Our camp sits on the banks of the Cloquet River, or Gaa-biitootigweyaag-ziibi in Ojibwe. It is the main tributary of the St. Louis River which flows into Lake Superior. Part of our 13 acre property is a forest restoration project currently in process, and the rest is untouched wild lands giving way to 100+ undeveloped state-owned acres to the North. We are committed to the restoration and preservation of the wild and are grateful and excited to share this singular and deeply grounding experience. Learn more about this land: Our yurt sits on the edge of a wild woods overlooking a meadow that is an active forest restoration project currently in process. From your door, access trails that wind through the woods and lead to the banks of the Cloquet River and to 100+ undeveloped public acres to the North.  There is no electricity or running water in the yurt for a real rustic experience. Camp lanterns and solar lights are provided as is refillable fresh water and a propane camp stove/oven. The yurt is heated solely by a wood stove and there is plenty of firewood a short distance away as is a sled to use for hauling. A detached outhouse is a short walk from the yurt and is for your use alone. The yurt contains a queen bed with a single cot available on request. This is an opportunity to get back to basics, really unplug, connect with nature and unwind. As a safety to keep your phone charged, a remote charger is available on request.  Two pairs of snowshoes are included for long quiet walks through the woods and along the river where winter wildlife sightings are frequent! Our yurt sits on the edge of a wild woods overlooking a meadow that is an active forest restoration project currently in process. Yurt is fabulous!
The yurt was magical. Sue was very kind and welcoming when we arrived, and then the experience was super private and lovely. The yurt has everything you need for a great get a way. Even in the snow and cold, we stayed cozy with the wood stove. I would absolutely recommend booking this yurt, and I’m hopeful I can make this a yearly excursion going forward.

Good stay, nice privacy, very clean
Cool yurt. It was about 25 degrees overnight. The stove is well-tuned and the yurt insulates well, so it was quite easy to keep warm overnight. There was one necessary 4am refuelling of the stove each night. Closing the chimney damper almost completely is helpful, along with closing the air intakes almost completely. The outhouse is a semi-distant walk, back towards the parking area. But it's a pleasant walk. I had Verizon LTE with 4 or 5 bars over the weekend, which is either good or bad ... I was fine being semi-connected. The xc ski trails at Pine Valley in Cloquet are free, well-maintained, and beautiful - Highly recommend.

My boyfriend and I absolutely loved our stay. We were secluded on Sue’s vast property and felt like we were in our own little world. I would totally recommend coming in the winter too. The wood fire stove actually worked too well, we had to turn it off a couple of times. You don’t have to worry about freezing. Snow shoes are provided and there’s a beautiful, quiet snowy trail that loops around past the river. Thanks Sue!

The yurt was well maintained with a host that was easy to contact if I had any questions. The retro snowshoes were so fun to use on the trail. The trail was hard to find, but there had also been a few feet of snow recently. The yurt is pretty close to the house so it is not as private as I like, but they have it positioned so it feels like it's own getaway. The outhouse was the nicest I have used, everything was clean and ready to go! Definitely recommend it!

Cozy and well-stocked yurt
The yurt was very cozy and we enjoyed sleeping with a view of the night sky in the ceiling window (which is covered with thick plastic since that wasn’t clear in the photos!) The river on her land is very clean, shallow and still—which was great for our young daughter to swim in. The location is close to Duluth and the nearest grocery store is about 15 minutes away. The yurt is secluded at the back of the property with a view of pine trees all around. Our host Sue was awesome and we appreciated her trusting us with her kayaks and canoes. We can’t wait to come back!
