Upon arriving, John greeted us in the driveway, showed us where to park and we walked about 1 minute from the car to the camping area. You have plenty of privacy from the house but would be great if the car was closer to the campsite for easier access/unloading. The campsite was fine. A bench, a fire pit and a pit toilet that barely worked (maybe we weren't operating it properly?). Would have been nice to have sitting logs around the fire pit. The ground was pretty mushy. We didn't have any firewood so we asked to purchase. Firewood is $10. John didn't have change of a $20 so it was either that or nothing... We grudgingly paid the $20 and then were showed the firewood and it turned out to be wet branches from a tree that recently was cut down. Not chopped or dry fire wood. Random branches from 1 foot to 5 feet long. John is plenty nice but it's a pretty big bummer to get charged that much for crap fire wood. We only camped here because we wanted to be close to Thacher State Park but would probably chose somewhere else next time if Thompson Lake is full.
