Beauty and history on the farm
Part of our group stayed in the cottage and the rest stayed in a camper next to the cottage. Currie's large property is surrounded by lovely farmland. We enjoyed the comings and goings of the lambs, goats, hens and Brahma cattle, watched the sun set from the porch, and sat around a fire ring in the yard. The cottage was comfortable and served all our needs. The land has been in the family since the early 18th century; Bill filled us in on some of the fascinating history of the place. It was an extraordinary experience-- highly recommended.
Please look no further! Our stay was just amazing! A great place, filled with animals, beauty and peace. Didn’t catch a fish, but enjoyed a sunny afternoon at the pond. The house feels very spacious, was spick & span. Great shower, WiFi, cozy room, fully equipped kitchen. Do try the delicious sausages and enjoy your time on the porch!
Our stay at stephens branch cottage
This is a nice quiet spot to enjoy an off the beaten path part of South Carolina. Small rustic farmhouse on a lightly traveled road. There are ample opportunities to interact with animals including horses, cows, roosters and ducks. We enjoyed our stay and hope to return for another visit in the future.
The cottage and surroundings were perfect and recalled for me my childhood on a small farm.—Roosters crowing, horses in pasture, hammock on a porch and good conversation with the artist in residence. We brought our mountain bikes and explored the back roads and even took a dip in the pond. For us it was perfectly situated for a drive to the coast and Brookgreen gardens. I hope to return!
What an incredible find!
Stephen’s Branch Farm Cottage gets our highest recommendation. If you are interested enough in this property to be reading this you are in luck . You have found a hidden gem; you needn’t look any further.
We stumbled upon this property while trying to find a weekend getaway for our family. It was a week before Christmas and our two boys were out of school. We had sold our RV and we didn’t have a tent. We live in Mount Pleasant and just wanted to get away for two nights. This place looked great. No tent or RV required and only 1.5 hours from Mount Pleasant. It felt like an adventure from the start. We took backroads we were unfamiliar with and it was fun just taking in the scenery and passing through the occasional small town. The cottage is down a quiet country road that you would otherwise never have a reason to travel down. It was built in the 1920’s and other than the required modernization it hasn’t changed much. We felt like we just stepped off the treadmill and went back in time to a much simpler period. There is no TV and no internet. Cell phone coverage for Verizon was spotty. But there are games and a gas furnace to sit in front of while you get to know your family better. The furniture is simple and functional. The walls are true wooden slats and real wainscoting with a fresh coat of paint. It has a tin roof so you can hear to the rain better. The light insulation forces you to snuggle up next to each other and allows you to here the coyotes howling in the distance. There is a fully functional kitchen and a fire pit out front to cook steaks and marshmallows on. Surrounding the cottage on one side is a horse pasture and behind the cottage is a cow pasture with beautiful brahman cows and a majestic bull.
Currie and her father Bill were quick to welcome us and make us feel right at home. Bubba the bull dog was quick to make friends with our Giant Schnauzer and he often checked in on us. We felt like part of the family! Bill lives just down the driveway about a 1/4 mile and if you really need the internet you can sit on his steps and use the WiFi.
A short walk past Bill’s house is the fishing pond. Huey, Dewey, and Louie were there to welcome us and made sure we knew who’s pond it was (they are the three resident ducks and they will keep you entertained). Our boys ( 7 and 10) had a blast fishing and playing around the pond. This is also where you can park an RV. There is a fire pit and a gas stove for cooking all the fish you might catch (we struck out). Walking past the pond you can find trails to explore in all directions. We had a great time wandering for hours and getting lost in the deep woods. This is a huge property that has been in the family for generations. There is so much to do and explore that we felt like we hardly scratched the surface. Bill was also telling us about a kayak put in on a river that would take you to Georgetown if you were so inclined!
I know we will be back for a quick getaway when we need a break from city life. If this sounds like what you are looking for and the cottage is available I wouldn’t hesitate to book it. You will not be disappointed!
