🌲 Glen Isle Campgrounds – A Historic Riverside Retreat Welcome to Glen Isle, a 125-year-old mountain resort along the North Fork of the South Platte River, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally reached by train, Glen Isle remains one of Colorado’s last surviving turn-of-the-century resort properties and offers a camping experience rich in history, natural beauty, and community. Because Highway 285 follows the original railroad corridor that once brought visitors here, it runs nearby. We encourage guests to review the map before booking to be sure our location is the right fit for their camping style. Many guests appreciate the easy access along with the beauty of the river, surrounding forest, and nearby mountain trails. 🎣 Activities & Amenities Campers enjoy: • Fishing along the South Platte (no rod fees required) • A 21-hole wooded disc golf course (free for campers) • Rescue horses, miniature donkeys, and miniature goats • Optional guided mini-donkey walks (paid experience) • Bingo nights, camper music nights, and outdoor movie evenings (when scheduled) • Recreation room with games • Guided historic lodge tours and gift shop • Tuesday Food Truck nights • Trailhead ½ mile behind the property • Walking distance to the Coney Island hot dog stand • About 30 miles from Red Rocks Amphitheatre Glen Isle is a historic gathering place rather than a remote backcountry campground, and guests may see other campers and activity around the lodge, especially on summer weekends. Seasonal insects are part of the natural river environment during warmer months. Campsites are currently first-come, first-served within designated camping areas as we transition toward reservable individual sites. 🔥 Fire Policy Due to drought conditions and wildfire risk, wood fires and charcoal are not permitted. Propane fire rings and cooking equipment are welcome. Propane tanks are available to rent for $25. A community fire ring may be used when restrictions allow. 🚗 Important Arrival Note Please do not turn at the Coney Island Boardwalk. Glen Isle is located ½ mile farther west on the same side of Highway 285. The road behind Coney Island is not maintained for passenger vehicles and should not be used to access the property.(If you book with us, please don’t follow your GPS if it tries to make you turn at the Coney Island hot dog stand. Glen Isle is .5 miles past the hot dog stand.)  For your safety and ours: absolutely no check in/arrival after dark sets in; Around 5:15pm during winter months. 7:30pm summer  There are countless reasons why you would want to camp at Glen Isle Resort!  Glen Isle is located in Bailey, Colorado which is the perfect vacation spot for friends, family, reunions, or a private get away. Glen Isle was originally built for an escape from hectic Denver. Once you cross the bridge into the resort, you’ll understand why it has served as a peaceful getaway for over a century. The Platte River welcomes you and divides the property from Highway 285. If you love to fish, you have a mile of the river to use at your disposal. If hiking is your forte and you desire to explore nature, Glen Isle is surrounded by the National Forest, Lost Creek Wilderness, Payne Gulch Trailhead, the Colorado Trail and many private acres for you to explore. You will find history narrates the Native American’s story where Glen Isle was once used as an Indian encampment, and numerous trees still stand today that were culturally modified to mark sacred treasures. If you seek tranquility, you will find hummingbirds and chipmunks always seeking an audience to entertain.   Starting June 1st, we will offer evening activities, and campers are welcome to come to the lodge, shop in our gift shop.  We also have ice cream bars for purchase, and popcorn for our guests to enjoy.  (Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 and statewide regulations, we are not having social gatherings, until further notice.)  :(  (Glorious Glen Isle was unoccupied for six years.  We are in the process of renovating hundred year old cabins, and the 8,000 square foot lodge.  Our camping areas have a river setting, glorious valley views, and a private setting surrounded by the National Forest.  However, there is renovation and construction going on around some areas of the property.  Additionally, as you can see from the map and read in a few reviews, we are just on the other side of the beautiful Platte River from Highway 285.   About 75% of our guests are not bothered by the busyness  of the this highway but others can be more sensitive to the noise.  We want Glen-Isle campers to enjoy their experience as much as possible, so if you would like more information, please do not hesitate to ask.  Our goal is to share the property with others, and to have the "happiest" campers in Colorado!)

We had a fantastic experience there the weather was decent and a little bit cold at night if you stay down next to the river you should expect it to be about 10 to 15 degrees colder than the rest of the place because of the water. There were plenty of trees to hang your hammock on and plenty of space to put up a tent you could even go back into a more secluded area that was up against The Rock face back behind trees if you wanted. We had a great time we walked around we got a tour of the lodge which was really cool. And we went to the Sasquatch Outpost and Bailey as well several other places that were open it was really great time. We also went for a hike on the pain gulch trail which was very pretty very good views. I would highly recommend camping at this campground the only downside was the road traffic because of the highway right there could be a little loud at times but it didn't interfere with sleeping or anything else.

We had a blast at Glen Isle. Everything from camping to fishing to disc golf everything was fantastic. Hosts were amazing and the campsite was private and riverside. A great close getaway and a few days in paradise. Cute horses and donkeys as well. Best campsite we have been to all year. It’s the total package!

No complaints! Beautiful sites right down by the river, can wake up and roll out of the tent and be fishing in a matter of minutes. At least during our stay, the traffic on the road across the river was quite light during the night and I didn't notice it while sleeping - I suppose if that really bothers you it could be an issue but for us it was totally fine and mostly covered up by the sound of the river.

Such a fun spot to spend a weekend with kids who can run around playing ping pong, pool, hide and seek around the enormous property, etc. The road was loud at night even camping from the top but it was fine in the end. We had a blast!

Greg & Mary Ruth were WONDERFUL hosts! We had the entire campground by the river to ourselves and loved the ability to enjoy the surroundings without neighbors. We managed to get our van stuck (driving where we shouldn't) but Mary Ruth helped immediately by calling Greg who was kind enough to get us out right away. Very thankful for that!

This is an amazing place to get away and camp or glamp. I pitched my tent in the Meadows area right next to the flow of The Platte River. So relaxing, peaceful and affordable. Found an open area to watch the meteor showers on the 100 acres of Glen Isle Resort. The staff is very inviting and helpful. I will be back. Thanks for a great experience. Aloha

Amazing campground! Easy and quick access from Denver. We camped by the river which we were told can be loud due to car traffic from the street across but if you get close enough to the roaring rapids you won’t have a problem. Well lit, clean toilets and live music on Tuesdays. We pet the donkeys and horses on the property and they were so cute and kind! I can’t say enough good things about this site.

Everyone we dealt with was great, and all in all we had a good time. There are a few things people should know though before choosing this camp site. We stayed near the river, rather than on the hillside overlook. The river area was very buggy, and we went through a lot of repellant. Also this site is a stone’s throw from highway 285. It was very loud. Hopefully the other site is quieter up on the hill. My daughter really wanted to fish right from the campground. We did, but the trees lining the shore made fishing there difficult. We still had fun, and we realize that bugs come with the territory when camping especially right next to a river. But the road noise is significant and if you’re a light sleeper, you should probably think twice. While we were there we found out a couple was getting married in a small (perhaps eloping) ceremony. We hope it was wonderful! Definitely a beautiful setting for it!

Beautiful wooded area by a fast moving river. Gracious hosts. Port a potty close to sites and water from a spicket by the horse stall. We had use of a picnic table. Coffee shop was not open at the time.

Glen Isle was a great dip into history and the local area. We only camped for a night along the river. Our spot offered us privacy from other campers and a cool spot to dip into. We walked the property to the ceremony deck which was a beautiful view.

I had received a message on Hipcamp from the hostess with the check in instructions advising me to call once I arrived. I arrived Friday afternoon and I called as the message requested. No one answered. I went into the lodge to where I had to ask the person lying on the couch if they worked there, which she did. I was told there are no camping spots by the river since there was a large group that took it over. So I was shown the other spots to camp were next to a house with old rusting shipping containers next to it and other old items. We stayed the one night since we made the drive and the campsites were not as advertised.

Lounging in the restored lodge feels like stepping back in time to the 19th century. I love those camping spots which are by the rushing creek where you can also hear the hidden highway across from it. As you absorb nature, while the rest of humanity rushes past, oblivious, it feels like entering a different dimension. Sitting with other visitors around a campfire listening to a musician feels like a better world. Totally relaxing.

A great getaway from Denver and would absolutely recommend to try your new gear, take kids camping for the first time, etc. They have three areas with multiple dispersed sites at each. The river sites do have hwy 285 right across from them but we were able to enjoy the river and tune out the highway. Sites are dispersed enough you can feel privacy from others but also adjacent enough you could camp with friends. Clean portopotties. Flat and safe campsites. If you get a chance to explore the lodge, it's an amazing education and experience of the 120 year history of the property. It was an ideal campsite for our son who hates camping and would be a great home base for hiking near Bailey. We will be back.

Glen isle has not if positives. It’s beautiful, rivers, mountains, hikes, animals and friendly owners and staff. Unfortunately for me, the negative as a bad one and i wish I knew before hand. The tent camping is by a river. Directly on other side of river is main road. It’s so loud, it’s hard to sleep with cars and trucks. It’s bad. And I was friendly with other campers who all were shocked at this issue. If loud traffic isn’t an issue u for you, then it is highly recommended.

It was a beautiful campground with lots of privacy in the camping area. We were at the Point, which overlooked the mountain stream, the range and the adjacent highway. It was gorgeous. Mary Ruth was extremely helpful in guiding us into the campground! :) We loved our brief stay there.

What a delightful camping trip! We spent 3 nights tent- camping down by the river and we had such a lovely experience. There were lots of spots for the kids and our pups to explore and go a little wild; the river was so fun to have running right beside our campsite, and it truly was a magical little glen that we were camping in. I loved the fairy lights and it was really handy to have a little electricity to charge small things. The sounds of the highway were always present, but it just faded to background noise quickly for me and I had no trouble sleeping. On Tuesday we got to join a community night up by the lodge, hear some music, and our kids played in the little stream and made some good friends on the playground. We will definitely be back soon!

Third year in a row tent camping near the river at Glen Isle Resort! We love how much space there is and plugging in the tree lights at night. Plus we always make friends with everyone who stays here and we enjoy exploring the historic lodge and playing on the playground equipment. I usually bring my own propane fire pit but they have some there for rent. The river spot is perfect for a large tent camping group and is my favorite camping tradition. We are definitely coming back next year! :-)

Overall, this was a great camping spot. The site was clean, well-kept, and easy to access. We enjoyed our stay and found everything we needed for a comfortable trip. The only downside is that it’s located right next to a road, so there was quite a bit of traffic noise at times. If you're sensitive to sound, that might be something to keep in mind. Otherwise, a solid spot for camping!

The resort is nice, a fixer upper and twas an elegant place surely. The locals show there color and the land is exquisite. It was rainy and cold for us but we made the best of it. The road and the river are very near by. Give it a go.
