Learn more about this land: Camp Catching is located on Catching Slough a beautiful tidal water way located in the Coos Sumner area near Coos Bay. Home lands to the Coos and Coquille tribes. Camp catching is a part of Blue Barns Farms, a 6 acres homestead located on Old Wagon Rd. We grow a variety of vegetables, fruit trees, and flowers for home use and occasional road side sales. We also grow a number of herbs and keep chickens. In the past we have raised goats, pigs, chickens and turkeys; however, in communication with this land we have learned the land wishes to be a place to gather and grow. This area is considered a “Banana Belt” as during the summer it is often 15 degrees warmer than “in town” and outside of the fog bank that is often seen daily closer to the ocean. It is a great place to set up camp while exploring other areas of our beautiful community. The Oregon Bay Area ( Coos County) is a True Hidden Gem. You can go from mountain to sea; exploring waterfalls to playing at the beach all in one day. We have 5 camping areas around our little blue barn and surrounding area. Each camp spot has a solo fire pit, bundle of firewood and picnic table (please note: fires will be permitted based on fire risk.) All 5 camping spots have access to Catching Slough for paddle boarding and kayaking; I have been known to even swim on a hot day. We have two paddle boards, two kayaks and a child kayak (less than 130 lbs) available for camper use. We also have life jackets available. Catching slough is influenced by the tides and contains brackish waters- both add additional magic to this area. This means twice a day the slough empties traveling to the ocean and fills up again. High tide is a great time for paddle boarding and kayaking; low tide is wonderful for watching birds and other animals. Anytime is actually great for bird watching! We have a number of different species of birds that rest here while migrating- the opportunity to see them all depends on the time of year that you visit. You can also watch fish jump in the bend of the slough. Other oddities that we have seen since living here over the last 7 years- swimming deer and even a seal(only once)! Everyone who comes to visit finds the slough mesmerizing and beautiful! For facilities we have an outdoor shower, cold water soaking tub, and Porter potties that are emptied regularly and cleaned daily. We have a hot tub on our personal deck- campers may be able to access this- just ask upon arrival. Campers will have access to our two gardens and fruit trees- while in season. Our little Blue Barn is a communal space offering a refrigerator, microwave, hot plate, kettle, tea house and camp store. Their is also a barbecue located outside the barn for camps use. We have a community board in the barn with local activities and for campers to share their offerings while traveling. If you are staying during the weekend their is the opportunity for Sunday mid morning yoga. We also occasionally host bands and farm to table events.

What a sweet spot! Highlights include: incredibly clear and friendly communication with host, a beautiful slough view, and the best outdoor shower ever. It’s not a spot for much camping privacy although our neighbors were quiet and thoughtful, so it all worked out! This place has very sweet vibes.

Amazing place to camp!

This place is awesome! Friendly hosts who were knowledgeable in what’s fun to do in the area along with crabbing and clamming info. The camp was peaceful and the communal area sets this place apart from others. I rate this place 5/5 stars!

The camp site was beautiful. They had the cutest barn decorated and set up as a hangout for campers with tea, water, games, microwave, comfortable seating and a fridge. The family was super nice. There were other campers but they were quiet. The owners also gave us free access to paddle boards to go out on their lake. It was a great stay and we are definitely going back.

I Loved camping here! The place is very idyllic, you can see the city lights at night from the campside on top of the hill, you can soak in the outdoor bathtub to relax or you could ask robin what there is to do outside of hos property! He was very friendly and gave the best advice for places! Would totally camp here again next time I'm in the area!

Beautiful place to camp!

What great hosts! They have made this camping spot super special. We loved staying here. It’s only 15 minutes from the coast and it’s a beautiful property right on a slough where you can SUP (they have 2 to use) or Kayak. The social barn is a great place to unwind if weather prevents you from being outside. Otherwise, lounge around your personal fire pit and take in the scenery. As an extra bonus theres access to a steaming hot shower! 🙌

Luxury camping get away

Amazing location with the water next to the site that had ducks and geese flying over head. The community barn was an amazing unexpected addition that allowed additional relaxation in a tranquil spot. The camping spot was in the grass and flat. A total surprise was the lack of bugs as the sun was setting. We were told that the various birds helped keep the bugs away. Whatever the case, no bugs while camping was more like glamping.

Camping was great!

Camping at Alisha’s land was great! The barn was cute and the shower was awesome. We went paddle boarding with the ones on site, and just had a great time all around. Highly recommend.

Just a Little Piece of Paradise

Lovely camping spot with amenities! Catching Slough very peacefully rises and falls with the tide, birds are busy and sing all day, bullfrogs croak and owls hoot at night, and a babbling spring lulls you to sleep. Along with all that nature, there are amenities that make camping more like glamping. The barn is a sweetly-decorated common area with seating, games, lights, a full size fridge/freezer, hot pot to boil water, and a small antique chest that tea lovers MUST explore. Alisha had fresh flowers out and fresh cool water too — all very welcoming! And did I mention there’s an outdoor shower (with hot water)? Great spot… I hope to return with friends one day soon!
