Share your space with hares, deer, foxes, owls, songbirds, field voles, bees and butterflies. The views from the fields are a well kept local secret - from your tent or van look out over Hartland, Lundy island, Saunton, Croyde, Exmoor and Dartmoor, even Pembrokeshire on a clear day! FACILITIES: In keeping with our low impact approach, the fields are just fields, but with the addition of some picnic benches! A flushing toilet, drinking water, hot shower, charging and WiFi are found by the farmhouse. BBQs and fires permitted off the ground and we have fire pits for loan and logs for sale. Please pack out all rubbish and leave NO trace. Dogs welcome under close control - please avoid meadow centres in summer to protect the nesting skylarks and ensure they do NOT chase the wildlife. ACCESS: Easily accessible by 4WD, and 2WD in summer/when dry. Be aware it's a grassy uphill track, if your vehicle is not great off-road... (but everyone so far has been fine!) The views are worth the walk though! Campervans have backup options lower down near the house. THE SITE: Nature spot, relax and stargaze across our 4 fields. We recently planted 800 trees for a new woodland, created a wildlife pond, and are establishing a traditional cider orchard. Rose looks after our vegetable garden and usually has some native breed piglets. Our apiary is managed by Jon who will happily explain about bees... and sell you a jar of honey for breakfast. Note - the area is agricultural with very occasional farm noise and odour. We are pleased to be a South West Coast Path Waymaker, and welcome walkers. We also welcome anyone enjoying the Atlantic Highway or South West 660. We like classics and have spanners! Flexible arrival/departure. A holiday taking in two countries – a tad ambitious? Not in the slightest. Take off to Offa’s Dyke Retreat and such escapades are very easy indeed, as you’re almost on the border of England and Wales, with plenty of gorgeous scenery and outdoorsy antics on both sides of the divide. Site is set in 3 acres with new 2023 communal space, including games room sofa snug, dinning area, new wet rooms and kitchen to be complete December 2023. You can start gazing at that scenery without even leaving this friendly glamping site in the little village of Longtown, for the outlook here is one of the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons National Park. Ready for a closer look? Get those boots on and set off for a wander. The Offa’s Dyke path passes nearby on its way from Pandy to Hay-on-Wye, and there are lots of little local paths to explore too. A stroll of a much less strenuous variety (barely a 7 minute, in fact) takes you to the local pub for home-cooked meals, local ales. If you can manage a little further (a 6 minutes walk), you can get to a fab village shop stacked with fresh and frozen food, local tipples and homemade cakes. Stock up there and trot back to the site for a picnic or barbecue (firepit provided, with firewood available to buy on site), or use the well-equipped communal kitchen to prep your eats. 5 ensuite railway carriages with kitchenette, 2 pods and 3 further carriages use shared facilities on site include a toilet block with a couple of showers; no need to bring your own towels, as you’ll be provided with these when you get here, along with bedding for your cosy sleeping quarters.

Near Carmarthen, South Wales. A compact and accessible wood with a balance of commercial crops, mature broadleaves, and recent planting, it is set in a sheltered location overlooking the Towy Valley with stunning views. Ffinnant Wood is a mixed woodland, partly commercial and partly broadleaf, with a steep-sided broadleaved valley, Cym yr Abbey, a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The wood designations include restored ancient woodland and plantations on ancient woodlands. The SSSI designation arises as this is one of few localities in South Wales that has yielded well-preserved trilobite fossil specimens. The wood comprises a stand of mature mixed Sitka spruce and Douglas fir. These trees have been managed to put on height and volume. The area of recent (2021) coniferous clear felling and some nearby thinning yielded approximately 1,800m3, approximately 635 tonnes/ hectare, showing that this is a productive site. Following harvesting, these areas were replanted with 50/50 Sitka spruce/Douglas fir and a Sm edge of broadleaves adjacent to the B4300. It has been weeded and is growing well. A small area (c. 0.4 hectares, see map) remains to be replanted with 960 trees (Sitka spruce, 90%, oak, 5%, mixed broadleaves, 5%). RIGHTS OF WAY There are no footpaths on the property. This gives the wood an extra element of privacy. DIRECTIONS Drive east on the B4300 from Carmarthen. After 4 miles, you will pass the turn-off for the B4310. Keep on the B4300; after 800m, Ffinnant Wood is on your right-hand side, rising up the slope. There are two points of vehicular access to the wood from the B4300. For viewing, as the B4300 straightens, pull over to the right and park adjacent to the metal double gates, from there you can enter the woodland on foot. You can also enter the site through the smaller wooden gate c.l00m west.

A holiday taking in two countries – a tad ambitious? Not in the slightest. Take off to Offa’s Dyke Retreat and such escapades are very easy indeed, as you’re almost on the border of England and Wales, with plenty of gorgeous scenery and outdoorsy antics on both sides of the divide. Site is set in 3 acres with new 2023 communal space, including games room sofa snug, dinning area, new wet rooms and kitchen to be complete December 2023. You can start gazing at that scenery without even leaving this friendly glamping site in the little village of Longtown, for the outlook here is one of the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons National Park. Ready for a closer look? Get those boots on and set off for a wander. The Offa’s Dyke path passes nearby on its way from Pandy to Hay-on-Wye, and there are lots of little local paths to explore too. A stroll of a much less strenuous variety (barely a 7 minute, in fact) takes you to the local pub for home-cooked meals, local ales. If you can manage a little further (a 6 minutes walk), you can get to a fab village shop stacked with fresh and frozen food, local tipples and homemade cakes. Stock up there and trot back to the site for a picnic or barbecue (firepit provided, with firewood available to buy on site), or use the well-equipped communal kitchen to prep your eats. 5 ensuite railway carriages with kitchenette, 2 pods and 3 further carriages use shared facilities on site include a toilet block with a couple of showers; no need to bring your own towels, as you’ll be provided with these when you get here, along with bedding for your cosy sleeping quarters.

Near Carmarthen, South Wales. A compact and accessible wood with a balance of commercial crops, mature broadleaves, and recent planting, it is set in a sheltered location overlooking the Towy Valley with stunning views. Ffinnant Wood is a mixed woodland, partly commercial and partly broadleaf, with a steep-sided broadleaved valley, Cym yr Abbey, a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The wood designations include restored ancient woodland and plantations on ancient woodlands. The SSSI designation arises as this is one of few localities in South Wales that has yielded well-preserved trilobite fossil specimens. The wood comprises a stand of mature mixed Sitka spruce and Douglas fir. These trees have been managed to put on height and volume. The area of recent (2021) coniferous clear felling and some nearby thinning yielded approximately 1,800m3, approximately 635 tonnes/ hectare, showing that this is a productive site. Following harvesting, these areas were replanted with 50/50 Sitka spruce/Douglas fir and a Sm edge of broadleaves adjacent to the B4300. It has been weeded and is growing well. A small area (c. 0.4 hectares, see map) remains to be replanted with 960 trees (Sitka spruce, 90%, oak, 5%, mixed broadleaves, 5%). RIGHTS OF WAY There are no footpaths on the property. This gives the wood an extra element of privacy. DIRECTIONS Drive east on the B4300 from Carmarthen. After 4 miles, you will pass the turn-off for the B4310. Keep on the B4300; after 800m, Ffinnant Wood is on your right-hand side, rising up the slope. There are two points of vehicular access to the wood from the B4300. For viewing, as the B4300 straightens, pull over to the right and park adjacent to the metal double gates, from there you can enter the woodland on foot. You can also enter the site through the smaller wooden gate c.l00m west.

We had a wonderful time as always! We’ve been here quite a few times now, and it never disappoints. It’s such a beautiful, peaceful place to relax and unwind. A lovely surprise this time was watching the cows wander past — such a charming touch to an already perfect stay. We really can’t recommend this place enough; it’s definitely one of our favourite spots to camp!

Nobody around us but the stars and two shetland ponies, views over the reservoir on the hill were amazing, but be careful pitching there as the grass is only centremeters deep and pegs hit rocks everywhere, our tent blew away and caused a scene - the land itself though is 10/10

Amazing place to stop. Beautiful scenery with fantastic walks to the viaduct and reservoir nearby. Lovely to be able to have a fire. We went for a great meal at Dartmoor Inn (10 min drive) Got our camper down ok. It could get a bit tricky if the lane gets wet and slippery.

Beautiful Spot, we stayed for 2 nights. We had great communication with Phil and a bag of wood delivered to camp. Shared the camp with 2 ponies but no one else. Was nice to see the horse trail pass camp. Overall top spot if you are ok with no facilities. We would definitely stay again.

Weekend Trip to Sleep beneath the Stars!
Great site, facilities and location enjoyed by myself and friends. The ideal place if you want a private field to yourselves - and the dog loved it! Jill was very helpful and her communication was great. She kindly let us meet the donkeys, ducks and doves which we all appreciated. We had plenty of campfires, enjoyed a BBQ and even got to see a beautiful sunset on top of the hill on our last night there. Overall a lovely weekend and I highly recommend visiting.

Our second time staying at Phil’s beautiful lakeside gem. Seclusion, scenery, wildlife, stars and zero stress….. those are the words that sum up this hidden wonder. Literally yards from the moors with the ponies and rugged landscape, it’s the perfect place from which to explore. Bring EVERYTHING you need, there are no facilities at all and remember to leave no trace! Thanks Phil for another amazing stay. We’ll definitely be back again

2 nights at Cuddfan - The Hiding Place
Thanks Mark for the lovely stay! The area is secluded and picturesque, which really gave us the feeling of living a nomadic life with just the basic amenities. A few tips for future visitors: Bring a hanging light or headlamp, as it gets very dark and there’s no lighting provided. There’s a gas stove and cooking area, but you’ll need to bring your own utensils. Pack warm duvets and thick jackets if you’re visiting in autumn, as nights can get very cold. 🚗 Important: Do not drive your car down to the tent. Park just after entering the gate and walk down instead. I missed the host’s message about this, got stuck trying to drive back up, and had to be rescued by a farmer with his tractor (thankfully the host responded quickly and was super helpful!). Despite that little adventure, I absolutely loved the stay and would highly recommend it if you’re looking for a unique experience without the hassle of putting up a tent yourself.
