Sustainable Living Homestead

Our son has mapped 31kms of trails on our 940acres of land, mostly old logging tracks but now maintained as fire breaks and generally suitable for mountain biking or electric bikes( a great bonus in this steep country).

Many birds particularly around the homestead gardens but also in the forest if you bring binoculars. Platypus have been sighted in the river but are not common. Dingoes, possums, lizards and snakes are more common.

Dry sclerophyll forest in blooming recovery from catastrophic bushfires has a beauty all of its own and many more long distance views than before the fires. Can see over to Comboyne and north to Mt Seaview and Mt Banda Banda in Werrikembi NP.

We are 520m above sea level and right on the northern edge of the Bulga Plateau with very steep terrain out to the north dropping into a gorge with 300ft cliffs in places .

The Doyles River wraps around our land and drops through almost 200m in about 2kms of cascades, waterfalls and gorgeous spa pools.

The closest pool and rock platform is about 1.5 kms from the house and the cascades about 3 kms with several other options in between. You can walk along the edge of the river which has its own special charm and vegetation.

We have been practicing sustainable living , off grid on solar, wood and gravity power for 40 yrs and have fully caged organic fruit and vegetable gardens and permaculture swales of a big diversity of bush tuckers, other edibles and cabinet timbers, watered from gravity feed hanging dams above the house. Large seed collection of unusual produce and a very small nursery of native and edible palnts.

We are 2.6kms along GilloglysRd and there is a steep hill about 0.5kms in and again but not so steep coming down to the house. These roads are in reasonable shape for dirt tracks but get very slippery as soon as we have rain. 4WD essential. Gilloglys is also very narrow and we recommend a 15kph speed limit to be safe from oncoming traffic.
