It was 1984 when John found his ‘diamond in the rough’, 20 acres with an orchard on the outskirts of Brantford. O.K., so the house was nothing to write home about but perfect for building a construction yard…no neighbors except for the family across the road that used their property to build log homes. By 1987 the old house was gone, a new one was being built and a shop for working on heavy equipment had been located about 200 ft. from Dr. the back door. It wasn’t until 1996 that things changed very much. Yes, the property around the house had benefitted from a wide array of trees and shrubs that John saved from the construction/demolition jobs he had done and that still thrive today but no big projects (except for equipment purchases) were ongoing. A chance meeting with the neighbor across the road one day resulted in the following dinner conversation, ‘How was your day’ I chirped. ‘Not bad, so-and-so didn’t come in; the truck broke down and I took it for repair; I bought the property across the road, and oh, yeah I’ll need a ride after dinner to pick up the truck’ was John’s casual reply. ‘What was that’? I pressed. ‘Yes, I need a ride after dinner to pick up the truck’ he repeated with a bit more volume. Of course like anyone, I had questions, ‘Do you want peas or corn with dinner’? ‘What time do you want to go to get the truck’? ‘The property across the road’, 10 acres, still has the 4 storey barn with its twin tiled silos which was built in 1914 and the big white house with wrap around porch that once was home to a Doctor and his family. Built so the Doctor could see his patients in the front with the family living in the back was very common in the day. Things remained relatively peaceful until 2000 when after studying alpacas for more than 6 years I bought our first three. Back in 2000 alpacas and llamas were not frequently seen on farms and because they could been seen from the road they received A LOT of attention. People driving by would stop and ask about them, ask if they could take a picture or two and that was when I would hear over and over again ‘You have a beautiful place here, I wish I/we could stay’. Well, if you want to visit and stay in the city it’s doable, we call it a hotel. But visiting a farm and staying well, that isn’t so easy. Each year we would see more and more families coming to ‘The Farm’ as they would call it. Some came to see the alpacas and horses, some came for a stroll and to check out the horse drawn milk and bread delivery wagons, some to have family birthday parties, others to have engagement/wedding/Christmas card pictures…and so many asked if there was any way they could spend a day or two. In 2021 during a conversation with a friend I mentioned we were in the process of gutting the 1100 sq. ft. space downstairs and turning it into an Airbnb! Right away she said, ‘I don’t know why you don’t have a Hipcamp? You’ve got that great area by the new barn that Hipcampers would love’! After a little investigation I found out what a Hipcamp was…and as they say, the rest is future.

Wow, what a wonderful, first time Hipcamp experience! The world needs more good people like Karen! Karen was very quick to respond to inquiries I had prior to my arrival. She was gracious upon meeting and gave me all the info I needed to make my stay at The Farm Site such a wonderful experience. I also highly recommend you take the farm tour. Karen’s knowledge of the farm animals and the history of the farm was enlightening! All I can say is Karen and The Farm Site have set a high bar for my future Hipcamp adventures. I will be certain to return in my future travels to the area! Thank you Karen!

This farm was very well maintained. A beautiful intimate place, with just a few camping spots. Our hosts were delightful, taking time to meet with us upon arrival and even taking us on a tour of their farm. The portable toilet was the best I have ever seen. The sunset is not to be missed.

Thank you so much for having the Brant county 4-h camping club come and camp in your beautiful spaces. The kids and adults had such a wonderful time. We teach the kids to build fires 🔥. There was lots of room for us to set up games. We made spiders dogs, s’more and grilled cheese over the fire. It was so peace and quiet there. The Kids want to do it again but two nights. Kids love the farm tour that Karen took them on. Can’t wait to camp again there.

Karen is great. Prompt, clear communication amd very friendly. Easy access to site. Clean. Nicest port-a-potty I think I've ever seen. She also had good insight into local universities with programs my daughter was looking for. She made this stop on our road trip both pleasant and productive. I would gladly return.

I loved staying here, sad when my trip ended. Karen is so welcoming and kind, and the site was quiet, peaceful, and immaculately maintained. This was my first time camping solo and I was a bit nervous leading up to my trip, but all that went away once I arrived and had the chance to meet and speak with my host Karen. The place itself is very easy to find - Brant is beautiful with its long winding farm roads and views. I made fast friends with the other campers at their sites, and had a lovely time touring the farm and meeting the animals. I'll definitely be coming back for another stay as soon as I can. Trust the reviews, they're good for a reason! :)

Loved everything about this campsite , very lovely host and very family friendly! We were given a tour by Karen of the property and got to see the animals. Karen’s hospitality was 10/10 very nice scenery and lots of beautiful birds and tractors. Lots of local things to do in the area along with the camping

Karen is an absolute gem and so kind and gracious! We enjoyed our stay at the farm and all the neat things to see out there! Feeding the animals was a great experience, learning about things from Karen was as well! The site is lovely and spacious and the area is kept very clean. The washroom provided is also very clean and nice to have available! Right near Brantford ,a great place to stay in the area for the price. The opportunity to leave the city to enjoy the nature! There are many opportunities to get out and about and enjoy a good hike or even boating within a half hour or less away. And you'll never be too far from supplies if necessary.

A Magical Escape on The Farm

I recently purchased an RV and Karen’s Farm in Brantford, Ontario was my first stop! …and maybe my last It was a very simple and easy drive from my condo in Vaughan and I was greeted driving in by Karen and one of the other campers They were both so lovely and I think I told them my whole life story before even parking lol I got settled in and then Karen took me on a tour of the lands… We toured the shed which houses old milk carts that can be seen on display at museums….then we chatted for an hour over a bail of hay. Next we saw the greenhouse, double tiled silos and a John Deer We saw the most beautiful Horses I’ve ever seen (more like Stallions ) and Alpacas…and then we fed some chickens She also has a blind rooster but I didn’t meet him this time Karen helped me settle in for the night and then I watched the most magical sunset by the fire pit with two of the other guests….it was a clear night and the stars were so beautiful I already discussed with Karen staying forever…but first back to the city for a few weeks before continuing my RV journey I don’t know how anything will top this though…Karen and the Farm is a special place to visit She puts the Hip in HipCamp Feel free to follow my YouTube: EmSnow1111

Exceptional camping on a farm

Karen’s land is well maintained and easy to find. My site is flat and there is a picnic table and fire pit. The portable toilet is clean and equipped with hand washing station. Beautiful sunrise and sunset spot! The pasture is beautiful with alpacas grazing the land and Karen’s two horses are stunning! She let me feed the horses with carrots, and I fed alpacas with their pellets which they ate off my hands! The silos are a piece of art. What stood out the best for my first Hipcamp is experience is Karen’s warm and friendly nature. She gifted me her time and knowledge as she gave me a tour of the farm. I felt safe and comfortable camping on Karen’s land! Thank you so much! I look forward to returning!

This was my first time staying on Karen’s land but definitely won’t be my last. This is a perfect spot to stay if you are traveling and Karen is a fantastic host. She came and had my morning coffee with me and we ended up chatting for 2 hours. I definitely left there feeling like I had made a new friend.

Gorgeous spot. Phenomenal host (so helpful!). Spectacular sunset. Great vibe. Convenient for Niagara or Toronto. Got a tour of the farm where we feed the Horses and Alpacas.

Karen was very friendly and the camp area was great! It was nice that Karen had recommendations of things to do and where to eat in the area. We went to Niagara Falls and the drive from the camp was easy. The ad says flush toilet, it is a porta potty that flushes. Overall really nice stay, great area and beautiful farm!

We had a great time crashing on The Farm. The dragonfly marker spot was good to use, with beautiful late day light and a picnic table we could have dinner at. We had to run in the morning and couldn't do the farm tour or meet the Alpaca, so I imagine the stay would only have been even better with that experience.

I don’t even know where to start. What a magical little visit. Karen is so kind, welcoming and absolutely hilarious- she’ll keep you laughing with endless farm stories and witty sarcasm. Her love for people and deep passion for creating a fun, charming place for guests to make memories is absolutely beautiful. She oozes love, joy and a zest for life that is infectious. The campsite was gorgeous, well kept and spacious- equipped with a fire pit and picnic table. I had an amazing view of the sunset and and fields and trees that went on for miles. I truly felt absolutely blessed to stay at the farm and definitely look forward to coming back soon and making it my home away from home. Waking up to meeting the animals and learning some farm history was the cherry on top of a perfect stay! Thank you Karen and crew!

We loved the stay in the Farm. Karen is an awesome host and we had an amazing time camping there. The view of the sunset is mesmerizing and the stars at the night so beautiful no light pollution. The Farm tour and feeding the Alpacas were few highlights, we learnt a lot from Karen about the animal behaviors and the history of the farm. This is not like the other commercial camping spots and I bet anyone staying here will enjoy it. Thanks Karen for being what you are..
