The location is very nice. Despite what other reviews say, I found it very easy to find and navigate to. Rebecca was very responsive and friendly.
The site itself has a nice, flat area for putting up tents, and is located on a pretty creek. Plenty of morning shade as well, which is good for summer camping.
The geese and pig were fun for the kids to be able to look at, and the fire pit / table chairs area was good for eating and relaxing.
A perfect site to camp out! Had the entire site to ourselves and so it was serene and quiet. At night we were able to see a clear night sky full of stars (even saw some shooting stars).
Would definitely recommend staying here.
We could not access the site
This was a nightmare. My husband and I traveled 10 hours from Maine only to find a very narrow overgrown driveway hidden from view of the road. The address on the mailbox was barely visible as well. I tried to contact the host and got no response. We were not about to attempt driving through so narrow and outrageously overgrown a space with our 4 runner and a 21 foot RV and not knowing if we would even be able to turn around.
Now we are trying to be reimbursed for what we were charged and never being able to utilize.. Since our report for reimbursement the "host" raised the rate an extra ten dollars! I belong to several RV forums, unless I am fully reimbursed there is not going to be anything good I can say about this host or for Hipcamp.com.
A nightmare non-stay.
We drove 10.5 hours from Ellsworth, Maine to Page Forest. Granted, we were pretty exhausted from a stressful congested bumper to bumper drive that began around 10 miles north of Kittery, ME and and didn't let up until we cleared Boston. That may explain in part why we passed right by the turnoff into Page Forest. However, even if it was the middle of the day and we were fully alert, there was no signage or advance notice that we were approaching the drive in. So, we ended up driving about 1 mile past the site on a winding road before we were able to turn around. On the way back we crept along until we found the address on a country type mailbox. Much to our dismay, the road leading in was WAY to narrow to accommodate our 4Runner/21 foot RV.
My wife attempted to contact the owner as we passed the place for the 2nd time. She was not able to reach anyone nor was she able to leave a message.
Deep twilight was now upon us. There was no place to turn around and besides fatigue was really taking over at this point in time.
We decided to head for Lancaster, PA - our home. This was not a pleasant prospect since that added and additional 4 hour onto our drive.
Before we made reservations here, the owner had assured my wife that access to the property was not a problem. I have 30 years experience towing RV's. I was not about to take a chance swinging into this narrow space where I had no clue even if I would be able to turn around.
We have asked HipCamp to refund our money.
I arrived late and it was very dark. I wondered if I was in the correct place, as there was nothing to indicate that was other than the directions sent to me. A welcome sign or something would have been nice.
Rebecca was lovely and very welcoming by allowed us our privacy. Our daughter loved the animals and the stream that flows through the site. Very simple set up with some lawn furniture and a toilet in a tent. Was great for our two night stay!
I texted the host my ETA when I was within 30 minutes and received a confirmation. The driveway entrance is narrow and the rubbish was out for pick-up, so taking a left into the driveway was easiest. There was a grassy area where I was able to U-turn, so no backing up necessary. I was thankful. It was quiet and convenient. I didn't meet the hosts but I arrived just as it was getting dark. It felt safe and cozy. Thank you.
