Cool camping site. I think proximity to attractions warrants the price. We camped in our vehicle on site two close to the river not far from the porter potty. The river sound drowns out any highway noise. But you want to bring something to block passing lights in the general direction of towards the river.
Ideal location in the adirondacks
John's campsite is in an ideal location to not far from Lake Placid and a short drive to many hikes in the High Peaks Wilderness Area. The river level was too low for kayaking or paddle boarding when we were there, but refreshing and peaceful to listen to at night. There are several sites on the property so expect to see other guests.
High peaks heaven
This campsite was AWESOME. John has 5 sites available right along the Ausable River (2 of them right on the beach). We opted for site #1 in the woods because it had the most space and we had a big set-up for a 3-night stay. John was an amazing host. He gave us a lot of info about hikes we were interested in and even offered us a ride! Our dog was super happy to make friends with his dog as well. Having firewood available on site is a plus and you really can’t beat the location! I definitely recommend this site and can’t wait to come back!
Gorgeous view with easy access to the river. John was an excellent host and gave us a few pointers on nearby hikes. Clean sites and the forewood was a huge plus. Looking forward to coming back!
Excellent site under trees on river
Excellent site, set on river bank under trees. Tight to back camper into, but I managed, and several great tent sites too. Firewood available, and toilet was clean and new.
John’s campsite was a wonderful getaway, positioned only minutes away from multiple hiking trails and a spacious nature reserve on the water. John is a gracious host who provides a friendly welcome as well as free firewood. The site was clean and quiet, and there were many attractions nearby to explore during the day.
