Our ranch is located around five miles from the main highway and about 25 miles from the gate into Big Bend National Park. We are very secluded & private, with virtually no nighttime "light pollution", so you can view our awesome night sky. This, plus our location, affords a 360 degree panoramic view of the legendary Big Bend night sky. Spectacular views of many mountains are in every direction, with 4885' Agua Fria dominating from about five miles to the southwest. But your views extend up to 50 miles, so most of the area mountains can be seen and enjoyed from here.

We cater primarily to tent & "open air" camping , campers on trucks and small, "teardrop" type trailers. However, we do have 10 nice, large sites that most RVs and rigs with larger trailers can use, though “bus length” ones will find the 5 mile long road in difficult but passable. In fact that road usually has enough ruts & natural "speed bumps", that you can travel 20 MPH at best, so allow 15-20 minutes for the scenic but slow drive in....... it is well worth the time!

There are NO HOOK-UPs, dump station, nor power available for trailers & RVs.  However we can provide drinking  & wash water. You MUST be self-contained! For those that do come here, you will find very private sites with excellent views.

For those looking for more "traditional" lodging, we also offer two very nice, but small, guest rooms now. These are a separate listing on HIPCAMP, under "ECO-RANCH GUEST ROOMS".

EVERY SITE is spacious and a good distance from others, unintentionally, but effectively: "SOCIAL DISTANCED"! Both Robert & Debbie are fully vaccinated against Covid. We will not require proof of vaccination, but do request that all guests who are not vaccinated, respect mainstream science & medicine and wear masks, or keep your distance.

There are five ways to camp here in five distinct areas around the property: The "Upper Campground Area", "Bus Stop Mesa", "The Far Side", "Social Distancing Plus" AND the "Guest Rooms". The "Upper Campground" area is closest to the toilets, but has smaller sites. "Bus Stop Mesa" is a long, thin mesa that stretches out into our 12 acre arroyo. There are six sites there.  "The Far Side" is just that, on the far side of the arroyo. There are seven sites there and five for large groups or RVs/trailers.  There is an "outhouse" that is a flush toilet and sink on the "far side". "Social Distancing Plus" are seven spots we created for maximum privacy. They are spaced about the fringes of the property, remote & have no WIFI, but also no neighbors!

Folks interested in the Guest Rooms and large group camping, including VERY large groups, will need to go the the HIPCAMP listings for the "Eco-Ranch Guest Rooms" & "Eco-Ranch Large Group Camping", as these are priced different than the regular campsites.

Sunrise at the Eco-Ranch is a spectacular event, made more quaint by the gentle crowing of our roosters, who sometimes think sunrise is arriving far earlier. You are a distance from them though! Sunset is the same. The campground has uninhibited views of both events and if you are lucky enough to be here during the 3-4 days of the full moon, moonrise is a once-in-a-lifetime event!

We offer a toilet/bath house/kitchen facility. In addition to the flush toilets, which are a rarity in area campgrounds, we installed an on demand hot water supply for the shower, so that you could enjoy a hot shower!  Also, on "the far side", we have just completed another flush toilet, shortening the walk to the toilet and giving you a total of three toilets in the campground. All the running water is potable.

The lighted kitchen features a two burner propane stove, full-sized double sink, small refrigerator, counter space, cookware & place settings, along with USB, 12 volt & 110 volt ac plugs with a counter to place your devices on while charging.

This is a 100% off-grid working poultry/goat/aquaponics ranch! We usually have fresh eggs, seasonal vegetables and even poultry meat available for you to purchase.

Roosters will crow & geese will honk. These sounds can carry, so be aware of that! Kids will love the fact that all our animals are tame and the barnyard is a wonderful "petting zoo" experience for them! Gardeners will love the greenhouse with its 4000 gallon aquaponics system. and year around, seasonal produce.

We provide limited electrical power (15 amps) from a small solar electric system in new bath house/kitchen structure, 100% off grid! However, you CANNOT run an RV refrigerator, hot plate, electric heat, or air conditioning. Medical devices like a CPAP machine can be used. If needed, we can provide an extension cord to connect to the main house system if the medical device exceeds the system capability.

Hikers can explore many miles of road, but must bear in mind that in Texas, ALL land is privately owned and you must be respectful of that at all times. We are also 3 miles from a spring-fed "swimming hole" that may be enjoyed, so long as you respect the land and pack out what you pack in.

The Big Bend Parks are about 25 miles from here. The McDonald Observatory is about 100 miles from here and the mysterious "Marfa Lights" about 80 miles from us....... but still close enough that some stray into view at times, depending on your alcohol intake.

As stated, this is also a working poultry & goat farm and we have to attend to our farm as our first priority. This requires our attention in the early morning and into the evening. We STRONGLY URGE CAMPERS TO ARRIVE BEFORE DARK!!!

However, we realize that many people have time management issues and have made some allowance for the rare late arrival. So if you plan on leaving home late and arriving here late, you will need to contact us for instructions. You will also need to select a site on arrival in the "upper campground", nearest the bath house, so you do not disturb other campers.

Our entire property is a NO FIREARMS ZONE. We DO NOT allow firearms (or fireworks) on the property and NO ONE may carry one on their person while on our property. (If you insist on having a firearm with you, just lock it IN YOUR VEHICLE when on the property!!!!)

Your great reviews have placed us as "finalists" in the rankings for "The Best Campground In Texas" for the last two years running!  OUTSIDE MAGAZINE recently ranked us the BEST HIPCAMP CAMPGROUND (May 2021) near Big Bend National Park as well!

We had an amazing experience camping on Robert's land at the Eco-ranch. The campsites offer solitude and peace, the sunrise, the sunset, and the night sky are incredibly beautiful, and the eco-sensitive, off-the-grid, low-consumption living efforts of Robert and Debbie are truly inspiring.

We loved having the use of a communal kitchen, which ensured that we could have hot breakfasts and dinners, without having to light up our camping stove or worrying about ice in the cooler. The bathrooms are great as well. Robert and Debbie are very hospitable and concerned about the well-being of their guests.
This was far better than the crowded campgrounds we saw in the Big Bend National park since there were few other campers and everything felt very dispersed.

To top it all, meeting Robert and Debbie and seeing their solar energy system, rainwater harvesting efforts, and alternative recycling-based architectural techniques was a real treat. Definitely recommend this place if you are traveling to the National Park and/or the State park!

Camping here was one of the most memorable travel experiences of my life. By some fluke I was the only camper scheduled to stay, so I camped alone across the arroyo from the ranch. I started a campfire and watched the sunset, and then stared up at the stars in the peaceful desert night, even from my tent with the rain fly off. In the early morning I was grateful for the rooster crow in the distance because I also got to see the sunrise. I enjoyed meeting the delightful hosts and hearing about their experiences. Will definitely be back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Robert and Debbie’s Eco-Ranch. It is a truly unique spot and a wonderful way to experience the area. The sunsets and sunrises were just awesome. We are very happy we choose to stay here while exploring Big Bend area. Make sure to read and follow Robert’s directions. Take your time and enjoy the scenery and solitude.

Wonderful secluded site with great amenities. Many well-spaced campsites to choose from, close to the main house or further out if you want more privacy. It was so nice to be able to tent camp under the stars with plenty of room to ourselves while also having access to an outdoor kitchen, bathroom, drinking water, and farm fresh eggs. The place was easy to find with Robert & Debbie’s instructions, but it really is off the beaten path so be careful not to get lost! The views and peace & quiet out there are well worth the short drive through the desert, you won’t be disappointed staying here!!

We really enjoyed our stay under the milky way, and amidst vast views of the desert, sunrise, and sunset. Out stay was comfortable with the nearby toilets and kitchen access, and was also quiet and intimate. This is definitely a project full of passion and we appreciated the tour of the greenhouse and animal pen, as well as Robert sharing his knowledge and experience.
The drive into the campsite was a fun off road experience and with the provided directions, and given there is no rain, was very easy to navigate. Would highly recommend!

Our family had a great stay! The kids loved all the animals. Robert showed us the garden. Debbie let the kids help feed the animals too. The farm fresh eggs were a nice meal.
The bathroom and kitchen setup are very nice as well. It was great to have in such a remote area. It’s so remote there is no cell service. It was lovely to unplug for a couple days.
It does get very windy. We were unable to set up our tent due to the wind (storm fronts kept coming near). Thankfully, we have a big SUV and were able to camp in there while at the site.
The night skies are amazing and the views from the site incredible!
Robert was very helpful when we got turned around.
We really enjoyed getting to know Robert and Debbie.
If we are in the area again, we will camp here! We highly recommend Eco Ranch!
