Our property is located in the heart of the boreal forest with plenty of birds, trees, peace and quiet. We have a mix of open spaces, walking trails, wetland discovery zones and dense forest, both on site and surrounding our land. We are near good fishing and swimming lakes and close to the Athabasca and Freeman Rivers. Our property is rated Class II on the Alberta Dark Skies Map. We welcome all campers, whether you are a newbie or a seasoned explorer of all outdoor places and spaces. At The River is a boutique riverside nature retreat nestled on a 100-acre private nature sanctuary in wild Alberta, just 1.5 hours northwest of Edmonton. With private access to the Freeman River just 30 metres from the cabin, you'll enjoy your own peaceful stretch of riverfront complete with a natural swimming hole, a stone and pebble shoreline, and a sandy island in the middle of the river. Spend your days swimming, floating the current, exploring the shoreline, or simply relaxing by the water. As evening falls, gather around the riverside campfire (firewood provided!) and soak in the golden sunset before a sky full of stars and if you're lucky, northern lights. Wake up to the sound of the river, birdsong, and the wind moving through the trees. Beyond the river, explore forest trails, wetlands, scenic viewpoints, and abundant wildlife. Deer, beavers, bald eagles, owls, and countless songbirds are common visitors, while moose, bears, coyotes, cougars and other native wildlife also call this sanctuary home. The cozy cabin comfortably sleeps up to four adults and features one king bedroom, one queen bedroom, a fireplace, propane stove, and a private outdoor washhouse with a hot shower, sink, and toilet. 2 toddler mattress are available upon request. Although our family home is located approximately 300 metres away on the hill, the cabin enjoys its own peaceful riverside setting immersed in nature. Explore the Area While the sanctuary offers plenty to explore, you'll also find several local gems just a short drive away. Schuman Lake (10 minutes) – A peaceful, crystal-clear lake perfect for swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing, and rainbow trout fishing. With only non-motorized watercraft permitted, it's one of the area's most tranquil destinations. Goose Lake (15 minutes) – Enjoy a sandy beach, boating, swimming, walking trails, picnic areas, and excellent fishing opportunities for northern pike and yellow perch. Wild Violet Acres (15 minutes) – Browse a charming organic farm store featuring fresh produce, homemade bread, local meats, artisan foods, and specialty groceries. Second year visiting and more beautiful than ever! Dale & Colleen have done some upgrades and finished one of the walkways across our favourite pond. Wonderfully peaceful, love the cats and the cleanliness is fantastic. The beavers return has created a special ecosystem and it was joyful to experience.

Nice greeting and info upon arrival. Easy directions and property location. Cabin feels private and is a nice distance from other property. The river is so close you can hear it constantly. Beautiful view. Quiet and peaceful. Lots of firewood, and the firepit is large and is easy to get going. A good selection of seating options. Has a rustic feel, but still comfortable. The wash-house with shower and toilet, was extremely clean and well maintained. Barrhead is close enough, but Fort Assi' is only 10 mins away. A solid little selection of small town amenities. I would definitely come back. The stars at night were mind-blowing, and even saw the northern lights for a brief time. Well maintained property. Thanks for having us. Cheers till next time.

My husband and I were looking forward to a nice little break from the city and this was the perfect place to relax and unwind. Our only regret is that we did not stay long enough! Stayed in the Rest Nest and it was so comfortable and had everything one could need. Loved the hot tub and the lovely nature that surrounded us. Dale and Colleen were wonderful hosts and Sully the cat was great company! We will definitely be back.

I have used HipCamp a few times now but this trip was intended to be something special. A trip for me and my two young boys while my Mrs and daughter went on their beach holiday. We planned to go fishing and then to a campsite to overnight and hopefully see the stars and make some core memories. This lived up to it and more. First to the location. This is located in the Boreal forest and when I say in I mean right inside of it. Besides the drive there being breath taking (we saw a bear on the side of the road and loads of wildlife) the drive into the site was fantastic. There is a beautiful shared space for camp fires right next to the hot tub and shower areas as you arrive. Our host Dale and his wife were fantastic. They showed us to the cabin which looked like something out of a movie. It was right next to a scenic pond. We brought some of the fish we caught and Dale provided us with some plates and cutlery and helped us with some water. As we got settled in and finished dinner we had a lovely walk around the site and the boys came across a mink that had a run in with the cat. They had their own little animal rescue experience and returned it to the wild. That night we were expecting rain and so we knew we wouldn’t see any stars which was disappointing given how dark it was. We were instead blessed with a lightning and thunder show which we took in from the comfort of the hot tub. All in all we had an amazing experience. Hoping to return fall/winter

Our stay at Nature Alive Adventures was absolutely wonderful. The property is beautiful and peaceful, with an abundance of wildlife that made every day feel like a true nature experience. Whether relaxing on the grounds or simply enjoying the scenery, there was always something to appreciate. The hot tub was fantastic, and the shower facilities were spotless, modern, and very well maintained. After a day of exploring, it was the perfect place to unwind. Our cabin was beautifully appointed, cozy, and thoughtfully equipped. The bed was exceptionally comfortable—one of the best sleeps we've had while traveling. What truly made the experience special were the hosts, Dale and Colleen. They were warm, welcoming, and genuinely cared about ensuring guests had a memorable stay. We had the best stay here. Dale was an amazing host who always made sure we had everything and even offered to help plow us out if we got stuck on our way out. The cabin is beautiful, the stove is warm, and our nature walks were awesome. We even got to snuggle Sully the cat during our stay. We will definitely be back!

It was the perfect little getaway. Charming and clean cabin, all warm and toasty upon our arrival and throughout. The grounds had various paths to walk along and explore and the hot tub and fire pit rounded out the stay with relaxation and comfort. Loved it and will be back again!

Our stay at this cabin was absolutely wonderful! 😍The place felt so cozy and welcoming — everything was spotless and thoughtfully prepared. You can tell how much love and care went into every little detail.🥹😍 The nature around is stunning, and we truly enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. The host was incredibly kind and made us feel right at home. We were especially touched by the little treats — the marshmallows and cookies were such a sweet surprise (and so delicious!). My friend & I had an amazing time at Dale & Colleen's. They are wonderful hosts - friendly, helpful and there were so many more great amenities than we expected or read about. The property is expansive and is well maintained. Our cabin and washroom was so clean and there were many added touches such as body wash, soap and towels. The cats were very friendly and sweet - we loved them! Beds were very comfortable and cozy. Too many awesome things to list!! We'll be back again without a doubt.

I loved our stay at the log cabin. It was cozy. Comforting. Peaceful and quiet. The communal hot tub served us well after a day of driving and hiking. The washroom was VERY clean. Loved the trails, the beaver dam and Sully - the little cat that followed us around on the trails and kept us company. If you are looking for a quick getaway from the city life or hoping to relax and chill for a week surrounded by the peace of the forest, then this is your place. Cook a meal on the propane stove or wood fire pit, read a book or simple spend an evening watching the beavers build their dam. I loved how welcoming Dave, and his wife was. Glad they are building an external sink and a communal kitchen to welcome longer stays and bigger groups. We would definitely go back.

My bestfriend and I booked this retreat for a peaceful gateway and it was a huge success! The land is beautiful, sleeping in the cabin is a unique stay. We loved the experience since it offered us the best of both worlds: spending time in nature with the incredible sound of trees and fire, while enjoying the comfort of a cozy bed, a functional washroom/ shower, and a hot tub to relax. We were able to cook our food on a stovetop, and everything we needed was available. Being isolated does give a unique feel to the environment and sounds around you, I really recommend it! Dale was beyond welcoming and helpful during our stay, we learned lots from him and it was nice to have company! - A couple of things to keep in mind: the last 10 minutes of the drive towards the property may be a bumpy road because of the rocks - just keep on going; you’re on the right track! In terms of cellular service, we were able to send a couple of texts in two specific spots that Dale has generously offered to show us, but I recommend downloading your offline maps before arriving and making sure your car’s GPS is up to date just in case. If you have a relatively new/ updated iPhone, you’re able to send messages through a Satellite connection. I’m certain you’d enjoy your relaxing stay on this beautiful land!

I booked a 2 night stay with my family in the Rest Nest Cabin and fell in love with this whole property. The surrounding nature is so peaceful and beautiful. Best part was the hot tub when you are so tired that's what you need. The owners are amazing who will make sure you have the best time. Full of great recommendations for the area. Definitely worth checking out these Cabins for comfy lodging or a great camp spot on this large property. Will definitely book again with our large group of friends next time.
