Located less than 10 minutes from Lake Crescent, directly across US-101 from Lake Sutherland, and 20 minutes west of downtown Port Angeles, Wandering Joy Campground is the perfect homebase for your Olympic National Park adventures! Wander the property trails to discover giant moss-covered boulders, aged big leaf maple, towering grand fir, and western red cedar. Heavily forested with mixed conifer species, dense alder stands, and a rich understory, you'll enjoy a vibrant habitat for wildlife, especially birds. We are committed to protecting the health and wellness of this magical forest and kindly ask that you pack out all trash, exercise extreme caution with campfires, be a respectful neighbor to fellow campers, and leave only good vibes behind! PLEASE NOTE: * We are primarily a tenting campground. Not all sites are suitable for car-camping/rooftop tents as the parking may not be level and/or large enough for your rig. Please send us a message PRIOR to booking and we’d be happy to recommend any available sites that may fit your need. *All of our sites have their own shape, size, and characteristics, no two are alike! Please refer to the site descriptions and pictures to assist you in choosing a site for your adventure. If in doubt, just send a message and we’ll help steer you in the right direction. Your experience is important to us! *We are a small, private campground. As such, our site limits are set to 2 ppl, 1 vehicle, 1 tent. You can select to add up to 2 more ppl on select sites, for an additional charge. Our sites are simply not large enough to be considered group sites. For your comfort, we recommended that you book multiple sites if you have a larger party. As always, we can help you choose the best site for your party, so don’t hesitate to reach out! * 4WD/AWD drive recommended for Sites 9-11 due to the steady uphill gravel access road. Especially recommended for vans and heavier vehicles.

Site 1 is located on the lower loop and offers a picnic table, fire pit with grill grate, and a level (12x9) tent pad. Parking is at site. You can choose to either pull up into the site or park in front of the site. Campervans will not be able to pull into up the site due to the sloped entry and size but there is level parking in front of the site. Site 1 can accommodate a 2nd smaller (2-3) person tent outside of the tent pad + great hammock trees!

Site 7 is nestled in between neighboring sites 6 and 8. Perfect site to book along with either 6 or 8 if you are travelling with friends and needing overflow tent space. Canopied by some of the grandest Big Leaf Maples on the property, it provides excellent summer shade!

Please note the size of your vehicle when booking. The site is around a curve and up a hill, gravel driveway. Not recommended for rear-wheel-drive vehicles. Easy access to the property trail leading to the big boulders.

Tent camping at Wandering Joy was such a fun time! Central to all the beauty Olympic National Park has to offer! Sites were well spaced out and we had enough privacy from our neighbors. Definitely will be coming back and making this our regular stay when visiting the Olympics!

Erin is the best camp host! Just got home from my 2nd stay at Wandering Joy campground and I will absolutely be back again! I felt welcomed and safe the entire time! The campsites are so perfect, clean, and well taken care of!! And the PORTA POTTYS are hands down the cleanest ones you will find! Thank you Erin! I can’t wait to come camp again!

Where do I start!! This spot is AMAZING!! Erin our host was so nice. Greeted us when we arrived and was always quick to respond to any questions. This camp site was so quiet, clean and cozy. It is so close to all the Olympics have to offer. We will definitely be back!! Thank you!!

The site was clean and big enough and had enough privacy. My partner hasn’t tent camped before so the platform was a good starting point for him. You can hear the neighbors and the street but that was expected. The sanikan was super clean. I would stay again!

I loved this campground! Clean and not crowded, it was such a nice anchoring spot on our Lake Crescent weekend. Cleanest portapotty I’ve ever used. For the price I would have loved running water or a trashcan. Overall, amazing camp spot.

My husband and I loved camping here! We are Washington locals who love to visit Lake Crescent, and booked these spots as a last-minute camping trip. The area felt really safe, was well-maintained, we didn't hear much road noise at all (lots of owls at night hooting, though!) and the porta-potties were the CLEANEST I've ever stepped foot in. Site #4 was conveniently located, fairly close to #2 and #3, but still had decent privacy. The site was about 100 steps from the bathrooms — not too far, but not too close. All the other campers were quiet, friendly, and respectful. There was firewood available for purchase and non-potable water for drenching our fires. I would absolutely camp here again!

Wandering Joy campground is wonderfully maintained, it is clear that those running the campground know what they're doing. We stayed in site 8, a very sunny site. We had neighbors closeby who were friendly and respectful. We went on a walk around both camp loops and I walked the trails on the land. The sites offer variety and well crafted picnic tables and some have tent pads. Porta potties were very clean and well stocked. We especially appreciated the non-potable water available to drown your campfire when done. The camp host was very friendly and gave us a couple of handmade coasters as souvenirs! The energy of the campground was very welcoming and cozy. The progress/pride flag was a big selling point for us and we were not disappointed with the atmosphere of the campground. It is such a relief to feel safe while camping. There is a general store very close with plenty of necessities if any are forgotten. Will absolutely be back to try out a different site! They each had their own unique features!

Great drive-up campsite that was very kid friendly and easy to access. The site was clean, convenient, and made camping with family simple. The porta John’s were surprisingly clean and well maintained, which was a big plus. We would definitely camp here again.

Spent Memorial Day weekend here with our two kids. The site was great, spacious, and nicely private. There was a good amount of sunlight during the day too which was nice. It was a great base camp to explore Olympic National Park and the trails in the area during the day and come back to relax at night. We will definitely stay here again if we’re in the area!

This was my third time camping at Site 0 and I look forward to camping there again. Wandering Joy puts so much care and love into the property- from the condition of the picnic tables to the shelter to the porta-potties, everything is beautifully maintained.

Found one of my new fav camping spots! Will def be making my way back here at least once every camping season. I was lucky to bump into Erin and chat about the campgrounds and she shared about how intentional they are with the sites and the impact they’re making in the area. She also left me with the cutest souvenir! I felt well informed so that I was prepared for my trip and have never felt so safe while solo camping. Highly recommend!

This was my second time staying at Wandering Joy, and it really is such a refreshing experience. The campsites are private, everything you need is right there, and the host’s are just lovely people. Having stayed at various sites throughout the Olympics, this is my favorite. :)

We stayed at Wandering Joy for 4 nights, and I am so glad we did! Erin was so nice, came and chatted with us and shared information about the land. The campground was easy to find, and very close to Lake Crescent. The campsites are cozy and just the right size for 2 people. The porta potties were spotless, and the campground was quiet and peaceful. We saw little critters and stargazed, followed a trail in camp through an old growth forest, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you Erin!

It’s absolutely perfect. The in a beautiful area, clean campgrounds, and the cleanest porta potty’s I’ve ever used ! It’s about 10 mins from the absolutely amazing and beautiful Crescent Lake and about 30 mins from town if you need any last minute supplies, but there is also a General store directly next to the campground. The sites are perfect, wonderful area for your tent(s) and equipped with a picnic table and fire pit!! I absolutely cannot wait to stay here again.

I love this camp ground because it is so close to Lake Crescent, they have the CLEANEST porta potties I have ever experienced, and each campground is well maintained and nicely set up! Will definitely be staying here again in the future

Sites 0 and 1 are great! Site 0 has a covered wood tent platform. Site 1 is the largest site, with room for 2 tents. The wood shaving tent pads are terrific. The porta potties are immaculate. There is a small market just past the entry to Wandering Joy from 101. We enjoyed the proximity to Lake Crecent and swam there every afternoon The only downsides to Wandering Joy are: No potable water and noise from nearby hwy 101.
