Our property and profile are in constant change as we are in a stage of development, but we look to share our land with those seeking to enjoy a warm, welcome environment for those fellow wanderers, outdoor enthusiasts, vagabonds, and globetrotters. I am a well-traveled backpacker myself and share 5 1/2 acres with my father here in a bustling little touristy town. We enjoy the company of those who endorse small footprint, sustainable practices and I eventually intend to create an eco-hostel from the conversion of our 100 year old barn.  All we ask is that you respect the property, our neighbors, and make an effort to add one more new friend before you depart.

We had a quick but great stay at Logan's place. The directions were easy to follow, and he was very welcoming and helpful in showing us around. The space he is building is really incredible - we wish we could have stayed longer with more people! We would definitely recommend staying at his place, both if just passing through or as a base camp when spending more time in the area.

Thank you so much for choosing to stay with us on your voyage back to the coast. I always enjoy giving the (albeit) short tour around our lil' property. Your warm spirited demeanor is welcome back to Tumbleweed Base Camp anytime!

Stayed with mountain bike team. Great place! Enough space to spread out, well laid out, incredibly friendly host.

Happy to host the whole crew this time around Kristin, was a blast to see the kiddos enjoying the property and sitting around the campfire. Thank you for the nice review and hope to see the group in 2022!

Can't say enough good things about Logan and Tumbleweed Base Camp! Logan is a Prince among camping hosts! Very good communication throughout the booking, camping and checking out process. He answered texts immediately and was noting but accommodating. We didn't pull in until about 9:30PM. He was waiting for us and helped us find our spot get parked in complete darkness. The campground itself is beautiful. Lots of trees and there is an old barn that Logan is remodeling. It is a common space that he lets the campers use. It has a ping pong table, bumper pool table, and many other games for campers to enjoy. We stayed there because our kids had a mountain bike race at Detroit Mountain. It was a 5 minute bike ride to the single track. Book with Tumbleweed Base camp you won't be disappointed.

My sister and I needed a last minute place to crash while driving cross country. We quickly chose tumbleweed base camp, and I’m so glad we did. It felt safe and private. Logan was quick to respond to our request and communicated so wonderfully the whole time. His father met us as soon as we drove in and gave us the lay of the land, he was so warm and welcoming! Would definitely stay here again!

Happy to host you guys on short notice, it seemed like Ziggy and Ollie were glad to settle in for the night after some much needed snooping of the property! A big thank you for the warm welcome and craft brews upon arrival (those didn’t last long in the fridge 🍻). Enjoy the journey towards Maine, I’m sure the colors are eye-popping right now, cheers!

The hosts, the property, the location, the barn - everything was great, and all combined for a really nice Hipcamp experience. It’s a beautiful piece of land in a quiet, rolling location that is nevertheless close to the city of Detroit Lakes (although you would never guess that you were anywhere near a city), and only ~1/4 mile from the Detroit Mountain Recreation Area (mountain biking, skiing, et cetera). The hosts, Logan and his dad, are very personable and accommodating, and Logan treated me to a tour of the site’s highlight, a work-in-progress c.~1927 barn that they are renovating into a game-room/ gathering spot. Overall, while you may be better off looking elsewhere if you’re after a KOA/ Jellystone Park camping experience, or a place to bring your 40’ Winnebago for full hookups, it’s ideal for someone looking for a quiet , laid-back semi-rustic camping experience.

Response from Logan, the Host, on September 24th, 2021

Thank you sincerely for the gracious, detailed review Don! We are happy to hear that our property sufficed for your preparation for the Dick Beardsley Marathon and the tour was to your liking. The wall is finally complete with soil in place and a functioning garage door 😂. If you pass through this area again, we’d be happy to show you the progress and share more of what the barn has in store, thanks again for your booking with Tumbleweed Base Camp!

Thank you for the positive review Cami and Joey, a pleasure to meet the both of you. Sorry to hear that you encountered some bike thieves in your journey across the States, but I hope that you also found some new friendly acquaintances and trustworthy connections along the route and restored some faith in humanity. I enjoyed the shared photos for Tumbleweed, we have a couple of hiding ‘creatures’ throughout the property watching over our guests as they enjoy the landscape and nature. Safe travels back to Florida!
