We had a lovely chill stay, which wonderfully coincided with the 2022 season opening of the Rail-to-trail cafe. We had cob oven pizza for lunch - delicious!
It was a nice walk up to the Rosendale Trestle- we were aiming for relaxed rather than serious biking /hiking, but those options were available too.

I found a spot for my hammock and had an amazing nap to the background sounds of cafe murmur, chanting vocals, passing cyclists. In the morning there was even the amazing sound of a solo bass voice practicing kirtan on the cafe stage. I believe he was a carpenter helping out with some project or other, but the entire experience felt very organic and natural. I instantly wanted to start chanting, but zoned out in my camp chair with a dog on my lap instead.

There was a visiting nighttime fox(?) which screamed on the ridge for quite some time, an eerie thing which had our dogs doing their own call and response. I apologized to our camp neighbors, but they seemed pretty relaxed about it.

I would like to note the awesome outhouse. I don’t need much when I’m camping, but having this amenity was much appreciated.

It was a pleasant overnight. We camped in our truck in a field next to Lot A. The porta potty was very clean and had toilet paper. It’s up a short hill somewhat close to the house. The water was in the sink at the outdoor cafe (not open yet). There were no other campers around.

The meadow is really pretty and the woods around are fun to explore. We were there in early season so just one other tent in the meadow. There are a number of fire pits so I imagine it gets crowded during peak season. Accessible water spout, and a fire pit were all we needed to be happy and the composting toilet was a bonus. we had a great time. Would definitely come back in an off season time. Parking lot is very close to meadow so it’s easy to go back and forth if you need things from your car.

Wow, what a unique campsite! It is part of a farm that has so many amazing things to offer. We were there early April so the season hadn't kicked off yet, but it looks like there is usually a space for food (pizza ovens, food truck), there is a ton of space to hike in the area, and super cool buildings supporting the arts and healing. Also super close to New Paltz, which we LOVE!

The good: Was quiet this time of year, camp neighbors were visible-yet-distant, and car was close by if needed. Host made an effort to communicate up front about what they thought was important.

Room for improvement: I think the amenities listed here are seasonal as there was no potable water, the trash was full and marauded by animals, and the outhouse was overdue for maintenance. Camp sites do not have equal treatment either— only one site had a bench and tent platform while the other didn't have anything. Lastly, you are within 50 feet of a public trail with constant traffic (cyclists, joggers, dog walkers), which may befuddle those who sought unadulterated nature.

Overall: We had a nice stay and were undeterred by the difference in how it was versus how it was advertised. With a little effort to provision each site equally and communication that the amenities listed are not actually available, that would have gone a long way for us.
