1910, Agriculture Canada set up a research centre that operated until the 1950's. The property was sold to a family that emigrated to Canada from Europe, to set begin a new life post WW2. In 2015, I purchased the property to return it to its roots - regenerative farming, training, hospitality, poverty relief and healthy living. Be our guest at The Farmhouse, a vibrant small-scale farm with a heart for the earth and its people. (https://www.thefarmhouse.store) Seasonal, fresh farm produce will be available for purchase as well as guided garden tours.   Located within 5 minute walking distance to Lennoxville (Bishop's University).  It's perfect for campers who like to experience "urban" camping. Some road noise. If you are concerned about the weather, the site provides the use of a 8 sleeper tent trailer for your convenience. During the day, you are welcome to relax in it too. Portable water will be provided, but bring your own drinks if possible. As a bonus treat, you are welcome to sleep in a very HIP camper, a 1980 retro dodge camper van. Bilingual service. Prestation bilingue.

The best camping near Mont-Orford National Park guide

Overview

About

Camping at Mont-Orford National Park is a great choice for those wanting a home base to set out from on hiking or cycling day trips. The park has trails that range from beginner to expert and wind through the mountains, each giving campers the chance to bask in the picturesque setting of Quebec’s Eastern Townships. Beach fun, kayaking, and rock climbing are popular in summer, while wintertime brings snow to the famous Mont-Orford Ski Resort.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for hikers: It’s a 4-kilometre hike in the mountains to the tent platforms at Le Vallionier campground.
  • Best for families: Kids and parents love the playground, beach access, and amenities in the Lac-Stukely sector.
  • Best for tree-huggers: Set among the trees, the serviced and semi-serviced sites of the Lac-Fraser sector offer serious serenity.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Mont-Orford campsites can be reserved online via the SĂŠpaq website. Reservations open in mid-November for summer of the following year.
  2. Create your online account in advance to make your reservation more quickly.
  3. A two-night minimum applies for advance reservations. One-night stays can only be booked up to 72 hours before your arrival.

When to go

The three main Mont-Orford campgrounds are open from mid-May until mid-October. The weather in southern Quebec is warmest in July and August, which is also when the park is busiest. The spring and fall shoulder seasons are also excellent times to visit, though weather will be harder to predict. Year-round camping is possible in the park’s huts and EXP cabins.

Know before you go

  • Although called a national park, Mont-Orford is administered by SĂŠpaq, a Quebec provincial body. As such, Parks Canada passes aren’t accepted. Park entrance fees apply and can be purchased on a daily or annual basis. The daily admission can only be purchased up to 30 days in advance.
  • The Lac-Stukely sector campground has dedicated first-come, first-served sites in the Le MĂŠlèze loop for bike-in campers. Just register when you arrive.
  • Accessible toilets are available at the Mont-Orford visitors’ centres and at the Lac-Stukely and Lac-Fraser campgrounds, which also feature wheelchair-accessible showers.
