Great spot, fantastic hospitality! Liz thinks of all the little things so you don't have to. My 5 year old son and I had a great weekend hanging out and kayaking up and down the Connecticut river! If you prefer to not cook, Liz provides an amazing vegan menu, delivered right to your tent!
Liz’s place was great! The view is just as good as in the pictures (more so I might even say), and wow does the wood stove keep things nice and toasty. We’d be happy to come back and next time try her cooking you can add on too.
Nice & cozy relaxing retreat
We are avid tent campers and go to many state forests over New England in the summer/fall season. We decided to try a hipcamp near Wilgus state park (where we normally camp over Labor Day) as something different. The view was beautiful, being right over the CT river with a private deck and a dock right on the water to relax on. Additionally, we had use of the 2 kayaks and a paddle boat the owner has on the property. While the photos may be a bit outdated from the listing; it didn’t deter us from having a wonderful time and it was still charming. It isn’t always fun camping in the rain, and while it didn’t rain the entire Labor Day wkd, it did enough for us to be grateful for the cover and the comfortable bed with a stove inside the camp to keep us cozy warm. Liz was a very gratuitous host and responded to any questions we had very quickly. My only caveat would be that the house behind is also rented out - so depending on the guests and what you are looking for, it could be a mix of seclusion or potential of sharing the property. We had a lovely family with a young daughter & dog and so it wasn’t intrusive and pretty quiet. (Hope they say the same for us!). So with that I would def would recommend staying here and hope to again in the future.
Liz has a beautiful site right on the river with everything you need. All sorts of cookware, kayaks, kitchen, firepit and a pretty decent comfortable double bed. Really, all you need is your personal items. It was extremely hot during our visit and Liz did everything possible to keep us comfortable, and the shower and the river were a God send! Plenty of attractions to visit in a short drive too.
Fantastic, relaxing location
We only stayed for one night, but the setup was perfect for anyone looking for an authentic outdoor experience, but with the convenience that comes with having an experienced host. The tent was comfortable and Liz was a great host, having already set up the wood burning stove inside, while also preparing the outdoor fire pit since I mentioned we wanted to barbecue. Couldn't have asked for a better experience!
We stayed at the height of winter (The river was frozen. Temps below zero at night) and our stay was absolutely perfect. Liz has thought of every last detail and has made the tent super cozy. We cooked both nights; once on the wood burning stove and once in the propane over. We’ll be coming back in the fall.
