We have tried to remain true to our core values when we decided to share our property with campers. Our main concern here is for the impact to the environment. Because we live over the Edwards Aquifer we pay close attention to water usage. In our home we use 90% rainwater. The camp toilet and shower are also rainwater. The toilet flushes into a conventional septic system. We want to be clear that this is not KOA or Jellystone Camp, these are private owners sharing their beautiful land with folks who can appreciate it. We work hard to keep things clean and safe for our guests. If you have any concerns please notify us through the Hipcamp forum before booking a reservation, our goal is to have HAPPY C
I have several homemade disc golf baskets .For those that enjoy ball golf Bring your clubs and I'll sell you a bucket of golf balls to drive. I also have ring toss and a large trampoline. The property has an expansive feel to it with a minimal amount of traffic. There are only 3 properties beyond mine on a dead end road. The evenings are a special time of the day. the sun drops the breeze picks up and you can exhale the day away. The stargazing is awesome with a pair of binoculars or a telescope.
Please be considerate and arrive at camp during daylight hours. It is easier to set up camp and for me to show you around. This may take some extra planning on your part but will insure a seamless camping experience. We work on the ranch from sunrise to dusk and when the sun goes down we like to relax. If you have extenuating circumstances that prevent you from getting here during daylight hours please inform us of this well in advance and we will work with you.
San Marcos also offers it's own share of things to do and places to go. The crystal clear river is our greatest resource. Floating, kayaking and canoeing are all great fun. We have rentals here, just ask. There is our awesome newly remolded library, outlet mall, Texas State University (and all it has to offer to the general public) and much much more.

Lovely summer spot
John’s land was well tended and the perfect spot for me and my friends to hang out and enjoy the summer night. It’s located so close to Don’s Fish camp and the other tubing spots, which is super convenient and made for the end of a perfect day. Thank you John for being so helpful and hospitable!
Had a great time camping at Twisted Oaks with my wife, son, and dog. Place was exactly as described, with no surprises. John was the perfect host and helped us get wood situated for our fire.
Summer 2021 river trip
We came to float the river and decided to go camping and we don’t regret it! John was very nice and accommodating and it was a nice experience. The outdoor shower in the morning was my favorite part and it was very secluded away from the noisy town. Overall was a good experience and I believe I got my money’s worth, thank you John!
We had a great time at Camp Twisted Oaks. The site was big and well appointed. It has a very cool fire pit, with a cooking grate and metal cover. There was also a large wooden table that was perfect to store a camping stove, dishes, lanterns and anything else you want to keep off the ground. And the tent site had a nice outdoor rug/mat to protect our tent from the ruggedness of the ground. There were no other campsites near ours, so we had privacy. There was a bathroom with clean water for hand washing and a flushing toilet (you have to add water to the tank, but that was no big deal at all) that flushes to a septic system. There was an outside shower that was heated by the day's sunlight that felt awesome after a full day in the sun. There was also a dish washing station set up near the bathroom/shower with clean water which was nice.
John was an excellent host. He showed us around and gave detailed explanations about how everything worked. His home town is the same as my wife's so they had lots to talk about. :) John helped us with directions when we called him from town asking him about his favorite river spot for his dogs. John solicited suggestions from us about how he could make continuous improvements to his site/amenities. We suggested adding a curtain (or privacy screen) to his outdoor shower (even though there was no one around) and he texted me the next day saying that he had put one up and thanked me for the suggestion.
All in all, the trip and the campsite was great. It was what we were looking for (private and away from it all), yet close to town (10 minute drive). John was around in the morning and evening to check on us, see if we needed anything and to chat about our day and then we had time for ourselves to do what we love, be outdoors under the stars and enjoy our quiet time together.
We enjoyed ourselves at Camp Twisted Oaks. The place definitely had character. We stayed at purple campsite which was a huge space and a more open area with a bit less shade than the yellow campsite. Definitely a more rustic feel, probably wouldn’t recommend for children, but John the owner was very attentive and consistently checked in to make sure we had everything we needed.
Awesome host, awesome camping
John was super cool. We cut our trip short because the weather turned, but John was so accomodating, he said we could come back any time when the weather is good. His land is beautiful. The main entrance may throw you off...it seems busy with lots of his projects and stuff, once you go 30 yards onto his land, he has the best camping spots you could imagine!
John was a great host. He was very accommodating and checked on us a few times. He has a few sites on the property. The first one had a few too many items, but John let us have our pick at some other areas. His land is very beautiful and there is a lot of acreage to walk around a bit, let the dogs play. Perfect spot to sit around the fire and enjoy some nature. It was also great to have the firewood already ready to go.
