Tucked into the forest at Everdale's regenerative farm, this off-grid straw bale cabin is a one-of-a-kind retreat for nature lovers, climate-conscious travellers, and anyone craving stillness and space. Drive right up to your private hideaway beneath the trees. Inside: a queen bed, cozy living area, and warm, earthen walls. Step out to a covered, open-air kitchenette — the perfect place to sip coffee, cook dinner, or watch the forest move around you. The entire cabin is yours, along with access to the surrounding forest and meadows of Everdale Farm. Outside your door: a private fire pit, picnic table, and a clean, private outhouse just 20 seconds away. Explore trails, visit the chickens and sheep, or spend your day resting under the trees. Built in 2002, this is one of Ontario’s first straw bale buildings — handcrafted with care from natural, breathable materials. Its rounded corners and deep window sills feel like something from the desert Southwest — right here in Southern Ontario. Warm in winter, cool in summer, and powered by solar energy for lights and device charging. Everdale is an award-winning organic farm and education centre, committed to climate-positive, regenerative practices. Your stay supports ecological farming, food education, and land stewardship. Trails connect all the wonders of the property - glorious sunsets, forest walks, wide open fields, nature exploration, foraging, wildlife sightings, and a creek that runs year-round in the upland forest at the back of the property.  Our region boasts amazing cycling for road bikes, the nearby Elora-Cataract trail, quaint shops in the Village of Erin, excellent hiking, local craft breweries, cideries, and more.  No plumbing - water for kitchen and washing is supplied by jugs (potable water) and a rain barrel for washing dishes (in warmer months).

Forest Cabin
The forest cabin was everything I’d hope for and more. I wanted a place to get away and reconnect with nature and that’s exactly what I got out of my stay. I went for hikes through the property, got to play with the sheep and the dogs! And like others have said in their reviews, by far the best outhouse I’ve ever soon! I would 100% recommend staying here! I’ll be back to check it out in the spring or summer!

My precious stay at strawbale cabin
Forest Cabin
Everdale is a special place! The straw cabin is simple, comfortable and so quiet! I felt safe as a person going there solo and walked their well loved and cared for land extensively. It was an education as well in that they have a regenerative farm. Being a long time gardener myself, it was interesting to read the sign posts on my walk explaining different aspects of regenerative farming and the lands ecology. I'll definitely come back and in the colder months, be sure you're comfortable keeping the woodstove going, you may need to split wood, etc. Also, being solar powered, if it's a cloudy day, the lights may go off early. I was glad I brought a battery operated lamp. Great place, great feeling there.!

We enjoyed our stay so much we'll definitely be returning. Good amount of wood supplied and easy to grab another bag. The outdoor kitchen was so well stocked and clean. The outhouse as well. I could go on and on, but I don't want you booking one of our future stays there.

Staying at the forest cabin on Everdale farm is such a calm and peaceful experience. Walking the trails, watching birds, spending time with the sheep is wonderful.

Fabulous peace
Forest Cabin
What a wonderfully relaxing couple of days we had at the cabin! It was so well appointed that there wasn’t a single thing we lacked. Everything was prepared for our arrival. Bed was comfy and cozy. The peace was Devine. We snowshoed through the woods and felt like the only people in the world. Came home happy and rejuvenated. You couldn’t ask for better hosts. We will be back.

Everdale’s forest cabin is a delight. I loved being tucked away at the edge of the woods. The cabin is lovely, very comfortable, and the wood stove is very powerful. The outdoor kitchen is extraordinary and has everything you might need. Gavin and family were wonderful hosts. I hope to visit again soon.

A beautiful quiet and peaceful place. It felt like we were all alone, yet knew where and how to get in touch with them. Upon arrival we entered the cabin to find a lovely fire going in the wood stove. There was also a carton of farm fresh eggs left for us to enjoy. It was so inviting....we truly felt welcomed. We loved our weekend at Everdale. Gavin was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The strawbale cabin was rustic, yet cozy and comfortable. The bed was amazing! The outdoor kitchen is well supplied and having the rainbarrel washing up station was so helpful and convenient. Bonus for us was that, despite the very hot weather, the cabin itself stayed nicely cool. The composting toilet outhouse was indeed one of the cleanest we've ever encountered. No smells at all! The surrounding fields and forest provided lots of privacy and places to walk and explore with our two dogs. Gorgeous setting, and wonderful stay overall. Thank you!

We had an absolutely fantastic experience staying at Forest Cabin at Everdale farm. The cabin was beautifully organized, exceptionally clean, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Gavin was an outstanding host who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. They provided clear instructions for check-in and were readily available to answer any questions we had throughout our stay. Their hospitality and attention to detail truly made our trip memorable. I highly recommend this to anyone who wish to have some peaceful time with their loved ones. There was complete privacy maintained throughout our stay. Whether you're here for a short getaway or an extended stay, you won't be disappointed. We can't wait to come back!

Lots of privacy. Great place. Lovely views. Great walking space. Gavin and Della where great hosts. They were very responsive. Everything was clean and well thought. Will definitely go back. Highly recommend to visit the shop and the livestock.

Forest cabin realness! NAILED IT!
Forest Cabin
This property is absolutely stunning! The photos do not do it justice. We stayed at the beginning of March and while the weather was quite mild, the wood stove was required to keep us nice and toasty. All firewood, drinking water, cooking utensils, camp stove, bedding all provided, which made our load to pack extremely light. The cabin itself is absolutely amazing with so much charm and character. The outhouse is next level in cleanliness. I was floored! Absolutely smell free! Gavin was highly responsive to our messages (albeit we didn’t have many!) This cabin was completely private and secluded from the main house, which is at top of property. This was one of my favourite glamping trips so far. If you want a cabin off grid with all the bells and whistles, this is your private getaway! Thank you Everdale Forest Cabin! Absolutely fanfreakentatic! We will be back!

Very quiet and peaceful spot

The Strawbale cabin was awesome! The property was idyllic, quiet and beautiful. It felt very private, as we were the only people there, and this was one of my favourite things about our weekend. The cabin is tucked into a quiet corner of the property away next to a forest. The structure itself was clean, cool during the heat of the day, and held in the heat at night. It is very thoughtfully furnished; it was homey, clean, with nice furniture and a bed. Felt much more glamp-y than most cabins I have stayed in. The outdoor kitchen was very convenient for meals. The outhouse was very clean with no odour. This place also includes firewood and water in the price, so overall, we found this to be an excellent value. It was only a 5 minute drive to the nearest grocery store/LCBO, if you need to get ice, supplies or boozes. The hosts were so kind and gracious and Gavin patched me up after an unfortunate incident with a shifty vegetable peeler. The cabin is on the property of a not for profit farm that is doing some very important work. Everything about the cabin was very thoughtfully put together for a great experience. If you do decide to stay, do not miss out on the farm fresh veggies and sausages. My partner and I would love to come back, and I would highly recommend it without hesitation.

Gavin was a great host for us at the strawbale cabin— the property was beautiful and evidently the place of some really meaningful ecological work. The cabin was cozy and warm even in the cold of December, with its wood stove. We really enjoyed bundling up and cooking in the outdoor kitchen, complete with a roof for when it rained. It was so lovely to wake up to the trees in the forest and the sounds of squirrels and birds.

Perfect Peaceful Weekend

Had an amazing stay at The Straw Bale cabin. The property is beautiful, private and quiet. Loved cooking in outdoor kitchen. If the Harvest box is an option- take it! Nothing like eating farm fresh potatoes, carrots, onions and eggs. No electricity not issue as heat was provided by wood stove and solar lights. Nicest “outhouse” I’ve ever used! :)
