Pitch your tent near the private lake free (mostly) from the sound of traffic. There is water sports including, a fishing boat, canoe, kayak, as well as hiking trails in the forest. No fishing license is required as this is a private lake. Life jackets are required for everyone on a boat, canoe or kayak. There is a "bent Tree" in the forest, that may have been created by the Indians a long time ago.  There is a cabin with a flush toilet and an outdoor kitchen with a wood fired pizza oven for cooking. There is a picnic table and fire ring at each campsite. We plan to add a tipi as a fifth campsite this year.

This campground is located on the Flying J Farm, a sustainable farm where we practice regenerative agriculture growing grass-fed, grass-finished beef, maple syrup, and vegetables, chemical free, no antibiotics, and no hormones. The proprietor is Richard Jensen, a former pilot, professor, writer, and editor, now enjoying retirement as a farmer. Farm products are available to campers for purchase.

The land is described as "250 acres of rolling hills with a lake, a pond and three streams." The road to the campsite runs through pastures so campers may need to open AND CLOSE gates so the cows don't get out, on your way to the campsite. The camping area is located near our developing perennial food forest where we have started fruit trees, nut trees, and berries. A garden of annuals including herbs and flowers is located near the area as well. There is an abundance of wildlife including, deer, water birds, song birds, hawks, rabbits, squirrels, raccoons,  turkeys, coyotes, and owls.

For campers we offer a 10 percent discount on all of our organically grown farm products including grass-fed beef, maple syrup, and vegies. Beef includes grilling steaks, hamburger patties, hot dogs, and brats.

New in July, blackberry season has started. Campers are welcome to help themselves to wild blackberries at the edges of the woods and on trails through the woods.

"RANGER TALK". Do you attend the ranger talk when you go to National Parks? You can request an educational experience while you are camping at the Flying J Farm. Farmer Richard Jensen is pleased to offer a short talk and discussion about finding health through food, protecting the environment, and alternative energy as practiced at our farm. Just ask for it in your message while booking your stay, it is free.

Nearby, actually adjacent to the farm, is the Vineyard and Winery at Otter Creek. The chalet is open on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Please let us know via message what time you will arrive and check in at the farmhouse when you arrive. You will be escorted to your campsite.

NEW: Because of demand this month, I have added a fifth campsite. This one is in the woods on the lake but is further from the restroom, 350 steps. It will be open when it is fairly dry, closed when wet, but it is the nicest site here. I have added Site 6 which is in the woods on top of a hill, You can sort of see the water.

Richard was very friendly and helpful. He had firewood available for purchase and gave a lot for the price. The farm, and lake view from campsite 5 was beautiful and i’ll be sure to be back.

Such a great place to camp! We had a lot fun here. It was beautiful and the perfect weekend getaway for my boyfriend and I. I loved that there were kayaks and a row boat available. And Richard was great. Very easy to get ahold of him . We even bought some meat and syrup from him as well as more firewood when we got low. We will definitely be back again. Thank you Richard!!!

Great spot tucked way back down a gravel road. Good trail around the lake and the flexibility to car camp or pack in a little bit. It served as a great place to test some new gear without being too far from my vehicle in the event the gear failed (fortunately it didn’t). I didn’t use the kayaks/canoes, but caught a bass from the shore, which definitely adds to the location. I was the only one on the property when I stayed, but I could see how you might want to be selective with which camp site you choose if there are others out. Access to water and an indoor toilet wasn’t all bad either! All in all a nice spot. Would definitely return.

We had a group of nine girls between 2 sites. Richard helped us with anything we asked and more! He showed us to our campsite, sold us firewood, told us about the trails, and helped us see the cows up close! Beautiful spot to get away from Columbus. Highly recommend staying in October!

We were looking for a rustic and semi-secluded camping experience and Lake Forest Camping aka Flying J Farm delivered.

Richard was excellent to work with and a most gracious host. The cabin that houses the bathroom and shower is conveniently located and runs on solar power.

Overall, it was a great experience and we plan to go back. Next time we will buy some of their meat and maple syrup to enjoy at the camp site.
