The Department of Fish and Game have a fish ladder at Sunset Falls just upstream and BNSF railroad owns the large vacant tract down stream.A rather peaceful setting, including the rushing sound of the river and the occasional whistle of a train. Welcome to the Derby Canyon Retreat! Located just 14 miles from Leavenworth, this 6 acre private paradise is entrenched in nature. Site 1 is convenient, easy to access and great for tents and small trailers, and close to the community outhouse and wellhouse. Site 2 is the most private, ideal for larger groups and tucked among the trees; ideal for many tents or camper and located on grassy flat land. Site 3 (not currently available, working on the site and amenities as of 4.21.24) includes use of our on-site camper with some extra space for additional tents and access to community outhouse and wellhouse. This retreat is dedicated to sustainable living and development. Our well is powered by solar panels and batteries, the outhouse is a biogas system which has a hand pump for flush, and utilizes human waste to produce methane and fertilizer. The methane is then plumbed to a single burner in our kitchenette and can be used for cooking or boiling water when enough methane is present! Booking this hipcamp is supporting sustainable living and development! :D If you like nature, there are many features for you. From hiking to biking, off road access, hunting, or wildlife viewing, Derby Canyon offers it all. Enjoy a day in Leavenworth, the Wenatchee River, mountain bike trail, or a hike in the mountains. Though most of the area does not receive cell phone service (I have Verizon) we do get service at this site. Located about 5 miles off the county road, cell service will fall off for the first 4 miles, however most people will have service at the site itself. Please PRINT or DOWNLOAD the directions I will email you for OFFLINE use! For now we are offering this site as a private escape campsite to enjoy the depths of nature in a serene setting. Wood fires are not allowed but we do have a propane firepit available for use free of charge - bring your own propane!
