There are some hiking paths along the Edisto River, when the river is not extremely out of its banks. Lots of black water and wildlife views, bank fishing or canoeing and an aged forest with beautiful hardwood and Cypress. Check us out on Instagram @swampcastlecampground

Jeff was an amazing and friendliest host! It’s beautiful being right next to the pond too. We would advise if you have a large class A or are not good at backing up a trailer/camper, maybe consider elsewhere.

Really beautiful property and kind host! The only negative thing to say is that a neighbor played loud music until almost 2am, but that’s not in the host’s control!

Response from Jeff, the Host, on August 17th, 2021

Sorry about the Neibor and the music. I was out of town this weekend and a friend was hosting for me. I normally only use the sand bar location as a recreational area for everyone to swim and hang out. You were the first guest to actually camp here and I am sorry for the neighbors music! Sincerely! Jeff

Amazing host, will definitely visit again. Enjoyed the trail to the lake with a sandy shady spot for the kids to play and fish.

I was already excited about this trip when I saw Jeff offered native plant tours of the property, but even those high expectations were really blown away with this trip. Jeff's property is remote, filled with wildlife, and large enough to accomodate multiple campers without feeling crowded. Jeff himself is a very kind and accomodating man, willing to share a lot about the property and its wildlife and the nearby area. I really couldn't find anything negative to say about the stay, and I think Jeff is only going to improve the property and the options for campers over time. I will definitely go back!

These kinds of little, beautiful trips are what make things like HipCamp worthwhile. I highly recommend this to anyone in the area.

Jeff is one of the most hospitable and genuine folks you'll ever meet! A good ol' boy with a heart of gold! From the time we arrived until we left, we felt as welcomed as family. We had such a wonderful time as I'm sure anyone will! In addition to the warmth and welcoming, the property here is incredibly unique. Even for South Carolina lowcountry locals like us found it to be unparalleled. While there can be some road noise from the distance, overall, you will fall in love with the mysterious-ness of this backwoods swamp! It is truly idyllic! Please do not forget the mosquito spray! You will be very unhappy if you do. Also, take the tea tour! Even our sullen, 'everything is lame' attitude teens enjoyed the tour. Thank Jeff! We will be back!

Jeff was the most kind, friendly and attentive host for our group of 10! He made us feel SO welcome and offered to help us in any way he could, including accommodating my handicapped friend and bringing us items we didn't have. His property is beautiful and exactly what we wanted- scenic, remote, and primitive! The highlight of our trip was the walking tour he gave us down to the Edisto river and all the interesting information he provided us. Don't make the same mistake we did-- get down to the river and hang out there well before 7pm! We had an absolutely perfect stay for my 35th birthday and will most certainly be back again soon!
