Moose, bear, lynx, coyote, fox, rabbit, squirrel, beaver, otter, muskrat, owls, eagles, grouse all frequent the area. HUGE summer salmon runs starts with King Salmon in May-June, Then Reds, Pinks & Chum most of the summer and Silvers from July-September. Fishing is not allowed at the camp (No fishing first 1.5mile upstream, per Alaska Fishing regulations) however dip netting is opened by emergency order for residents approx one week a year in mid-late July. Dipnetting is also not allowed from property, per law, but is within short float/ drive/ walking distance. Close in driving distance from Point Mackenzie Recreation district, Big Lake Recreation District, Knik Lake District, and 20 mins from Downtown Wasilla, 1 hour from Anchorage.

Sleepy Bear cabin was built as a retreat for my father here in Alaska. Our 1st year listed on Hipcamp our cabin came in second in best places to stay in Alaska with Hipcamp. The last 2 years we were still mentioned in the top 10 with some pretty stiff competition. Eagle River South Fork trail with stunning views of Eagle and Symphony lakes is a short bike ride away. Breathtaking Barbara Falls is in our valley 10mins away. You hike up to the falls and feels its breath. Our Mountain views at 2000' elevation in the alpine forest with the 7000' snow covered peaks at the back of the valley will awe you. Morning coffee on your private deck alone is worth the trip. We know you will love our little mountain get away. I came to Alaska in the 90's with the Coast Guard. It was always my dream to come back. Alaska has a hold on you no other place possesses. Since our move back almost 6 years ago, our family has blossomed. We love living here and want to share our love of Alaska with others.

Firewood is usually on-site and available. Check for the local matsu burn status before having a fire. Mosquito spray is recommended depending on the season. Three Bears (similar to Costco) is right down the road. Easy access year-round. Please pack out what you pack in. Have a great stay!

The cabin is 12' x 20' with a full kitchen, bathroom and loft sleeping with a queen bed and two-fold out sleeping chairs downstairs. Water is limited to a 200-gallon holding tank. Cabin includes Wi-Fi and Roku TV and heat. Winter months offer ice fishing and snowmobiling, and summer months offer boating, fishing and swimming. Hiking trails and more lakes nearby. Plenty of wildlife watching too! There is plenty of room for RV parking and/or camping and room for a campfire - invite your friends to camp!
