Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private campsites in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our 100 acres was originally a CCC camp, then a boys’ juvenile detention center and Big Brothers’/Big Sisters’ camp. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil’s Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail. We've decided to keep the cabin open for the winter months (Dec. through March) but the bath house will not be open unless we have unseasonably warm temperatures. There will be outhouses for your use and we can provide drinking water if you need it.Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge Cabin 1 has a very large lot which could accommodate additional tents for an additional fee. The cabin has no electric so bring lanterns and flashlights. If you need water you will have to go to the pavilion, which is a short walk or drive away. If you're not out seeing the nearby sites, you're going to want to spend your time relaxing on the front porch.  You'll need to bring your own sleeping bag, sheets and pillows.  Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the '30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. You're welcome to explore the property and get a feel for the history of the place. We'd like to share the camp with others and see it come back to life. Within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devils Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there's something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do.

Thunder BRidge Cabin 1
Family Cabin trip
The cabin was great! Our first cabin trip with our newborn son - Adam went the extra mile to provide enough firewood for the cold nights so we didn’t have to worry about the little man staying warm. Great family get away for those that don’t mind roughing it but like 4 walls and a bed. We will definitely be coming back!

Primitive Cabin Camping at its Best
Thunder Bridge Cabin 1 was awesome! My family and our dogs loved staying here while exploring the area. It's a great basic cabin with a fireplace inside and a fire ring outside. There's a table, a couch, a few chairs, and plenty of cots. There's no electricity, but we brought a few lanterns and lit a fire in the evening and had plenty of light. The porch put back was a great place to hang out during the evening. While in the area, we visited the Safari Park, Natural Bridge, and Lexington, all within about 20 minutes of the site.

AMAZING
Our trip was absolutely amazing. Adam was one of the most fantastic hosts that we have ever had the pleasure of meeting.. The cabin was exactly what I imagined it would be, which was by the way perfect. The entire property was so well taken care of. I highly recommend this for everyone..

Thunder BRidge Cabin 1
Cozy Stay
Perfect setting and experience. The cabin was exactly as advertised and Adam provided plenty of firewood for keeping warm. There's quite a lot of things to do in the area but the camp itself also has several artists in residence and hosted an open studio event while we were there that was vibrant and charming. We enjoyed wandering around the camp and learning about the history. If you find yourself in the pavilion, make sure you try the skittle game. The hot water and flush toilets in the pavilion (short drive from the cabin) were a really nice bonus that we didn't expect.
