The 350 acres comprising of native bushland, riverside mangroves and cleared pastures. It is completely surrounded by the Marramarra National Park. The property dates back to early English settlement and is entwined into the Hawkesbury’s rich history.

There are a number of activities that can be experienced on the farm including kayaking, bushwalking, fishing, crabbing (in warmer months) and boating.

This campsite suits self-contained campers who bring their own camping toilet/shower. There is access to a drinking water supply which comes from a natural spring high up in the sandstone cliffs which can also be shown to you if you don't mind a hike. The beauty of our camp sites are you are totally on your own which enhances the rural experience, with the river on one side and the cliffs on the other it truly does give you the feeling of being alone with nature. The towing of traditional caravans along our approach road is not advised at the moment however we are working on improving that. Rubbish facilities are also catered for too.

We supply fishing gear and crab pots for a small cost but you have to bring your own bait for for both. We also offer a cow feeding experience for an additional charge. Firewood can be gathered in amongst the trees surrounding the camp sites but we can supply wood if needed, please see Extras.

Enjoy the evenings telling tall tales around the campfire. You may experience a number of animals throughout your stay including native birds, cows, goannas, wallabies and bush turkeys. There are a number of walks in the surrounding area that we can provide information on if your wanting to explore. On our adjoining property (40 acres) there is an amazingly beautiful waterfall with a refreshing dip pool at the base. This is obviously only appreciated when there has been some good rain in the area.  There are also cafes and pubs in the nearby towns that can be enjoyed plus a fantastic Thai restaurant located just across the river at Spencer who will deliver to the farm by boat for a small charge. If you are truly looking for a rural camping experience then look no further than the Hawkesbury River Farm, we will do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable.

Due to our wandering cows and calves we have no pets policy SORRY.

On the southern shore of the Hawkesbury upstream from Mangrove Creek in Haycock Reach. Peter Hibbs (1762-1847) was a seaman who was a member of Governor Phillip’s party which explored the Hawkesbury. In 1823 he was granted 60 acres here. He is buried in the Wisemans Ferry Cemetery at Laughtondale. Reed gives “Cooranggoorah” as meaning “grass tree”. The Aborigines used the gum from these to attach spear heads and for a variety of other purposes. These grass-trees are abundant in much of the Hawkesbury sandstone region.

Access by road:

Hawkesbury River Farm is approximately a 1 hour and 50 minute drive from Sydney CBD, a 2 hour drive from Gosford or a 3 hour drive from Newcastle CBD. The road is sealed for the most part except for the last 3 km’s which is unsealed and can be rough at times. Arrival before dark is advised.

Access by water:

Hawkesbury River Farm is approximately a 35-minute boat ride from Brooklyn Marina and Hawkesbury River Train Station. You may take your own boat or catch a Water Taxi which we can help organise. You can tie off your boat on the private jetty however there is no boat ramp on the property.

Real rural camping and expect unexpected. The host(Grodan) was very friendly and went beyond to accommodate the campers. Very generous in taking us hiking and to the beautiful waterfall. The camp site was surrounded by tranquil forest with breezy river on the edge. Expect casual encounter with iguana's who are friendly. The jetty is good for fishing, crabbing and prawning. River gets lively in the night and expect some big pulls. Great adventure for kids.

Will revisit this site soon.

We absolutely loved camping at the Hawkesbury River Farm. It felt like a secret slice of paradise. From the gorgeous drive in, to the beautiful and peaceful surrounding scenery, and the nearby bush walks and river. Gordon was the perfect host, and struck the right balance of being super friendly and helpful, whilst also just leaving us to enjoy our stay. The campsite was so well maintained and a delight to camp on.
We 100% recommend this farm stay and we will definitely be coming back!

Thomas, What a great bunch of young people you brought to the farm, I have nothing but praise and good things to say about yous. I would recommend any camp hosts to accept your booking and go even further by saying "they would be crazy to miss out in you all". Take care, stay safe and see ya's all again I hope. cheers Gordon.

Me and a couple mates booked a last minute trip to the farm and would have been happy with a little patch of land to ourselves but boy did we get spoilt. Gordon gave us an absolutely beautiful spot by the river where we had our own private wharf where you could swim and fish.

I can’t say a bad word about Gordon, he’s an absolute legend and did everything he could to make us feel welcome and to help with any camping needs.

I seriously couldn’t say a bad word about this place.

See you again soon Gordon!

Spectacular location, what an adventure! The view on the drive in was beautiful. Hosts were very responsive and helpful. We shared our campsite with some beautiful goannas which thrilled our sons. A sunset fish from the jetty overlooking the Hawkesbury was a highlight. We’ll be back

One of the best camping experiences we’ve had. The site is fantastic. With our own jetty we were able to fish, kayak, set crab pots and just sit and watch the mighty Hawksbury flow slowly by. Gordon is the consummate host, checking if there is anything we needed, answering my dumb questions and explaining the features of the property.
