10.25.21 Matt was gracious and eager host and we were psyched to be his first guests. We were looking for an (admittedly) last-minute site near Harper's Ferry during a gorgeous fall weekend with great leaves. Not surprisingly, 99.9% of sites were booked on the "traditional" sites. But, the REI Coop catalog had just arrived that afternoon, and I saw the promotion for Hipcamp, so I checked it out....and Matt's location, descriptions, and details sold me.

We stayed on his upper site which we loved. Both are drive up sites, and you can distance yourself from your car, but only so far. (The lower lot might be a little bigger, and it’s tucked into the bend of an almost-dry creek bed. There’s a picnic table at that site.)

We liked that the upper site was higher up on a slope and was surrounded by trees and rocks. Matt had cleared out and leveled three amply-sized spots for tents, and it truly is as advertised: "fits three 4person tents." Taking advantage of several natural rock and boulder outcroppings, Matt fashioned a fire pit/shelf and another rock that we used as our kitchen table island for our camp. We had two tents—a 2 and a 4—with two adults, three teen daughters, and two dogs. EVERYONE was comfortable. Dropped trees made a nice ledge separating the tent level from the fire pit level. Plenty of trees for covering and for hammocks remained. A firm fill of soft chips covered the ground for our tents.

Matt and his kids greeted us immediately, was super responsive by text when we needed additional directions, and offered lots of other support (a port-a-potty, more water, etc. at his house) and fire wood. A great host, a great site and an excellent first experience with Hipcamp.

....big and small!Dog friendly! This is the upper site. A lower site is also available.Drive up. Easy access. Car is right there, but nonetheless quite and private.
