Nearly wild camping with acres of space hired on an exclusive basis

It’s hardy campers only at Wild Camping in the Cotswolds. There’s no clubhouse, no hardstanding and no electric hook-up here... but that’s not particularly unusual for the type of sites we recommend. What is unusual is that there’s no shower or loo either. This is truly back-to-basics hipcamping. In fact, this isn't really a campsite per se, but a place to pitch your tent and enjoy the outdoors. And it will only be your tent as just one booking is accepted at a time on this working Cotswolds’ farm.

If you’re looking for a sociable site where your kids can make friends with the little ones from the neighbouring tent, move on quickly. But if you’re looking for a place you can get away from it all, somewhere to enjoy the outdoors with just the people you’ve come with, this could be it. You’ll be welcomed to the site, which is just outside the Cotswolds village of Aldsworth, by Celia at the farmhouse. Tell her what you’re after and, whether that’s stupendous views of rolling hills, somewhere that’s bathed in sun all day or somewhere sheltered from the wind – she’ll point you in the right direction. You have almost free rein of the fields that make up this 110-acre farm. All that’s out of bounds is where the sheep and cows are currently grazing.

There are no facilities to speak of so you need to come prepared. If you’re in a campervan or motorhome with everything you need on board that’ll be little bother, but if you’re camping in a tent you'll need to bring your own portable camping toilet and water too (though if you ask nicely you might be able to fill containers in the farmyard). The vibe is wild camping so it goes without saying that self-sufficiency is key and you need to leave no trace of your stay. It also means you are free to enjoy the beautiful scenery and the peace and quiet of the Cotswolds in the best way: wild and free.

We are situated in the heart of the Cotswolds and are surrounded by excellent gastropubs, beautiful villages, great sightseeing and shopping opportunities, and wonderful walking / cycling. We only take one booking at a time so you will have sole occupation of a huge field; you can park on top of the hill to enjoy far-reaching rural views; or hunker down in the valley for total privacy. We operate a "Leave No Trace" policy; so we welcome tents provided that campers make provision to bury or remove human waste, and all trash. Bore water is available free on request, and firewood is available for purchase for your barbecue.  We allow raised fire pits and barbecues only to reduce the fire risk and avoid degrading the pasture. Campers are banned from the farmyard and farm buildings, and unsupervised contact with livestock for their own protection.

Cotswold Wild Camping
Highly recommend!!
Absolutely loved staying here. I did a solo camp in the truck and felt very safe. You get the whole field to yourself. A great place to watch wildlife and on a clear night seeing the Sky full of stars. The owner is lovely too and checked in to see if I was ok. I also got given a little tour. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning in the future!!

Cotswold Wild Camping
I had a really peaceful 3 nights here. There’s a bridleway off of the field which is great. The dogs loved it. I would certainly visit again.

Cotswold Wild Camping
Very peaceful
We really enjoyed camping overnight with the beautiful views and peaceful surroundings. Our elderly dog loved it too, the field was secure so he was free to roam around nearby. The directions were clear and Celia was helpful and friendly. Spotted one or two people walking in the next field but no one else around. Will definitely be staying again.

Camping with Cat 🏕️
Wonderful secluded spot at the bottom of a valley. So quiet, we even managed to take our cat for a peaceful get away! Hosts were lovely and communication was great. 10/10 would recommend. ✅

From the host
This is a working farm with sheep and cattle. All the land is permanent pasture. Typical upland Cotswold scenery with big skies and far-reaching views. There are more sheltered spots for less favourable weather. Bore water is available free on request, and firewood is available to purchase for your barbecue. We allow only raised barbecues and fire pits to avoid degrading the pasture. Campers are banned from the farmyard and farm buildings, and unsupervised contact with livestock for their own protection.
Nearby attractions

The picturesque town of Burford, with its setting on the river Windrush, is just five miles from the farm and there are plenty of other pretty Cotswolds towns and villages to visit in the surrounding countryside. There are lovely walks in the area and you can head straight out from site or join better-known routes like the Monarch Way and the Diamond Way nearby to be guided through some of the Cotswold’s most historic and beautiful spots. The National Trust’s Lodge Park and Sherbourne Park Estate are just over two miles away, and Chedworth Roman Villa is not much further. For families with kids, Cotswold’s Farm Park is about 15 miles from here.

Food and drink

The closest pub, The Sherbourne Arms, is about half a mile from the farm gate but there are plenty of great gastropubs to choose from. Good options nearby include The Wheatsheaf Inn at North Leach (01451 539889), The Village Pub at Barnsley (01285 740421) and The New Inn at Coln St Aldwyns (01285 750 651), all within eight miles of site. If you want to stick with the spirit of wild camping and stock up on food to cook yourself (barbecues and fire pits are allowed as long as they are off ground), head for Burford, five miles away.
