Creature comforts
Enjoy the comforts of home—including flush toilets, showers, and a kitchen.
We are a small working farm that invites the public to learn more about working the land, living self-sustainably, and protecting nature. We grow a variety of vegetables, fruits, and herbs, while also raising laying hens, meat chickens, and goats for milk and meat, alongside our honey bees. We offer a self-contained, two-bedroom apartment originally built for our extended family, which is now also available to visitors who wish to experience and learn about life on a homestead property.Headwaters Farm is home to the Armstrong family, an 80-acre homestead and agri-tourism operation in the lovely rolling hills of Northumberland County, Ontario Canada. We raise goats, meat chickens, egg-layers and bees, run a cooperative vegetable, herb and flower garden and orchard and provide lots of feet-on-farm opportunities for the public. Much of our property is wild, with plenty of field, forest and wetland to explore. Inside our straw-bale main house, we use our commercial kitchen for weekly baking of our famous Montreal-style bagels as well as for canning and preserving, cooking demonstrations and communal dinners. Our Farm Apartment is above our garage with a wonderful view of our chicken coop, vegetable gardens and Lake Ontario in the distance. This new two-bedroom accommodation was built for our expanding family and visiting friends and we welcome you as one of them. You can wander the farm, pick fresh vegetables, hike the property and take part in our Hands-On Experiences including farm tours to learn about the care of our livestock and our permaculture growing practices; a morning in our kitchen making bagels; or working in our garden with our garden group. In addition to booking a tour, you are also welcome to purchase farm products to fill your fridge like bagels, vegetables, eggs and honey. Once we receive your request to book, the owner will be in touch to send you more details about your options and answer any questions you might have.
