It was 1984 when John found his ‘diamond in the rough’, 20 acres with an orchard on the outskirts of Brantford. O.K., so the house was nothing to write home about but perfect for building a construction yard…no neighbors except for the family across the road that used their property to build log homes. By 1987 the old house was gone, a new one was being built and a shop for working on heavy equipment had been located about 200 ft. from Dr. the back door. It wasn’t until 1996 that things changed very much. Yes, the property around the house had benefitted from a wide array of trees and shrubs that John saved from the construction/demolition jobs he had done and that still thrive today but no big projects (except for equipment purchases) were ongoing. A chance meeting with the neighbor across the road one day resulted in the following dinner conversation, ‘How was your day’ I chirped. ‘Not bad, so-and-so didn’t come in; the truck broke down and I took it for repair; I bought the property across the road, and oh, yeah I’ll need a ride after dinner to pick up the truck’ was John’s casual reply. ‘What was that’? I pressed. ‘Yes, I need a ride after dinner to pick up the truck’ he repeated with a bit more volume. Of course like anyone, I had questions, ‘Do you want peas or corn with dinner’? ‘What time do you want to go to get the truck’? ‘The property across the road’, 10 acres, still has the 4 storey barn with its twin tiled silos which was built in 1914 and the big white house with wrap around porch that once was home to a Doctor and his family. Built so the Doctor could see his patients in the front with the family living in the back was very common in the day. Things remained relatively peaceful until 2000 when after studying alpacas for more than 6 years I bought our first three. Back in 2000 alpacas and llamas were not frequently seen on farms and because they could been seen from the road they received A LOT of attention. People driving by would stop and ask about them, ask if they could take a picture or two and that was when I would hear over and over again ‘You have a beautiful place here, I wish I/we could stay’. Well, if you want to visit and stay in the city it’s doable, we call it a hotel. But visiting a farm and staying well, that isn’t so easy. Each year we would see more and more families coming to ‘The Farm’ as they would call it. Some came to see the alpacas and horses, some came for a stroll and to check out the horse drawn milk and bread delivery wagons, some to have family birthday parties, others to have engagement/wedding/Christmas card pictures…and so many asked if there was any way they could spend a day or two. In 2021 during a conversation with a friend I mentioned we were in the process of gutting the 1100 sq. ft. space downstairs and turning it into an Airbnb! Right away she said, ‘I don’t know why you don’t have a Hipcamp? You’ve got that great area by the new barn that Hipcampers would love’! After a little investigation I found out what a Hipcamp was…and as they say, the rest is future.

We only had a very short stay due to a stomach bug but it was a beautiful property and Karen was a great and attentive host! We’re looking forward to coming back for a longer stay!

This was my second time at The Farm and this time I brought my kids, 3 and 6 years old. They loved it. Perfect weather to have a warm campfire and lots of space to run around and observe the farm equipment. They were so enamoured with the construction vehicles, the animals and of course Karen’s warm, funny and welcoming nature. She gave us a wonderful tour of the farm and the highlight was being able to feed the Alpacas. Karen thank you for your hospitality, the firewood, the coffee and hot chocolates! You’re truly a lovely soul. Looking forward to our next stay with you!

Karen was an amazing host! She was great to talk with and learn from. She showed amazing rare and unique items they had on the farm plus the all the animals. I would recommend her farm any day and anytime of the year!

Karen is a perfect host. She met me when I arrived and it made for an easy set up. I was pretty tired from driving 9+ hours and was grateful I was able to settle in and have a quiet rest. Spot is great for stargazing. I liked that it was easy access to a main road and not hard on my vehicle (mine isn’t built for off road). Great tour, and super cute animals. Karen is very kind and cares about guests. Would choose to stay here again when passing through.

I really love the farm. My stay was really awesome as usual! Karen was amazing and always made sure I was taken care of and happy at her place. The sun rise and set was the most beautiful thing to look at, and all the animals in the barn have great personalities, especially the alpacas and the two big scallions!

We had a great time at Karen’s wonderful farm property. Karen is probably the best host i have experienced so far on hipcamp. She is just amazing. I would highly recommend anyone wanting to have a good farm camping experience to visit this place.

My stay at the farm went above and beyond my expectations! I chose this spot because it was my first time camping alone, and the reviews mentioned Karen being so friendly and welcoming. I arrived late at night and had no problem finding the spot in the dark. In the morning, I woke up to gorgeous thick mist rolling over fields, the cleanest portapotty I've ever used, and Karen offering to give me a belated farm tour. She's an incredible, humble, generous, caring person, and I felt lucky to be shown her world by her! This farm/animal sanctuary is truly a magical place, and I will recommend it to everyone. She also had great recommendations for when I left.

We had an amazing stay at Karen’s farm. We got to meet her alpacas and horses which was a plus. Our site was very private (Sunrise) and would highly recommend booking this spot for those looking for privacy from their camping neighbours. Karen was super helpful with everything we needed.

We had a lovely time camping at the farm. Karen is such a kind and funny soul, she was very inviting and attentive. The space is quite beautiful and scenic. Our 5 yr old enjoyed the open space and the various farm animals around. The four campsites are fairly close together so keep in mind that it is not a private campsite. I think there are two other spaces a bit more private, we were in the hummingbird maker spot. That said we made some new friends and the campsites are quite generous in terms of space. It is also close to the main road so a bit of traffic noise at night but nothing crazy. Porta potty was very clean with running water. Keep in mind there is no waste disposal like mentioned in the listing so you have to take your waste with you. Highly recommend and very family friendly.

Both Karen and her property were absolutely delightful! This region of Ontario is beautiful with rolling hills and lots of views, and the camp site was flat and grassy with a tree lined side offering shade from the warm sun. It's close enough to the toilet so it's not onerous to get to, and close to the road to allow for easy walks and exploration. Karen is a fantastic human and a wonderful host. I highly recommend you visit The Farm!

The farm was the best Hipcamp experience we have had yet! Our campsite overlooked a field and we had great privacy. Karen is the KINDEST person. Seriously. You will never meet a kinder person. She went above and beyond to accommodate our needs, and she did so with a smile on her face. Karen took us on a tour of the farm which was very fun and interesting. Lots of animals! Feeding the Alpaca was a highlight. It’s very clear that Karen is passionate about hospitality. We will be back!

We stayed at Karen’s farm for two nights and had an amazing experience. There are horses, alpacas and many birds you can meet. Karen is very sweet, she gave us a tour of the property and we got to hear many amazing stories. She gave a bag of natural treats to my dog which she loved! The location itself is very beautiful and has nice views of corn and bean fields. Would definitely visit again and highly recommended if you’re looking for a nice camping spot with a great experience!

We had three amazing nights of camping at Karen's farm. The reviews are all true, Karen is so warm, funny, and entertaining. You can't miss her farm tour! She was also very knowledgeable on all the region has to offer. The farm is clean, beautiful, and quiet. We loved the Alpacas and horses. I will be returning with my kids soon!

I loved tent camping on Karen’s farm. The views were beautiful and directions were clear. I enjoyed feeding the alpacas and petting the 2 large draft horses. I would definitely come visit again.

Overall, I had a great experience camping the Farm, except for a couple of issues. First, the Hipcamp address/directions lead me to the wrong address. It actually lead me to the wrong city (Brantford). Luckily the correct location was only 20 minutes away (Paris). Secondly, the sites were not marked well so I ended up setting up camp at the wrong site. Which was unfortunate, because of the 4 sites, one definitely has a better view (beautiful corn fields). I ended up camping directly across from some heavy machinery and what looked like a scrap metal yard. Not as nice in comparison. Having said all that, Karen was a great host. And I really enjoyed meeting the animals and seeing everything they had done to the property to make it so beautiful. It was a peaceful stay, except for the tractor noise and beeping which seemed to continue for several hours each day. I understand this is a working farm... and I loved almost everything about my stay there. Just a few minor annoyances which were more than made up for with the warm hospitality and beauty of the surrounding land.

Our boys, 2 year old and a 10 month old, enjoyed their first camping trip at The Farm! We received a warm welcome by Karen who showed off her family’s beautiful and well kept farm. During the tour, we learned about the farm’s history and got to interact with the animals. The sunset and the sunrise were the cherry on top! The Farm was such a clean and peaceful farm. If you get a chance, ask Karen if you could meet her husband, John. He’s a LEGEND! I wish we got to chat with him more because he’s one of a kind! We can’t wait to be back!

Loved tent camping on Karen’s farm! We were told ahead of time what colour our camp site was marked with and there was a portapotty a short walk from the site. She was a great host and took the time to give us a tour of the animals and the kids got to feed the alpacas. She was very knowledgeable about her family farms history and animals.

Our First Camping Trip at The Farm

We wanted to take a short break from our daily city routine just a day to detach, unwind, and relax. Since we’re beginners at camping, we chose The Farm as the starting point for our camping adventures. The site itself was peaceful and beautifully maintained. Setting up our tent was easy as the ground was clean and grassy. We especially loved our host, Karen, who made our stay cozy by familiarizing us with the surroundings and giving us a personalized tour of the property. A highlight of the trip was meeting the friendly farm animals , such a charming touch to the experience. If you’re new to camping and want to test the waters while enjoying a mellow, slow paced environment, I highly recommend The Farm.

First Hipcamp stay!

Our first Hipcamp experience was spent at The Farm for a quick one night stay to unplug and get some more use out of our rooftop tent. My husband and I, along with our golden retriever, had a great time! In line with many of the other reviews, Karen’s tour of the property and meet and greet with the animals was nothing short of magical. We were able to feed Alpacas! And I can’t stop thinking about the beautiful draft horses. When we booked just a day before our stay, we were the only reservation, but by that evening all four of the sites had campers. Although sites are close together, we didn’t have any issues with noise. Porta potty was nearby. Some street noise but not too bad. Karen was very quick with communication and such a lovely host. Thanks again for the great stay, Karen!

As many other guests have said, Karen is the reason this a top tier camp site. She is so warm and friendly, you instantly feel like you’ve known her forever. I left there feeling like I’d made a new friend. It was my little one’s first time camping and Karen sat and chatted with me and kept an eye on her while I set up. Just knowing I had a second set of eyes made the whole setup much more relaxing and enjoyable. The tour is not to be missed! The animals are so gentle and sweet and the history of everything is incredibly interesting.
