We had a camper van and this was a super nice spot to park it. Close to some really neat secluded beaches. Absolutely fabulous hosts with lots of local knowledge.

The host was very helpful, friendly, and full of insightful information. The nearby beach was one of the best I’ve been in, secluded and beautiful! We drove our jeep almost to the beach we’re most walked the approximately 2.5 miles The place was quiet except for the ocasional bark from the neigbor dog.

Super fun spot! Sally Ann is a great host who met us when we arrived. Place was safe and great view of stars at night. Secluded beach was exactly that- we were the only ones on it all day!

Host made sure we got there and let us know where shower/ bathroom is located. We only needed 1 night and it was perfect for us. Night sky was amazing.

This is a really neat property! Camping is pretty basic (flat gravel, a few trees but mostly exposed). There is a shared kitchen space if you want to use it. Sally was a friendly and relaxed host who welcomed us and shared some suggestions for things to do in the area. Great for a stopover on your way to the volcanoes and/or South Point.

The desert was very cool, a great reprieve from the rain of the rainforest! Sally Ann was extremely welcoming and responsive. The campsite offers wonderful views of the stars and ocean; the secluded beach is a bit of a hike, but well worth it! A little paradise.

This a great camping spot in a unique lava desert location. The host was very welcoming. I am so glad that we found this spot - would definitely recommend it to friends who are exploring the Big Island. Thank you, SallyAnn, for opening your property for campers like me!

Highly recommend! Sally Ann was the most welcoming host we met on the BI, she treated us like family and let us use the bathroom and kitchen in her house. We enjoyed the camping area that included a picnic table, chairs, and a little lighted pathway to her house. Enjoyed the lava landscapes in this area as well. The location was perfect for placing us close to the green sand beach, so when we went the next morning we practically had the beach all to ourselves! Thanks SallyAnn!!

Plan to stay again! Really unique environment! The landscape of this part of Hawaii is one of a kind. There are all different kinds of homes spread out in this vast lava flow field as far as the eye can see ending at the ocean view. This space is near an older home that has been in the family. The camping spot where we stayed is behind the house (no ocean view from the spot) nestled in a small area of trees with a pad down for a tent. There is a picnic table and small chairs and table for lounging as well. There are some old trucks and machinery nearby. The rusted metal makes a cool contrast to the blue sky. Sally Ann is a very welcoming host! She gave us use of the kitchen, bathroom and shower. We were very cozy and watched the sunset over the ocean from the front patio on our last night. Short drive to green and black sand beaches. Grocery stores, gas, chain and dine in restaurants located within a few minutes drive.

Sally and her brother Andrew were awesome hosts! They were so nice, answering all my questions, and made sure I was happy with my accommodations. It’s very quiet where they live, and the description of the camp is accurate. I’d highly recommend staying at their place, and enjoy the peacefulness the lava desert provides!

Sally Ann and Andre are the best!! We thought we were just going to set up camp and do our own thing, but we ended up hanging out with them a lot- very cool nice people. You will not regret camping here!

Sally Ann and her brother were great helpful hosts. Easy going and very accomodating. Camped outside, but they let you use their house for water and bathroom.

What a cool little spot! Nice ironwood trees for shade, cute little picnic bench, some neat old machinery nearby...we very much enjoyed the ambience. Amazing night sky and spooky howling wind we’re a plus too, and the hosts were very friendly and accommodating.

Loved staying with Andre, Allen and Sally! Campsite was perfect for our truck camper, and they were so welcoming to let us use their shower and kitchen. They even made coffee in the morning and margaritas at night! (Which we were sadly too tired to indulge in). We would love to come back and stay with them again. We also drove only 12 miles in the morning to South Point and did the green sand beach hike. 10/10 recommend.

Super friendly and comfortable host, warm, welcoming and helpful. The campsite is beside the house in an area protected with beautiful ironwood trees. Just a few steps to the bathroom and kitchen that are inside the house, at the cleanliness level of a community hostel. Surrounding the house is old equipment and surrounding that is the stunning lava desert. Clear sky to sleep under and stargaze and listen to the wind cross over the new land. In the morning we hiked to the secluded beach which was stunning and a real reason to spend the night here. I would stay again!
