A lot of great little touches and thoughtful camping amenities:
Windbreaks / privacy wall for each site, individual fire pits, free bundle of wood, tools to borrow (mallet was genius for fragile tent stakes), dish soap/sponge, etc..
Good location. Jack rabbit spotting. Felt quiet and remote, but close to town and entrance to National Park.
Samuel was welcoming and friendly. Would camp here again!

The Watering Hole
Was in a pinch for the night, found this spot. Plenty of space, firewood, sink, shower and bathroom. Am a solo female traveler and felt safe. Great view of the stars.

The Watering Hole
This was our first hipcamp adventure, and it was great! Great little campsite with plenty of space from other campers. Central toilet, sink, and shower were clean and well-maintained. Samuel thoughtfully provided some commonly forgotten tools :-) Camp sites are clearly marked, and even provide some barrier against the high desert wind. Would definitely return next time we're in the area!

The Watering Hole
Great campsite in Twentynine Palms. Less than a half hour to the Joshua Tree park entrance. The site has a clean toilet to use and nice amenities. And cute dogs!

This was a great stay! Very quiet, clean and comfortable. Samuel was a great host, replied to any questions and was very friendly! His dog is very friendly as well! We will most definitely be coming back for a stay!

Had a great stay this weekend. Was my first time camping so I wanted access to water, bathrooms, shower and shower. Porta potty was very clean, outdoor shower was cute and the dishwashing station and sink was super helpful. It was about 20 mins from the park but much more private and quiet as the park campsite was fully booked and sites were pretty close together

Great stay. Awesome spot, and sunset. It was low key and a great desert spot. Reasonably priced, and a Lovely time. Would camp again.

The location is convenient to the park. However, the location and morning sunrise were the only good parts. Samuel was kind and helpful, quickly bringing us camping chairs when the table at our site didn't have anywhere to sit. The campsites are on a sandlot with not much else around. We unfortunately didn't get any sleep because there were constant dogs barking all night and a porta potty truck driving through at 6am. If the site cost less then I would understand, but at the price there needs to be more of value.

Excellent place to camp, centrally located to all the Joshua Tree sights. Clean porta-potty on site along with great wind shelter and fire pit at each campsite made it a great place to enjoy desert evenings

Samuel was a fantastic host. Everything was clean and set up perfectly before our arrival. He briefly stopped by to share a few tips about maximizing our firewood.
The site itself is great. It's close enough to the main Joshua Tree roads that you don't need to be an experienced camper while still delivering that much desired feeling of being out in the desert. There is also a hand-washing station, outhouse and outdoor shower just a few hundred feet from each of the camping sites.
Definitely recommend the Watering Hole and plan to return!

Great place! Nice clean camp sites. Nice water area. Firewood provided and beautiful night sky. Host is very friendly with adorable sweet pups. We would def stay again!

Our stay at The Watering Hole was enjoyable! The campground is well located, 18 min from the Oasis Visitor Center and 35 min or so to the Joshua Tree city and entrance. It has all the necessary amenities: toilet, shower, water, tables, chairs, and a fireplace. You can even buy wood from Samuel if you didn't bring yours! The place was clean and tidy, and the shower after the whole day of hiking was a fantastic experience :D
Communication with Samuel was very easy, and his directions made it effortless to find the campground.
We would totally recommend this Camping site!

We definitely recommend The Watering Hole! We stayed in site #4 for one night and everything was perfect. The site was very clean with a bathroom, shower, and area to wash dishes. The tent areas are all very spread out, and we didn't hear anyone else all night. The wind guard was very useful! We spent the day exploring J Tree, about 15 mins away (in car), and The Watering Hole was a great place to get some rest afterwards!

We had an excellent stay. Sam and his dogs were very friendly. They only thing that would have made it better is bringing ear plugs. The wind was loud and the coyotes were noisy at times.

The watering hole had cold showers, a station to brush your teeth or wash hands, and a utility sink to wash dishes. Fire pits came with grills to cook. There were lots of tables and chairs to sit and a trash can. Plus corn hole and horse shoes! The porta potty was SO clean. This spot may not be as remote as camping in the park, but the amenities made up for it. It was still pretty quiet and once the fire and s’mores were going we didn’t care. Thanks to our hosts for providing such a great spot!

This was a wonderful site! The host is super nice and was accommodating. The sites are great sizes that come with a picnic table and a big trash can. There is a porta-potty for the sites and it was clean the whole time. The shower is super neat but beware its cold water with high water pressure! Good experience overall.

We enjoyed our two night stay, which included parking, a spot for our tent, a fire pit, a picnic table with one bench, and a trash bin. The shared facilities were a port-a-potty, an outdoor shower (heated only by the sun), an outdoor sink (raised), and an outdoor tub (ground level) with city water. Fire wood was provided ($10 suggested donation). Solar-powered lights indicate the main areas at night.
Not in our host’s control but it was *really* windy at night, which made sleeping challenging, and some of the other guests stayed up later than we did (noise).

Place was great! The water hookup, the fire pit setup and the ample firewood available for purchase made our experience even more amazing.
Plenty of space to social distance.
We caught a little bit of wind but otherwise the experience was great.
Host came out to check and make sure everything was all good after the chilly, windy night and was super responsive in communicating.

Great spot to chill at the end of the day when there is no camping in Joshua Tree. All amenities thought out well! So nice to have some extras like firewood, farm fresh eggs and a rubber mallet to get those stakes in for windy nights!

Nice camp, clean porta potty, firepits, and clearly marked sites. Friendly, courteous people at the other camps.
Also a cold outdoor shower that I enjoyed.
Decent amount of sandy unpaved roads leading into it though so maybe you'll need a car with some clearance.
