Perfect camping spot
Rusty’s Retreat was the perfect getaway. The owners are very kind and the animals love visitors. Meeting the barn cats, Rusty, and Lexi the small horse was like walking into a children’s book. Beyond that, there are beautiful views and a sense of peace at Rusty’s Retreat. We look forward to returning.
Jay and Heather were fantastic hosts. They take a lot of pride in making this a great place to stay, and it shows! Campsite #1 was nice and secluded, yet still easily accessible for a car load out. Would definitely stay again.
Rusty's Retreat was exactly what we were looking for: Secluded, primitive-style camping spots to escape the day to day hustle and bustle. The host, Jay, is extremely helpful and friendly. We got a tour of the property, met good ol' Rusty, and bought some fresh eggs to cook over the fire. We also chose to buy more firewood from Jay and he kindly brought some down right away. We will definitely be returning to meet up with our friends here again! Thanks, Jay!
Perfect country camping
We spent 2 nights at Rusty's Retreat riverside, Site 1. Fire ring, grate, and chairs were ready to go. The site delivery of firewood was an appreciated amenity. We were greeted by the host Jay and did a tour of the property. We got to meet all of the animals - dogs (we fell in love with them), steer, turkey, chickens, honey bees and the barn kitties with a special mention of Poly the sweetest kitty host and Rusty the sweetest cow. Along with the ability to purchase firewood, we also purchased fresh eggs and honey. The nights were safe and quiet with hooting owls. It was a tremendous weekend of relaxation and country living. We spent our last hour with the host and the pups (in their fenced section). Jay sent us home with tomatoes and peppers for parting gifts. Truly a perfect weekend of tent camping!
Best night ever
This was the most amazing experience in my life. My family and I was traveling from NYC and we stopped in Ohio for a few nights before heading to Detroit then back home. On our last night we decided to camp out and might I say we should of stayed a few more days. The host were so friendly and generous they took hospitality to another level. My daughter loved the dogs and my wife loved the paddle boat. We was in a bit of a rush so we couldn’t kayak unfortunately. It was our first night ever camping but we was scared or bothered by the beautiful sounds of nature sit was calming. The mosquitoes were killing me lol, I sprayed my whole body with repealing spray except ny face and guess where they went for. Although the outside was amazing next time I’m in town I’m staying at rusty’s loft. This amazing loft was built by the owner and a few friends, this beautiful structure is what really caught my attention.
Very kind folks, very welcoming, helpful and some nice secluded camping spots if your looking. Loved the time, Rusty the cow was to sweet, he likes to be fed grass😁shower for $5, was really nice to have that available. Wil return in the future! Thank you Jay
Jay was a great host. He gave us a great tour of his property and had all the hookups we needed. I was looking for a convenient location between NY and chicago and his was perfect. Looking forward to going back!
