Our stay at the shabin
Our stay at the Shabin was great and exactly the kind of rest and relaxation our family of four needed to end the summer. The gated entrance to the five separate lots provided us with privacy, peace and quite to hear the soothing sound of the water running by on the Wallace River. Our host Maria was awesome and has done a fantastic job setting up the Shabin with the amenities need for a wonderful ‘Glamping’ experience.
This is a perfect getaway!! My family and I enjoyed it so much! It’s a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the views! The river is perfect for kids to play in! I would definitely come back again! The Shabin is so cute and decorated with everything you need! Maria was a great host and answered all of our questions!
Go here to relax!
Wow! It was just what we needed. So quiet. The river was a few steps away. Get up early and hit Wallace Falls hike - 5 min away. And you can still get Mexican food in sultan. WiFi is you HAVE to work. But pls don’t! Just enjoy this calm spacious space. Maria is a top-notch host. Incinerator toilet was new to me and totally worked.
Super cozy cabin on the river!
Had an amazing time staying at the Shabin with friends! The property is serene and peaceful.
The river access is almost completely private and you will only encounter occasional neighbor and friends. With the hot & dry summer we've had, the river was super low and you can hike along it and adventure endlessly!
Creekside family fun at the shabin
This place fit so many of the things we were looking for in a vacation spot and Maria and the Shabin totally delivered.
We visited the Shabin in early August during a particularly hot stretch (over 90 degrees both days) with 2 adults, 2 kids (ages 7 and 12), and a small pupper. The creek access is private and safe for kids of all ages (depending on where you set yourself up). Maria has supplied some water toys and chairs to enjoy that space to the fullest. Even in August there were some spots deep enough for adults to fully submerge and plenty of knee deep wading areas for little ones.
The Shabin itself was very clean and well organized. It was well stocked with kitchen basics, paper products, and most utensils. If you are doing a lot of your own cooking, bring some knives, but otherwise everything you need is there. There were zero complaints about the incinerating toilet and the kids even found the whole thing very cool. Maria even provided a dog bed, treats, and clean-up bags for the dog.
We found it very easy to convert the couches into sleep areas and then back again each day. We slept 4 downstairs because of the heat, but in other settings we can see how it would be cool to use the loft too.
Pro-tip: The Woodshed Espresso & Ice Cream in Gold Bar is an awesome place to stop for unique ice cream flavors and great coffee. Also, they sell bags of ice for way cheaper than the other corner stores in town.
-If another party is renting The Overlook @ Wallcae, then you would be sharing the bathroom and possibly some parking space and creek hangout space. We were lucky to have the whole place to ourselves.
-Getting down to the beach is still a work in progress. Little ones may need extra assistance. Plan on packing what you need to stay down there for a few hours because its worth it and trips up and down are a little annoying.
-The road into the Shabin from the gate is mostly ok if you take it really slow, with only one rocky section that is short but rough.
-We should have taken more care to use less of the provided water from the sink. We are campers and used to using our own water, dishes in the creek, etc. But with the tap right there we went back to city habits and used it all very quick.
-Verizon provided almost no service up there. However, we used one phone with service through AT&T to create a hotspot and were firing up 4-5 devices off it at times with no major issues.
I wouldn’t call this camping, or even glamping, but if you are an outdoorsy camping type family and want a cushy vacation spot this place is perfect.
8 acres of paradise on the Wallace is an absolute must. The host Maria goes above and beyond to ensure you enjoy this labor of love. The photos just dont do this place justice. The "Shabin" has wonderful views of the river and lushious foilage all around. Great amenities to enhance your experience. A perfect way to spend time with a group of friends n family or a romantic getaway. This place is amazing.
