Site 1 is a pull-through site and is a very large and private spot with a primitive stove for warming water or food, a fire ring and picnic table.
The shared outhouse is closest to site 1 (200 feet up the hill)
Site 3 is a perfect stop on your way through and offers a secluded spot to set up a tent and park 1-2 vehicles and has a pot-belly stove for warming food, a picnic table and bench. Check out my tent rental sites on the other listing here called Levitating Upper Peninsula Retreat. Think up-north seasonal residential private road. (But tucked away in the forest out of view.)You cannot see another campsite or structure from any site.
You won’t be camped next to a highway, it’s a peaceful place to set up camp and not be bothered or feel cramped or crowded; Bears live in the UP but I have never had any campers encounter them- always keep food in your car overnight.
M-28 can be a busy highway at times; but all sites are out of sight of highway and at least 1000 feet away; you may hear the road sometimes but it’s not a freeway and there is almost no traffic at night.
No shortage of room to park anything you drive; set up a tent/ hammock; have a beverage on the picnic table next to the campfire!
I live a half mile away.
Verizon and AT&T cell service one or two bars of LTE CELL SERVICE (METROPCS/Sprint no service)
NICE CLEAN OUTHOUSE TOILET on the property.
You’ll be: 8 miles west of Newberry south of M-28. 52 miles east of Munising This is the most centrally located spot to see most eastern UP attractions; TAQUAMANON FALLS; Brewery and Pub, OSWALD BEAR RANCH, Seney Wildlife Refuge.
MUNISING WATERFALLS, Garland Zoo and PICTURED ROCKS, GREAT LAKES SHIPWRECK MUSEUM, Big Spring Kitchittikippi, GRAND MARAIS BEACH,
Camping in the UP, don't forget to be ready for mosquitos;
I keep the vegetation down and spray once a year; a smokey fire does a great job of chasing them out of your site!
The convenience store is within a mile and offers booze, ice, gas, campfire wood, subs and anything else you may have forget to bring with you.
If there is another group camping on the property, you may never even see them.
The forest surrounds all sites, and you'll feel like your tucked away in your own Mature Maple, Birch, and Spruce 'forest room'
Public Access to the lake offers fishing at the DNR boat launch ACROSS M-28 FROM THE BEARS DEN 1/4 mile away. This private-road neighborhood is tight-knit and values the security, privacy and quiet that goes with this area. Showers avalable in town at the Pleasant Moose for 14 dollars.
(Public boat launch also has a toilet)

Highly recommend staying here when visiting in the area! It is conveniently located close to the Pictured Rocks & many other places when checking out the Upper Peninsula. Our campsite was very private & Cory was accommodating for all of our needs! Would stay here again whenever we have the opportunity to visit Michigan in the future!

My daughter and I were unsure what to expect as this was our 1st time on Hipcamp, but were surprised to find Cory's camp site was wonderful! We told our friends it was the 2 room campsite... Lol...as the spot for the tent was separated from main camping area. It was cozy! We were not expecting the darling wood stove, chairs and picnic table! The little touches of cute tree faces and the rocks along the path, show the attentiveness Cory has put into his site. We read other campers suggestions and brought bug spray but also used a camp fogger to keep mosquitoes at bay. The site is quiet and private and plenty of distance from the other sites. The proximity to drive 1-2 hrs and see other things was convenient. Great location off main highway. Would come back again!
Beautiful property! Do come prepared for the mosquitos, but enjoy the lovely campsite. Would definitely stay again!
Convenient location for affordable
I'm grateful that Cory offers spots in the area at a rate that made it affordable enough for me to explore the Upper Peninsula. The site is no more than an hour from anything to see east of the Pictured Rocks, which is an awful lot. You will not run out of things to do. The Bears Den was a super convenient one-stop-shop for convenient items, including firewood.
Know that cell reception is extremely spotty throughout the area, but I was almost always able to get service at my site. Cory had no choice but to take down the storage shed which used to be on Site 1, so be prepared to keep your stuff in the car overnight or in case of rain.
When I visit again, I'll definitely return to this site!
Wonderful location Cory is very responsive and the area is well kept. Great place to camp with private tent area off the side. We used hammocks and have no issues. It’s wild enough to be able to listen to the wolves and birds throughout the night.
Nice fire pit lined with rocks and 2 stumps make it very campworthy, definitely would recommend to anyone.
