Loons calling

Walking through the forest heading to the campsite, a beautiful view by the lake, loons calling, peaceful and quiet at night. The lake is weedy still went swimming, hubby enjoyed fishing. The lady who met us was so nice she showed me the way to our campsite and brought firewood, we missed the complimentary canoe hopefully next year we will have one, aside from that no complain. Definitely we be back.

Great spot! Privacy for the most part (few fisherman come in close through the day) and beauty scenery even on a long weekend! It helped the weather was perfect. Not the most ideal swimming spot but we managed. Careful of zebra mussels, maybe bring the funny looking water shoes. Platform and picnic table are a nice touch and make a big difference. 5 out of 5 stars!

Fantastic experience. Great value for the money. We usually do crown land camping, but since it was the long weekend we didn't want to risk going somewhere and finding our spot already taken. I've had my eye on the Sparrow Lake sites for a while, but they're usually booked. The stars aligned and we managed to book last minute for the Duck Bay paddle in site. It was a very easy check in experience, easy to find the canoes (many available, choose any of them, and a great bonus not having to bring our own), a short easy paddle to the site, and despite it being a bigger lake with cottages and boats our campsite still felt private enough to enjoy. Loved having the platform -- kinda necessary as the site is on a pretty good slope. Stars were amazing at night. We'll be back for sure.

This was our favourite site of the two we tried out at Brendan’s. This site had a larger platform (larger gaps too for tent deck anchors) so we had an easier time setting up our tent and had access to picnic table. This site also has a well groomed trail back to the bathroom/showers. Brendan and the other camp staff we interacted with were all friendly and welcoming. Great site for someone who wants a back country site feel with access to amenities.

Great paddle in site

Lovely paddle in site on a quieter section of the lake. There was also a footpath (would not recommend carrying items in this way) that we used to access the bathrooms/showers. Brendan and the other staff at the camp base were all lovely and super friendly. The platform at this site (size and gaps between planks) was a bit trickier to setup on so we used a combination of pegs/ rocks to tie down.

As always this is a fantastic spot to camp and fish. The canoes and easy access are a huge plus as is being able to boat across the lake for ice cream. Highly recommended! This is my third year camping and I will be back again!

Stayed at Cranberry. Fantastic site, private enough to feel remote but close enough to watch all the lake activity. Nice swim spot too. GUESTS — please pack out your garbage and stop burning it or tossing it in the box privy. Leave the campsite clean and enjoyable for the next guests. Other than that, the proprietors themselves were communicative and friendly. Great bonus to have a canoe during the length of my stay. Would come again!

We stayed at this site last weekend and overall had a great time, but it’s definitely best suited for more experienced camper/paddlers. The location is absolutely beautiful and extremely private. There was an event going on at the main camp but we couldn’t hear anything from our site. Check-in was casual, we were asked if we knew our site and then told to head left to the canoe beach, grab a canoe and park wherever. In hindsight, we definitely should have asked more questions, as there were no directions given past that point. I ended up using my phone to navigate and we eventually found our way to Duck Bay. It was about a 20 minute paddle one way and a bit of a guessing game at first, but doable. The site has a red Hipcamp logo on a tree. The site itself is very spacious, with a long wooden bench we used as a makeshift table, and a wooden platform for a tent. (Ours was too long so we set up elsewhere). There was lots of firewood provided ready at the site. The pit toilet was a bit difficult to access, likely due to fallen branches from the ice storm. There was no clear path to it. There was loud music coming from a cottage across the lake both evenings, which took away from the otherwise peaceful setting. Nothing you can do about that though. Overall, it’s a great spot if you’re looking for a unique spot with lots of privacy. Just make sure to ask questions when you arrive, and only book if you have some portaging and paddling experience.

Second time at the Cranberry lakeside site. We absolutely love it here to kick off summer. We appreciate being able to use the canoes instead of the hike with all of our things. Gorgeous views, and a huge camp site to spread out in. We always see wildlife, over 40 types of birds to listen to. Thank you for delivering firewood to us. See you next year!

What an awesome camping spot! Just a short canoe ride in and had a very peaceful spot on the water. Great fishing, caught a huge large mouth bass on my first cast! Beautiful views, saw the stars at night and heard loons calling. I will definitely be back but I will book early next summer as it books up fast all the way into September. Thanks for everything Brendan!

Camping with the Teens

We loved the privacy and being right on the lake. Many hands make for light work when moving your gear from your vehicle to the site, a short hike down a nice trail. If you have mobility issues this site might be challenging but it’s beautiful and we had a great time. Brendan was kind and friendly. We fished right off the rocks with much success. Would recommend this site for sure.

Paddle in duck Bay

From beginning to end our stay (camp) was easy and beautiful. We booked and stayed in the middle of September. Loading up the canoe with our gear and the free canoe and firewood was a wonderful treat! We got to see the lake as we paddled to our spot. The site was a great size with lovely views. Can’t wait to stay again!

The best camping I had in cranberry site. The weather was perfect, we went for swimming, volleyball and canoeing. They provide the canoe also I saw many balls to play around and life jacket to use. The location is very beautiful and easy to get there. Public washroom was clean, and there is shower room as well. Sandy beaches, rocky hill and clean lake.

Baby’s first backcountry

We loved our time here. There was a slight miscommunication and our booking overlapped with an event, but the staff were extremely kind and accommodated us anyway. This is a perfect experience for anyone testing out backcountry camping. You can practice hiking in your gear, using a thunderbox, and cooking over a fire, while still having access to a hot shower and real bathroom 10 minutes away. It’s not actually remote enough to see stars, and you can definitely hear trains and traffic at night, but it’s great if you want to train up for Algonquin! We saw lots of loons, herons, and chipmunks. The actual camping spot is about a 5 minute hike in from the beach. The fire pit is on an exposed rock, so it can get chilly at night. There are several flat areas to pitch tents, and more if you have small tents. We managed one 4-man tent, two 2-man tents, and 1 single tent. There was space for one more 4-man tent if needed. The canoes are heavy and somewhat tippy, so I don’t recommend taking them far from the shoreline - the lake can get very windy and choppy, and it can be challenging to row back to shore if you don’t have good rowing technique. I would highly recommend this spot for anyone considering backcountry camping but unsure about the logistics of prepping for backcountry.
