COVID 19 - when you make a REQUEST TO BOOK, we will message you with the precautions we have implemented to keep our guests safe and enjoy your stay at our sites.

COLD SEASON -  The 4WD access, is walk in only, with snow on the ground or in the forecast.

ROCK BOTTOM CABIN is a primitive, (NO electricity, plumbing, or AC), sleeper cabin in a secluded hardwood forest setting. Our Rock Bottom Cabin shares the same woodland and trails as our Wooden Tent site, yet set apart with a low wooded hill in between.

The Rock Bottom Cabin is 10 ft. wide by 20 ft. long and sleeps four comfortably on either a full size futon provided, or an extra length full size bed, that can be split into two extra length single beds.  There is room at the site for extra tents ( please inquire ). The cabin consists of two small semi private rooms with partial wall and curtain dividers on each end, and a small entry area that contains a wood stove, for winter heating, in the middle, .  The cabin is fully insulated and well ventilated. It has two large windows with insulated curtains in the sleeping rooms, as well as screened side and eve vents. Attached to the front of the cabin is an 8 ft. by 20 ft. deck with access ramps and steps down to the picnic table area, and to the out house -  set off to one side. A large fireplace sits down and in front of the cabin with dry firewood provided in a shelter close by. There is plenty of room to set up your lawn chairs near the fireplace for a relaxing evening in front of the fire, or stay on the deck and look out at a beautiful woodland setting.

Your adventure starts with a 300-foot elevation drop from ridge top to valley campsite. Easy walk in/ drive in (4 wheel drive ) trail access, plus five miles of woodland hiking trails on our property, maps provided. The Rock Bottom Cabin campsite is accessible by four wheel drive vehicle - minimum clearance 6 inches,   if the soils are not saturated, or snow covered. If guests do not arrive in a four wheel drive vehicle we are able to help transport your gear to the site with a UTV while guests enjoy the walk in, or a tractor and trailer if conditions are poor. Let us know your needs when you book with us and we will do our best to help you with getting to the site.

This campsite, though close to highway access is very quiet and secluded. We apologize if you are able to get cell phone service or wifi. We can't afford the jamming equipment. The only artificial lights visible from the campsite are the occasional airplane and your own flashlights or lanterns ( strongly recommended because it is very dark in our woods at night). When the sky is clear, the  stars are fabulous.

Our rock Bottom Cabin campsite is ideal for those looking for a quiet woodland setting, with a few comforts - a nice fireplace (with firewood), picnic table, outhouse, and solid shelter. We also provide the mattresses, sheets, and pillows, but please bring your own sleeping bags or blankets to suit your needs. We also provide fresh drinking water in Thermos jugs. Please bring good flashlights with you for night time excursions to the outhouse, or walking around the campsite, or an adventurous  hike on the trails at night.

There are plenty of woodland birds, deer, turkeys, raccoons and squirrels sharing the woods with you. At night it is common for owls to visit the campsite area to say hello, and coyotes talking in the distance. The winding trails through 100 acres of woodland offer a variety of woodland habitats, from old growth Maple, to mixed hardwood, to dense brush, to the edges of open pastureland. The over five miles of trails are also suitable for mountain or fat biking.

For winter users there is a mix of easy, moderate, and challenging winter cross country skiing,  or snowshoeing / hiking on the property. Then return to a cozy cabin with an inside woodstove for heat, to relax and / or read a book, play games, etc.

This property is part of a working pasture-based dairy farm and viewing  of the dairy and cattle are available when scheduling allows.

Children 12 and younger are free at our campsites. No need to be counted as guests , but please let us know when requesting to book.

We do not allow non-booked visitors to our campsites due to the secluded, remote location, and accessibility.

We stayed at Rock Bottom and truly enjoyed our stay. The site was beautiful and private. Mike and Joan have put a lot of thought into each of their sites. They had barrels for garbage, gray water and ash and also plenty of supplies for building a fire. The whole property itself is amazing! Lots of well maintained trails in a rolling landscape with many interesting views. They supplied a map of the trail system that was easy to follow.

We loved our weekend stay here! The fall colors were beautiful, and the cabin was so warm and cozy. It all felt very homey and the details were well thought out. We didn’t see another person during our whole stay, and walked most of the trails! They were beautiful. Our stay was easy and dreamy 🥰

We absolutely loved our stay at the Rock Bottom Cabin over Labor Day weekend! The Gilles family farm is beautiful to explore with miles of trails for hiking and getting “lost” in nature. All of the trails are easy to navigate and Mike even gives little riddles for you to find things around the property while you’re exploring! A hike up to the springs is a must, especially if you have a dog, the clear water views are unmatched. Mike is a fantastic host, making sure the cabin is clean and providing amenities that make this place feel like a remote home away from home. We enjoyed sitting out by the fire every night, playing cards, and soaking in the sounds of wildlife. We are looking forward to coming back, this spot is exactly what the soul needs for a quick reset from daily life.

The cabin was excellent for our trip this weekend! We loved being on the farm, seeing the animals, hiking the trails, having a dry place to crash after a long day of hiking and adventures nearby, and having everything we needed without being in a busy campground. Mike showed us where everything was the first day and left us a few additional items he thought of the next day to make our stay even better.

If you are looking for a quiet & secluded getaway, this is the perfect spot for you! The cabin is adorable, nestled in beautiful hills and completely private at the end of a trail. Plenty of water and firewood was provided and we slept like babies!

Wow! Once again, we were very pleased with our stay on Mike and Joan’s land. Our group of 6 did a combination of cabin sleeping, tent camping and sleeping in hammocks. We loved the trails and were happy to introduce this home away from home to our friends. Mike’s hospitality was above and beyond. We can’t wait to stay again!

It was a rainy day, but we stayed dry under the large tree in front of Rock Bottom Cabin. Went for a night hike! We had a blast.

The campsite, Rock Bottom Cabin, was beautiful, with a nice mix of shade and sun. It's well organized with places for trash, recycling, ashes and grey water. Everyone really enjoyed the personal sliding glass doors direct to the outside, including the toddler! Despite their full-time work on the dairy farm, our hosts were friendly, responsive, and interested in our comfort and well-being during our stay. The retractable awning made for a great outdoor room during a rainy period. The many trails offered all sorts of hiking and a lovely sense of humor - from the oak faces to the troll under the bridge.

From West bedroom looking towards picnic area!Having fun with Mom and Dad at the picnic table!
