HOT WATER SHOWERS, running water, THREE flush toilets, electrical outlets, device chargers, full kitchen, refrigerator, coffee maker, safe & easy campsite access, all make our remote, off grid campground exceptional in this area!

Our ranch is located around five miles from the main highway and about 25 miles from the gate into Big Bend National Park. We are very secluded & private, with virtually no nighttime "light pollution", so you can view our awesome night sky. This, plus our location, affords a 360 degree panoramic view of the legendary Big Bend night sky. Spectacular views of many mountains are in every direction, with 4885' Agua Fria dominating from about five miles to the southwest. But your views extend up to 50 miles, so most of the area mountains can be seen and enjoyed from here.

New in 2022 is our desert wetlands. We have dammed our 12-acre arroyo, which has created a reservoir of water for many months after even a small rain event. Local wildlife flocks to this area in the evenings, as do migratory birds. When there is sufficient water, guests may enjoy wading and swimming in a part of the lake as well.

We cater primarily to tent & "open air" camping , campers on trucks and small, "teardrop" type trailers. However, we do have 10 nice, large sites that most RVs and rigs with larger trailers can use, though “bus length” ones will find the 5 mile long road in difficult but passable. In fact that road usually has enough ruts & natural "speed bumps", that you can travel 20 MPH at best, so allow 15-20 minutes for the scenic but slow drive in....... it is well worth the time!

There are NO HOOK-UPs, dump station, nor power available for trailers & RVs.  However we can provide drinking  & wash water. You MUST be self-contained! For those that do come here, you will find very private sites with excellent views.

For those looking for more "traditional" lodging, we also offer two very nice, but small, guest rooms now. These are a separate listing on HIPCAMP, under "ECO-RANCH GUEST ROOMS".

EVERY SITE is spacious and a good distance from others, unintentionally, but effectively: "SOCIAL DISTANCED"! Both Robert & Debbie are fully vaccinated against Covid. We will not require proof of vaccination, but do request that all guests who are not vaccinated, respect mainstream science & medicine and wear masks, or keep your distance.

There are five ways to camp here in five distinct areas around the property: The "Upper Campground Area", "Bus Stop Mesa", "The Far Side", "Social Distancing Plus" AND the "Guest Rooms". The "Upper Campground" area is closest to the toilets, but has smaller sites. "Bus Stop Mesa" is a long, thin mesa that stretches out into our 12 acre arroyo. There are six sites there.  "The Far Side" is just that, on the far side of the arroyo. There are seven sites there and five for large groups or RVs/trailers.  There is an "outhouse" that is a flush toilet and sink on the "far side". "Social Distancing Plus" are seven spots we created for maximum privacy. They are spaced about the fringes of the property, remote & have no WIFI, but also no neighbors!

Folks interested in the Guest Rooms and large group camping, including VERY large groups, will need to go the the HIPCAMP listings for the "Eco-Ranch Guest Rooms" & "Eco-Ranch Large Group Camping", as these are priced different than the regular campsites.

Sunrise at the Eco-Ranch is a spectacular event, made more quaint by the gentle crowing of our roosters, who sometimes think sunrise is arriving far earlier. You are a distance from them though! Sunset is the same. The campground has uninhibited views of both events and if you are lucky enough to be here during the 3-4 days of the full moon, moonrise is a once-in-a-lifetime event!

We offer a toilet/bath house/kitchen facility. In addition to the flush toilets, which are a rarity in area campgrounds, we installed an on demand hot water supply for the shower, so that you could enjoy a hot shower!  Also, on "the far side", we have just completed another flush toilet, shortening the walk to the toilet and giving you a total of three toilets in the campground. All the running water is potable.

The lighted kitchen features a two burner propane stove, full-sized double sink, small refrigerator, counter space, coffee maker (free coffee), cookware & place settings, along with USB, 12 volt & 110 volt ac plugs with a counter to place your devices on while charging.

This is a 100% off-grid working poultry/goat/aquaponics ranch! We usually have fresh eggs, seasonal vegetables and even poultry meat available for you to purchase.

Roosters will crow & geese will honk. These sounds can carry, so be aware of that! Kids will love the fact that all our animals are tame and the barnyard is a wonderful "petting zoo" experience for them! Gardeners will love the 1600 square foot greenhouse with its 4000 gallon aquaponics system. and year around, seasonal produce.

We provide limited electrical power (15 amps) from a small solar electric system in new bath house/kitchen structure, 100% off grid! Four of the sites are in easy reach of an extension cord. However, you CANNOT run an RV refrigerator, hot plate, electric heat, or air conditioning. Medical devices like a CPAP machine can be used.

Hikers can explore many miles of road, but must bear in mind that in Texas, ALL land is privately owned and you must be respectful of that at all times. We are also 3 miles from a spring-fed "swimming hole" that may be enjoyed, so long as you respect the land and pack out what you pack in.

The Big Bend Parks are about 25 miles from here. The McDonald Observatory is about 100 miles from here and the mysterious "Marfa Lights" about 80 miles from us....... but still close enough that some stray into view at times, depending on your alcohol intake.

As stated, this is also a working poultry & goat farm and we have to attend to our farm as our first priority. This requires our attention in the early morning and into the evening. We STRONGLY URGE CAMPERS TO ARRIVE BEFORE DARK!!!

However, we realize that many people have time management issues and have made some allowance for the rare late arrival. So if you plan on leaving home late and arriving here late, you will need to contact us for instructions. You will also need to select a site on arrival in the "upper campground", nearest the bath house, so you do not disturb other campers.

Our entire property is a NO FIREARMS ZONE. We DO NOT allow firearms (or fireworks) on the property and NO ONE may carry one on their person while on our property. (If you insist on having a firearm with you, just lock it IN YOUR VEHICLE when on the property!!!!)

Your great reviews have placed us as "finalists" in the rankings for "The Best Campground In Texas" for the last three years running!  OUTSIDE MAGAZINE recently ranked us the BEST HIPCAMP CAMPGROUND (May 2021) near Big Bend National Park as well!

This is one of my favorite campsites. At the location, I not only saw a perfect sunset and sunrise millions of stars hovering over.
The place has a great little kitchen set up to cook and refrigerate food and the bathrooms were clean and showers are available.
I give the place five stars.
Perfect directions also provided cuz you can't map it on your phone

I initially booked this site for two nights because they had showers. The directions on the listing said it was a 15-20 minute drive from the main road, which seemed practical for my group’s needs. However, after booking the site I got a message from the host with updated directions telling me the road in the original directions was impassible. Unfortunately, once I got this message I lost signal and was not able to let the other car in our group know (leading to a whole other ordeal of trying to find and meet up with them to give them the new directions). This would have been forgivable if this change had been due to weather conditions, but we were told by the local sheriff that this road is permanently closed due to land disputes. It would be nice if this change was reflected on the site posting, especially since this new route took twice as long to get through. Soon after setting up our site, my friend started feeling ill (COVID symptoms) so we decided it would be best to cancel the second night and go home in the morning. I canceled the second night of our booking, hoping that since it was still 24 hours in advance I could get a refund, but that was not the case. I messaged the host to try and get the refund but he just said that since most people leave to camp in Big Bend he wouldn’t give us one. The site was nice, but due to all the other inconveniences I would not stay here again.

Response from Robert, the Host, on July 26th, 2022

This camper is WAY off base. The extremely detailed directions he received, he received from BOTH myself & HIPCAMP over 48 hours before his arrival. That is plenty of time to notify everyone that there had been a change in the route in here. This change in the route had been posted to HIPCAMP and our autoresponders for three weeks prior to this camper's visit. We cannot be responsible if campers fail to check their messages within 48 hours or is mad because the safe route here takes a few minutes longer. Our cancellation policy is clearly stated as flexible. This camper had already checked in and was NOT over 24 hours from check-in when he decided with no explanation that they were leaving. NO refunds, per HIPCAMP. HOWEVER, had the guest stated there was COVID in his party, we would have asked HIPCAMP to refund the entire booking fee. HE said nothing except he was leaving, then, when NOT face to face, started messaging for refunds, still with no mention of COVID, until this review.

Wonderful hosted spot outside of Big Bend. This unique sustainable space was a quite an experience, off the beaten path. It was well thought out, with the most gorgeous night sky view. We were lucky enough to catch the full moon eclipse, and the view of the rising moon cannot be beat.

The hosts were lovely, the fresh eggs were an added treat & overall we enjoyed our stay.

Robert and Debbie are incredibly nice and their land is beautiful. The property is one of a gorgeous dessert setting with lose sand and heaven for photography. It’s very dark and peaceful at night. Just be prepared for strong winds. There were certain times during the night when the wind was quite strong. Definitely not a deal breaker for me but worth taking note of. Fire pits are provided at each camp site. Water can sometimes be scarce but bathrooms with flush toilet are provided and showers are available for a small fee. Overall a very nice camping experience, especially if your looking for some slightly challenging terrain. Don’t worry, this should be plenty accessible for most 2 wheel drive vehicles. The host will always alert you beforehand if one road is more drivable than the other at any given time. I really enjoyed this camp site and will definitely be back. Hopefully for a bit longer next time.

Eco Ranch was the perfect place for myself and my friends to stay while exploring big bend & the surrounding area! We felt safe, comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed the landscape of Robert & Debbie’s property, so much so we decided to spend every sunset there instead of in the park. The property itself is so unique and an entire experience on its own, the swimming hole was crisp and BEAUTIFUL, showers were hot, kitchen made meals simple and the hosts themselves were really lovely!

It’s a bit far from the national park but i found the experience at the Eco Ranch well worth the extra distance!

So much to explore on this property!! Hiked to the mountains and through the canyons. Beautiful all around. Prepare for any kind of weather... Heat, cold and heavy winds. Clean outhouse. Wifi, open kitchen, full bathroom, showers close to the owners house. Overall, great experience! Bring a canopy, it saved us from the heat.
