We had an absolutely wonderful stay here, and while the pictures are great - they only offer a glimpse into the amazing views of Lake Superior this place has to offer.
What really made the experience so incredible was the thoughtfulness Jon put into crafting this site. Everything was setup beautifully and carefully. Any "need" that we had there was something clean and functional provided to accommodate us.
Peaceful, quiet, and fun
I took my wife here for anniversary and what a perfect spot to get away and isolate your self. all you need to bring with you is food, and maybe a fan for at night it's a little to quiet!
Thanks for the experience Jon
Awesome view, bummer clean-up
Beautiful view and a cool shelter, but room for improvement in terms of cleanliness and communication.
Several of the interior lights didn't work and no extra batteries. I was glad I'd brought my own lantern.
The open air kitchen is cool, but a mouse a set up camp there as well. Also, previous campers left the camp stove dirty (egg shell bits, burnt cheese) and dirty dishes in the dish drainer. Mice feces in the stove. No closed containers provided for dishes or cookware. I spent quite a lot of time cleaning up after others... not cool. I cleaned the stove, plates, bowls, flatware and left clean dishes in Ziploc freezer bags I had with me. Bummer and not what I'd expect for $100/night.
I sent a message via HipCamp with my ETA the day of my arrival 9/2 and later sent an email letting him know I'd arrived and asked about do's/don'ts as no welcome or introductory communication was provided. When I left on 9/4 I sent a message via HipCamp letting Jon know I'd checked out and described the extra clean up needed with the kitchen. No responses from the host beyond what was included in the HipCamp description.
A true gem
Jon has a great set up! Comfortable bed, warm cuddly linens, dry!!! It was pouring during our stay and we were snug and dry in the “tent.” Great kitchen area, nice propane stove, everything you’d need. I do recommend this spot! The walk through the woods to get there is easy, even in the dark!!
Peaceful and great location
We really enjoyed our stay at this camp! It’s beautifully designed and so peaceful. We didn’t end up doing any cooking on site, but had we wanted to, everything we needed would have been available!! The hammock was great for reading and, for an outdoor bathroom, it was also well designed and cute.
The short hike in was made easier by a convenient little trailer to carry everything that we brought.
A couple recommendations would be to be sure the bed has a top sheet. Also, maybe a sketched out map of the trails advertised and the “sweet swimming hole”. We found neither and actually walked around quite a bit to try to find these things. Also, there was a cute string of lights above the bed but I couldn’t figure out how to turn them on. Maybe just a little sheet could be left with some of this general information about the property.
We loved our stay and would return for sure! The location is great! Jon recommended the sea kayak tour at Meyer’s Beach and we loved it! Would recommend that as well!
Absolutely beautiful and peaceful setting. Nice touches inside the tent and comfy bed. Due to external circumstances i wasnt able to locate or use the advertised onsite trails and potable water was a few miles down the road, not right onsite. A little mouse family established in the kitchen area, but it is the great outdoors. Super peaceful place and the view is fantastic. Would have liked to hike the trails onsite, next time.
