Primitive camping and small trailer sites. Plenty of acreage to explore. The Goat Pens of Cigar Springs Ranch are easily accessed and located on South County Road. This central location provides an ideal basecamp close to the Terlingua Ghost Town and both Big Bend State and National Parks. The unique geology and topography of the Goat Pens made this a popular movie set and many westerns were filmed here in the 80's and 90's. Come out and enjoy seclusion, peace and quiet, awesome scenery with sunrises and sunsets to die for. All while still being able to easily take advantage of the area's other attractions.
The Goat Pens includes an outdoor events venue that hosts concerts, stargazing parties, festivals and weddings. The Goat Pens also has the only drive-in movie theater in the Big Bend area. Send a text or check The Goat Pens Facebook page (@goatpens) for information and dates of events. Hipcampers always receive free admission to events.

The Goat Pens campground is located 1.5mi off of Route 170, just a couple of minutes away from the Starlight Theatre and souvenir shop next door.
The sites are spacious and offer great views of the surrounding hills. We only stayed for one night but would definitely come back.
Peaceful, clean and convenient
In a word, easy. It was close to Big Bend National Park (+/- 4 mi), Teralingua and Big Bend Ranch State Park (not our destination this trip).
Keeping in mind that I had very low expectations, it was everything I had hoped and more. For example, the fact there were clean outhouses stocked with tp and running water was definitely a plus!
While we stayed, there were probably 7-8 other campers in our area who kept plenty of distance and were very respectful of their noise and light production which allowed us to see some of the dark skies we came for. We were also grateful for the ability to use the fire rings to enjoy our morning and evening campfires.
We were hoping to listen to some live music but unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate this time around.
If you’re on the fence, you really can’t go wrong with this place!
Neat spot! Location close to Terlingua Ghost Town, Big Bend National Park, and Big Bend Ranch State Park. Plenty of room to camp, clean bathrooms, and a stage, though no music the nights we were there. The dirt road to the campsite was good, navigable by any vehicle. Would stay again.
Short, but what i wanted
Only stayed for one night, but it was nice enough and was I needed. When I showed up I saw a poster for a music act that was supposed to perform that night, which got me excited. After nobody showed up, I realized it was cancelt due to weather, but would have been a nice surprise in theory.
The Goat Pens was a beautiful place to camp. The stars at night were simply beautiful. The outdoor showers felt amazing and the bathrooms were clean. I love the remoteness of it, yet a short drive to the National and State Parks.
