The Mossy Stones site is in the front wooded area of the farm and has been referred to by one of our first campers as a "sunken living room in the forest".

It offers privacy yet easy access and is the only site within the forests on the farm.

A stone fire ring, a unique metal table, cushioned chairs, a hammock and some wood for your first fire will be waiting for you. You can park at the pull off and walk down over the exposed mossy bedrock into your site. While you are only a few yards from your vehicle you will feel like you've stepped into your own forest hideaway. This small site is great for a couple or a few friends tent camping together.  It is an easy walk up through the mushroom forest to the outhouse.

Walk up the gravel driveway or through the mushroom forest to the main field check out our market garden. Depending on the season you will see tulips, beets and onions sprouting, tomatoes climbing up their trellis, melons soaking up the sun or corn and sunflowers waving in the wind. The bees from our colorful hives will be busy pollinating the crops and gathering nectar.

Be sure to check out our two chicken coops.  Our hens and roosters play an important role in the sustainable agricultural practices we use on the farm. Our lovely ladies provide us with delicious and colorful eggs each day. Your breakfast at the farm can't get any fresher... sunny side up eggs dripping yolk onto fresh local bread, fresh melons and berries still warm from the sun, sweet honey and local milk in your coffee. A true farm to table meal is possible year round in our beautiful valley! Most weekends we offer a breakfast basket filled with goodies produced on our farm or by other local growers.

The back of our property is also wooded. If you are quiet you are certain to see birds, squirrels, chipmunks, turkey and deer as you walk along the creek and explore the mossy rocks and tiny waterfalls. If you follow the marked bushwack trail you'll be guided over fallen trees and through breaks in historic stone walls, then across the creek and up the hill you will come out onto the O&W Rail Trail. This 27 mile trail is perfect for hiking, biking and strolling. In some segments it is smoothly paved and others it is gravel. From this trail you can access multiple parks, libraries and museums if you are looking for a long hike or ride.

We are centrally located between Kingston, Kerhonkson, Woodstock and New Paltz and all are about a scenic 20 minutes drive. The NYS Thruway is less than 10 minutes away if you are travelling through.

The Rondout Valley is home to multiple breweries, amazing restaurants, luxurious spas, places to kayak, fish, swim, rock climb... or you could spend your entire visit at the farm reading a good book and enjoying beautiful sunsets.

PLEASE NOTE:

-We are a working farm that uses sustainable organic methods.  There are bugs (ants, ticks, bees, mosquitos, etc) and areas with long grass.  We keep the grass at the campsites short but you will have long grass around you.  That long grass is home to numerous kinds of birds that only live in that type of habitat.  Poison ivy is also possible when out in nature, we do NOT spray any chemicals on ANY of our land.

-The sites are within earshot to the chicken coops, we DO have roosters and you WILL hear them.

-There are wild animals around the farm.  You should store away all food and garbage when you are not at the campsite.  We would like to keep them cautious of humans and not a nuisance!

-On holiday weekends we do have a minimum night stay.

Stony Rose Farms is really beautiful. The Mossy Stones site is tucked in a wooded area near the front of the farm. The fire pit is against a wall which is great because smoke is controlled upward and the heat can only go towards you. The hammock they installed is super comfortable. Would recommend this as an easy access car camping space for 2-4 people. If I had a larger group of more than 4 people I would recommend one of the other sites further back at Stony Rose Farms.

This was a great campsite for our first full family trip. We were only about 25 yards from the car, which is good for all the gear needed for little kids. Kara had firewood waiting for us and the trees provided good cover from the morning sun and the rain (still use your rainfly!!). The kids loved the hammock and the eggs were fantastic. I was worried with a name like "mossy stones" that the kids would be slipping left and right, but the stones are just a stone wall along the side of the campsite. The campground is the forest floor, nothing dangerous.

My friends and I loved our time at Mossy Stones at Stony Rose Farms! There was enough room for all of our tents (4), a dining area (picnic table), and space to walk around on our site as well as the farm. We appreciated the outhouse accessibility, privacy, and communication from the host! We felt taken care if we needed Kara! Thank you for a great site.

Our stay at Mossy Stones was exactly what we were looking for! Much more charm than camping at a State campground. Very private, woody site but steps from the car. The owner was very friendly and attentive. The property was well maintained. You have to like waking up to cock a doodle do's from the roosters! You do also hear cars on the busy road in front of the site but it didn't bother us. We also were anxious about a neighboring site with dogs off the leash. We were disappointed that the trail to the O & A Rail Trail behind the campground was a bush-wack & not passable. The positives far outweighed the negative for us.

Thanks for the heads up about the site with the dog off leash. I have contacted them about that as it was a concern of mine as well.

This is a great little camping spot! Very wooded, perfect for hammocks, fire pit is great. Kara was a great host, very responsive. We got a breakfast basket with bread, honey, eggs, and strawberries that were all delicious. The site is pretty remote so we didn't have cell service unless we walked up the hill, which is convenient as that's where the outhouse is as well. Overall a great camping spot and we would definitely go back!

Our stay at Stoney Rose Farms was delightful! The Mossy Stones site is very private and beautiful. It even rained most of the time we were there but we still had a relaxing time. I have already recommended to people I know :)

Delightful campsite on farm grounds, set back from the driveway down a short descending path. I loved the roosters, the ample tree cover, the stone wall border & "hearth" for the fire, the hammock, the vintage table (perfect for one, it's small), walking the grounds, and of course the friendly & attentive host Kara. It must be noted, there is pretty constant traffic noise from nearby Rte 209.

I look forward to coming back -- my trip was derailed by heavy rain & Kara was able to secure me a free future night's stay!

P.S. The farm-fresh eggs ($6) were a lovely "souvenir!"

We just came back from camping at Mossy Stones! It is such a great site! There is plenty of room and besides the occasional car going by to the main farm, you get the awesome feeling that no one else is around. You can park your car by the site and there is a short (very short) path into the area. We loved the fire pit up against the mossy rocks. The hammock is also super comfy, and looking up into the trees from it was our daughter’s fav thing to do. The tree coverage is great, so it is nice and shady. The outhouse is clean and perfectly good for what needs to get done! Kara and her family are so sweet and truly want to make sure you feel welcome. She is very responsive and helpful! We can’t wait to come back here in the fall!!!
