Camping in the East Texas Pines
We had a fantastic time. We enjoyed the property, did some hiking in the forest. Our dog loved running freely and we enjoyed the firepit and smores. Ty was there to greet us and show us where we can set up our camp.

Camping in the East Texas Pines
Starry nights and sounds of nature
Following the provided directions we found the site with ease. We did use our 4WD to drive in to the campsite as there are some muddy spots. You would be able to park a car and hike back if needed. We enjoyed cooking over a campfire, watching the stars and bit of a walk back towards the Davy Crockett National Forrest. As we were looking for a quiet, slow time, we found a spot next to a little brook to enjoy a good book. We had the pleasure of learning a bit about the property from Tyler. If you’re looking for a secluded campsite with a reasonable drive from Houston, check it out!

Camping in the East Texas Pines
Along East 450 Route
Tyler’s place is out in the boondocks. Secluded and very primitive. It’s along the East Texas 450 Route, it’s a location that can be a night at the beginning or toward the end of the route.

Camping in the East Texas Pines
Tall trees, dark sky
We love the East Texas Piney Woods, and we had a blast camping at Tyler’s land. Tyler has a few different sites, but you can camp anyplace you’d like. We chose to camp a little deeper in the woods and set up right next to a lovely stream. Tons of dead, fallen trees are available for firewood. We brought our dog, and she loved roaming off-leash and splashing in the creek. The dogs on property are friendly, and we rarely saw them. Tyler’s property and the adjacent national forest have incredible hiking, though he warned us the undergrowth would be thicker in the summer. Nearby Ratcliff Lake is fun year-round for swimming and fishing. This is such a beautiful property for easy primitive camping.

Camping in the East Texas Pines
“I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order." - John Burroughs Our family had a wonderful two nights stay amongst the East Texas Pines. The hosts were warm and welcomed us upon arrival. They even thoughtfully provided a pile of firewood and lighter fluid to get us started. It was the perfect reset button we needed from city life and to get back into the slower, rhythmic groove of nature. The meditative, babbling creek was an added bonus to this site. Highly recommend giving this place a try.

Camping in the East Texas Pines
Peaceful and quiet, this trip was the perfect weekend getaway. The first camping trip our dog took, she ended up having a blast. We will be coming back for our camping needs!
