Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. We'd like to share the camp with others and see it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do.

Site 3 (aka Butterfly 1)
This was the absolute perfect little woodsy getaway for my kids and I. Being so early in the season, I think we were one of just two parties camping on the property which made it so beautifully quiet and serene. The picturesque creek running behind our campsite is the stuff my kids’ dreams are made of. We loved Thunder BRidge and would highly recommend it! The fire pit with grills were perfect for our campfire meals and the shelter kept us dry on a VERY rainy couple of nights. Thanks Adam.

Nee favorite campgrounds
We loved camping on Adam's land! He made us feel safe by moving to a better campsite since the previous one had loose tree branches that could have fell on us. Adam made sure we knew where our new location was by sending us pictures and videos to guide us. We arrived later than expected so his resources were a great help. Adam made sure that we were good to go as we arrived to the campsite. We were close enough to a bathroom and the pavilion which was optimal location. The creek behind the campsite was the family's favorite part. Family is already talking about the next time to come back out.

Great property and location
Adam was a great host. He meet us upon check in and provided a map of his property. He made us feel very welcome and comfortable on his property. Power and water hookup was easy to use and has a dump station on property. We will definitely be back. Thank you for opening this up to campers.

Thunder Bridge Cabin 2 (Parcell)
Adam is a lovely person and he and his family have recently acquired this very cool property with a lot of history. I am sure every year it will get better and better. It is not far off 81 which is great if you are traveling and in a lovely area especially if you want to go to natural bridge or explore. The cabins are truly old. very cool, but very very rustic, so keep that in mind. There is a lovely stream that is crystal clear. We stopped in off season so there wasn't any running water or electricity, but we knew that and enjoyed our overnight as there were no other people and we have a new dog who is new to the camping experience !!
