Cool nature, cool hosts
Seriously had a rootin tootin time. One of the owners, Greg, showed us around when we arrived. He took us down to their sweet spot on Esopus Creek, where we later enjoyed a *brisk* swim. The trails are well-maintained with some signs and fallen trees delineating areas. Some areas are steep, but knotted ropes and a walking stick will help. We were the only guests, but the other two campsites are a good distance from each other to allow for privacy and little noise from site to site. Saw a healthy variety of mushrooms, wild flowers, a little baby snake, a couple salamander-type guys and heard owls hollering at each other across the forest. Compost loo was private and well set-up. Greg was very real and the property shows his family’s personal love and respect for the land, for self-sufficiency and keeping the property natural. Only 20 minutes from Overlook Head trail and many others.
This was the perfect campsite for a quick overnight while visiting the garlic festival. Our campsite was nice and clean and a short walk to the vehicle. Greg/Jessica were very friendly and responsive. A real nice setting in the forest but still close to civilization. Plenty of room for our large tent (10'x10') and a smaller tent. The hike to the creek was steep but beautiful. Would definitely stay here again!
Magical lovely land
First camping journey with my daughter and 2 frenchies we had an absolutely amazing time here . When we got there Greg showed us where to park and we got to pick the area to open our tent at. He asked us if we neede wood 🪵 for the camp fire he also showed us the very nice and tidy compost bathroom 🚽 Jessica was very good at communicating with us as well they have a very nice piece of land to share with us very well kept too we will definitely be coming back over here we absolutely loved it thank you 🙏🏻
Happy campers :)
Really happy to have set up camp here & would recommend!
Jessi was extremely friendly and communicated via text & when we arrived Greg welcomed us and showed us the site. The spot we put up the tent was the one up a very tiny hill (but somewhat steep to anyone with mobility issues). The ground was flat and plenty of room to put up a giant tent. What was really great, was that the campfire spot was far enough away from the tent (not always the case we've found!) and you'll hear lots of owls at night :) We were so thankful for the compost toilet, and it seems like they are currently building a little fort for it (instead of the current tent). We forgot batteries and had to run out, but luckily the town is so close there's anything you need nearby. Recommend the Ice Cream shop for pumpkin soft serve!
The neighbors seemed somewhat grumpy about the car situation, and not overly friendly when you had to get around their vehicles, but not a big deal at all. Just be aware to keep your car out of their way. For any CF people, we did hear the neighborhood kids one night for a few hours, but only the one day.
Thank you both for a lovely getaway! Even with the rain, it was so much fun.
We are a family of five with three boys and had an amazing three days / two nights at Woodland Get Away. The hosts Jessi and Greg were very accommodating and friendly. The camp site was private and easily accessible. It was great getting to know the hosts and spending relaxing time at the site before venturing out on excursions down to the river for a swim or hiking near by trails. We would highly recommend Woodland Get Away for anyone looking for a great camping experience in a beautiful setting.
Awesome weekend at woodland getaway
Drove up from Westchester, NY and had a great time at Woodland Get Away with my 14 year old daughter and 5 year old son. Parking was very close to the 2 very nice campsite options, and the host sold us a very healthy supply of good firewood at a great price (there was also tons of logs and downed branches on site that we could have cut up for firewood had i thought to bring my small battery-powered chainsaw). The host also met us when we arrived and guided us to the campsite and gave us a very helpful overview of the property, the town and several local attractions. The campsite was also a very nice 10 minute hike from the Esopus Creek (more like a river) where we swam one day, and caught several fish the next day (a couple of smallmouth bass and some panfish). There was only one other occupied campsite which was far enough away that we never saw or heard them, so the whole experience felt very private. All in all, we had a great time - the whole thing felt very private, and we definitely plan to return.
Jessica & Greg’s property is great! Each campsite is wooded and private with fire rings and ample space to set up tents. Jessica was super communicative and made sure we found our way easily, and Greg met us when we arrived to show us around and help us pick a camping spot. Would definitely recommend and hope to return!
Beautiful spot, not best sleeping
Jessica was very courteous and prompt in sending and responding to messages. Greg was very kind and helpful in showing us around the sites. The wooded area and water was beautiful, but we thought it would be out far enough so as to not hear sirens, traffic, and the train (which went all night long.) The tent site was very rocky, even with a tarp, tent, and sleeping mats, we still felt big rocks as we tried to sleep. We paid $50/night for one tent site since we had our two young boys along. Although it was a beautiful spot, not sure that we would pay to stay again.
Nice campsite. Had a lot of fun on the swing! I can tell the owners put work into keeping it nice. I will say the post is a little deceiving. There are basically only 2 usable campsites near the parking area. The third campsite is down a steep slope and only halfway to the river, and mosquito-ridden. So I would make sure you are not competing with other campers before booking.
The rest of the walk to the river is VERY steep and requires the use of ropes to get up and down. DO NOT wear flip flops. There is no beach or area on the river to relax or layout. My dog had a good time swimming but wasn't quite what we were hoping for.
Overall, nice campsite but not sure it is worth $39 a night.
