Freija is a private 100-acre bird, wildlife and stargazing sanctuary in Kinghust Forest, Grey County, Ontario, Canada. Founded in 2016, Freija is locally-owned and operated by a Canadian adventure company specializing in personalized retreats and unique experiences with emphasis on science education and nature conservation. Endless trails on varying terrain in an old-growth Ontario forest offer plentiful opportunities for birdwatching, camping, canoeing on the ponds, exploring the old-growth maple and cedar forest or hosting special events. Designated as an Area of Natural and Scientific Interest (ANSI), Kinghurst Forest is a special place that offers a rare glimpse into Ontario’s natural past.Enjoy this private 100-acre bird, wildlife, and stargazing sanctuary bordering a 350-acre conservation area. Endless maintained trails on varying terrain both on property and adjacent forest. The meadow is open to the sky, located in the middle of a cedar forest. Bring your friends and spend time birdwatching, playing music, making art, taking photos, canoeing on the pond. Enjoy Canadian and Ontario nature in its purest, most magical form. Explore some of the most breathtaking old-growth hardwood and cedar forest in Ontario. Red pine, cedar, jack pine, untouched Canadian wilderness and stunning fall foliage. Deer, porcupine, foxes, blue jays, cardinals, chipmunks, hummingbirds, heron. Your spot is located in the middle of a forest meadow, surrounded by dense cedars. Features a picnic table, a small portable propane BBQ, tarp for your tents, fire ring and a comfortable outdoor composting toilet. We encourage you to bring own tents, sleeping bags and camping gear, however, tents and an array of all-seasonal camping equipment, as well as snowshoes for a large group can be rented if needed at an additional rate. Two clear ponds are a 1-minute walk away from the campsite and are great for swimming during the summer months. Access to the ponds is shared with other campers. A couple or a group of good friends can stay comfortably here with an ample supply of fresh well water and hardwood firewood harvested on the property and provided by the hosts.
