Its earth-filled dam was constructed in 1923 by the Walker River Irrigation District, along the East Walker River. The campground and marina was built I-don't-know-how-long ago, but it sure is nice! The conditions are much like Joshua Tree National Park or Alabama Hills camping area. During your visit, you will notice many flying insects that resemble mosquitos. These Chironomid are harmless and do not bite. On the contrary, the mosquito presence is very minimal. Swimming in the lake is possible usually between April to July.

Much of the ranch is open wilderness for you to explore, and it's not uncommon to see deer, frogs, turtles, quail, turkeys, or other countless species of birds. Diamond Gulch Camp is the perfect place to relax if you’re a photographer, artist, family or a group of friends looking for a place to camp near Yosemite. A small portion of the property was used as a gold mine years ago, and you may find remnants of old home sites if you go exploring. Including but not limited to; hiking, water and snow skiing, fishing, boating, star gazing and sooo much more. The road into the property, although being maintained by us and the community, can be a challenge for vehicles very low to the ground. There is water, and trash and a composting outhouse on site. My husband and I stay here on site as much as the weather permits, to serve out heaping amounts of privacy, or hospitality. It's up to you. Please explore everywhere. Be sure to check out all 3 waterfalls, and Shaver Lake. Don't stay gone too long, though, as just about every night, there is an unforgettable sunset and sounds and smells of the Sierra Nevada. The experience is supernatural. There is powerful medicine here. It's undeniable. The weather is very mild most of the year, where a sweat shirt is perfect most nights and not too hot in the day We have kayaks available for use free of charge. Musick Creek Falls offers an affordable option, whereas campgrounds and cabins in the area are often booked up and very expensive. Most cell phones have good reception throughout the property. We also have spare tents and camping gear, blankets etc. if you forget something. Please be courteous to our neighbors, as the Golden rule is the law of the land. We appreciate your support more than you know, and we thrilled to share this amazing place with our Hipcamp community. About

Next to Half Dome, El Capitan is one of the most quintessential landmarks in the beautiful Yosemite National Park. It is located on the north side of Yosemite Valley, and is one of the first magnificant granite slabs visitors see upon driving into the valley. At just under 3,000 feet tall, "El Cap" is one of the most challenging and globally recognized rock climbing routes in the world. While Alex Hannold may have popularized camping while suspended halfway up El Cap, those of us who are not professional rock climbers can find dozens Hipcamps nearby with zero climbing experience required.

When to go

The best time to visit El Capitan is during spring and fall when the weather is mild and the natural beauty is at its peak. Summer brings larger crowds and warmer temperatures, while winter can present challenging conditions with snow and limited accessibility.

Know before you go

Stay on designated trails to protect the meadow and its delicate ecosystem.
El Capitan is accessible year-round, but check for seasonal road closures.
The path into El Capitan Meadow is dirt, with limited parking pullouts for scenic views.
