Premium and exclusive natural camping. Our property is located on the beautiful Karuah River in the picturesque Monkerai valley. The river is a fresh mountain river running from the foothills of Barrington tops. Most of the year the river is lovely and clear and ideal for swimming canoeing floating on airbeds fishing photography or just enjoying. There is also some really nice bike riding and walking opportunities around the valley although you will be on gravel roads and we are only 25 min drive from the popular Dungog mountain bike park.
You are likely to see a variety of birdlife other wildlife including black and white cockatoos ducks some lizards, occasionally wallabies, echidnas and if you are lucky a Platypus or two. Since July 21 we have started to see platypus again in the river frequently which is great news.
You will have your campsite completely to yourself with no other camper near you . Privacy, tranquility, relaxation and just enjoying nature is waiting for you.
Spring like conditions are hear already with the river looking beautiful and clear. All campsites are perfect for having a campfire and bring your telescope as you’ll be amazed at the stargazing at night with no light pollution. Ideal for self-contained vans, camper trailers, medium motor homes, tents or swags, its up to you. There are no toilets so only suitable if you have your own toilet facilities and take away all waste when you leave.
Gloucester Dungog and historic Stroud village are nearby as well as Barrington Tops National Park. We have only recently offered our property for guests and we are sure you will enjoy it far more than a crowded traditional caravan park or campground.
We do now also have some limited bags of firewood for sale at $20 a bag. These are heavy bags of very dry local Hardwood. You can also collect firewood along the river banks yourself or bring your own firewood in if that is easier and more convenient for you.
In addition and most importantly it is our understanding currently that to be coming to our property all adults need to be double Covid vaccinated. We are, all of our neighbours are and we think it’s the right thing to do by the local community so you understanding and compliance is appreciated.

Quiet and peaceful beside the river
Lovely quiet and peaceful spot by the river. Chris is a great host & gave us a tour of the property including meeting some very young calves (my wife & daughter love baby animals!).
Note there is limited mobile reception at the campsite (good for a digital detox; a little tricky if you need to be contactable) but you can go for a short walk or drive to get solid reception.
We have already booked a return visit....
Amazing spot and a great host, Chris mate it easy with no fuss directions. Once we arrived Chris greeted us and showed us to our site, along with some helpful tips on what to do and see around his property. The weekend was a perfect getaway. Can’t recommend this place enough, will definitely be back. Thanks Chris
Incredible place to stay!!
This was an absolutely incredible state. One of the best weekends I’ve had in a long time. The location is to die for it’s so beautiful and so private. Chris is an incredible host who gives you all the space in the world but also is very thoughtful and makes sure your all set up and give you know your way around.
He gave me a tour of this glorious property so I could really get out and explore. My dog had the best time as well.
This is suitable for anyone who really wants to relax in nature’s true beauty and or who really wants a fun adventure.
I cannot wait to come back !! Chris is a legend !!
Relaxation at its best!
Chris was so friendly and a lovely host of his gorgeous property. Our campsite was mowed for comfort with the river and rapids right in front of our site. We didn’t need to leave the property at all! We spent a lot of time floating on blowups and kayaking on the river, fishing, sitting by the fire, relaxing and reading. Chris took us to visit the cows snd showed us a bit of his land and where to go and look for platypus, which we did do on dusk and were lucky to see a few! Wouldn’t change a thing and it was exactly what we were after, a place to getaway and not be cramped camping around others. It’s so quiet and a beautiful area not too far away from Newcastle, was a great escape for 2 nights and covid friendly.
